I'm using Google Earth to draw a new plot map because so much has changed in the last year. I am also taking the advice (a bit late) from a champion celeriac grower and sowing my Celery and Celeriac seed earlier than i was planning!
Next Saturday I will be sowing tomatoes!! And doing another, little Q+A so drop me your questions in the comments!
If you like the look of the arches i have this video all about why i'm using them -

We woke up this morning with about 25 to 30 cm. of snow on the ground, this is our third heavy snowfall. That is a lot of shoveling. Our raised beds have thick covering of snow on them. We are looking forward for our seed orders to arrive. We hope to get above 0 'C by next week by Feb. 22 today it is minus 6 with a windchill of minus 12. Very good news you passing 6,000 subscribers l believe you will surpass 10,00 by the end of March.

Thanks for another great vlog. Great to see the plot map. Things do change and you have done a lot this last year so good to update. Our broad beans also looked shocking after this cold weather but they do seem too have bounced back so that is a relief. Must get planting some seeds. Have a great week - cheers!

G&T is good enough for Valentines!😅😅😅 you've got g8 ICT skills ..I still use pencil.. Likewise I'm doing a revamp of plot.. no leeks..full of leekmoth too much like hard work and have fallen out of love with beets.. a few small ones in summer maybe. Like you though I 'm going to put more flowers in for the sheer joy of them and loads of onions and 9 varieties of unusual toms..so excited about Paul Robeson. Am considering a pond but it might have to be a bathtubb type jobbie I can squeeze next to artichokes. Amazing and astounding oriental mustards ..shungiku I think..were all flourishing when I went yesterday not frosted! .think it's the deep manure I put on each yr....and here Lewisham/Bromley it was SO COLD on Sat too. Pigeons decimated last of swedes and b beans have stems that turned grey/black. Reorganising means really assessing just how many cabbages do I need? Still have fr beans 2020 in freezer!! Supa mama toms were g8 for canning tho & hilariously booby..made me laugh but doesn't take much in sarf East Lundun. . Good 4 you building viewers.. really enjoying it & I adore Lily.

Funny about the celery seeds Steve from Greenside Up was doing his today and he said water with very warm (almost boiling) water as he used to have issues with them but no problem any longer. Google Earth is so useful. I used it as an outline for our garden a few weeks ago. We aren't in an area with the high res 3d but even the lower res was a handy starting point. I like the downloadable Google Earth Pro version the most for that purpose.

Yes Looking at your wildlife pond I am just about to change over a fish pond to wildlife pond (NO fish) and yours has given me inspiration to get on with it, it's gonna be a lot of work but hay, I sowed my toms on the 14th but then I've only got 4 different ones, two of which are my own toms ( I pollinated my toms some years ago). Thanks for yet another great video Jess and Mum, have fun out there.

I love watching your vlogs every Tuesday, it teaches me new stuff about gardening. Q&A question "Have you ever tried Atlantic Giant Pumpkins or any pumpkins if so do you have any advice for growing them"?
@duncanrobinson3200
@duncanrobinson3200 3 года назад
I have grown pumpkins on my allotment. The main thing is that they like a very rich soil with plenty of rotted horse manure mixed in with it or if you can't get that home made compost or a few poultry manure pellets. Sow them in mid to late April in small 3 inch pots - one seed per pot and germinate in a cold greenhouse or on a sunny windowsill - they shouldn't need a heated propagator. You will probably have to pot them on to a slightly larger pot as they grow at a fast pace - it is usually ok to plant them out in most areas of the UK once frosty nights have passed - which is around the last week in May to early June for most people. You can always put fleece or a cloche over them for a week or two if you think a cold night is coming. Try feeding with liquid comfrey once the fruits form. Hand pollinate if the weather is wet at pollination time when the flowers are open. They are ready when they sound hollow to tap and have coloured up - cut of with a good few inches of stem to prevent rot getting into the pumpkin in storage - around late September to early October is about the right time usually to harvest them and leave them to 'cure' in a greenhouse for a week.

One for your Q&A: how did you get comfortable inviting this hoard of internet rando's (like me!) that you’ve amassed into your home? It’s not something I can imagine me doing, so I’m fascinated to know how GardeningTubers like you, and your Mum!, decided you wanted to put yourselves out there. I always used to sow tomatoes in mid feb,but I have found it's better to wait until March,germination is quicker and better,they dont have to be held back until warmer conditions arrive,,they can then be planted out in late april without any check,caused by delay

Hello Jess! Just a thought,perhaps you could draw up a plot map,so as people can follow I know that Colette of Bealtaine Cottage had a whimsical one, done up by a local artist, you are able also to colour in. I do know she sells her maps.Like I said just a thought? Love the idea of more flowers everywhere. Wondering if I could grow the Toe Flax over here? Ontario Canada must find out it’s lovely. @duncanrobinson3200
@duncanrobinson3200 3 года назад
I might have a go at celery this year - I have tried it in the past, but had issues with it drying out and then running to seed with a centre stalk forming before the plants have matured and bulked out - I might try siting them somewhere with a little bit of shade in the summer - you really have to be careful in a dry, hot spell with celery and keep the watering up. One question is - do you get problems with the birds eating your mulberries? Do you net the tree or just sacrifice some to the birds? I just wondered in case I decide to get a mulberry tree.
