Hello Emma, The problem I believe you're having with your blueberry plant is the soil. Blueberries need acidic soil to thrive, and I don't think the soil in your raised bed is sufficiently acidic. For best results, grow the blueberry plant in a medium-sized planter or pot, using ericaceous compost. I've grown them in pots from 30+cm diameter, and about 30+cm deep. A second or even third blueberry plant, will also help, doesn't matter which type, but if you can get a different variety, that would be great. I recommend 'Herbert', 'Chandler', 'Patriot' 'Top Hat', or 'Bluecrop'. Having another plant nearby will substantially increase yield. Hope this helps.

I love watching you, I’ve always been a plant it and see if it grows since my grandma told me when I was little that you like a plant put it in soil and water it and it will grow and generally they do until I get too fussy and then they die . I’m nearly 65 and I just enjoy my garden as it is in the moment.

Strulch smells gorgeous. I love your enthusiasm, and you use Wilko seeds. Fabulous shop. I thought that seed grown Rudbeckia wouldn't flower in the first year so I have not planted any. I saved lots of seeds from the garden last year. Hoping to grow echinacea from seed but it hasn't sprouted yet. I am work and your videos have made me smile. I love gardening so much and like you I cannot wait for the warm weather. I now have a plastic greenhouse in my lounge, full of cosmos seedlings. Also trying to grow helenium. X

Hi Emma ..I was checking.my gooseberry and blueberry bush and it made me think of yours ...to check if your blueberry bush has survived the winter ..with your thumb nail gently scrape away at the bottom of the stem ..it's should reveal a nice green stem .it's that's the case treat it to a top dressing of eracatous compost or an eracatous feed ...you never fail to put a smile on my face ...

For your spider issues, perhaps you could try making and spraying some peppermint oil spray in your shed, apparently it can repel spiders and bonus is that it will make it smell lovely too :) Put some peppermint essential oil in a spray bottle, top up with water and a small amount of dish soap and spray all around your shed to create a repellent barrier that some spiders will steer clear of.

Made me smile as always. About your Blueberry Bush... I got one this week and they like acidic (ericaceous) soil. You can buy it from garden centres as usual. I planted mine in a large planter so I can be sure it gets exactly what it needs. Fingers crossed!
@astraaj435
@astraaj435 Год назад
The two mistakes that I did last year with my carrots: 1) didn't do thinly enough and then felt bad and indecisive to thin them out properly so there were places where they were too close together and having no proper space for each they didn't grow large enough, 2) I had some manure popped here and there and that's what carrots don't like and start "fork" - they grow split way and also not perfect in size (the manure can be done in autumn before but not in their time there in the bed). Other than that I've got amazing harvest of carrots last year - I never got before anything like that. Just like your parsnips last year :)

As for your new Tulips they may be a later flowering variety, also your original tulips have obviously been in the ground longer and are well established. You new tulips are doing OK and will take longer to establish but will soon be as tall as the others. Carrots and turnips are best grown in loose, well-drained soil that has a good mixture of soil and sand, preferably void of stones, rocks or clumps of soil, which can cause them to grow crooked or branch.

You need an acid soil for Blueberries they won’t get on very well in ordinary soil add ericaceous compost for them to flourish in either dug in at planting or grow in big pots with this compost. I enjoy watching you videos ,make me laugh wish someone on the allotment would come and give you some advice ,you may be lucky but still to early for carrots and parsnips yet .You are fortunate with your polly tunnel as this winter so far has been very quiet not a lot of wind ,shut the side flaps to stop wind getting in as in a strong gale it will be gone if wind gets inside.

Hi Emma, can I ask if you have ever tried ''Carrot Tops'' in your salad's, yes the Green feathery bit... I cut the top of my Carrots from the garden and add them to my compost, but in the kitchen, when I trim a carrot for eating or cooking, the slice off the top I put in a shallow tray of water, then when it's grown to about 100mm, I cut it off, chop it like parsley, and sprinkle it on salad's, add it to Tuna mayo. . .etc etc, try it you might be surprised.🤔🤔

@astraaj435
@astraaj435 Год назад
Radish is two-years plant. In first they grow roots and you can pick them up and eat. In second year they are going to grow flowers and seeds. If you accidentally picked them and ate - nothing bad will happen to you though it tastes woody and nasty. But you can leave few of them there and grow your own seeds (they do little pods like tiny beans).
