My son planted 3 lbs of garlic one year in our lasagna bed. Every single clove he planted bulbed and several of them twinned on us. We gave away tons of garlic and had garlic for a year. Wowza!
I've always loved Muesic garlic, it is my absolute favorite here in Vermont! Wow, 5 lbs of garlic, that's a ton....I usually pick out the best garlic from the last year, and it has acclimated to our soil over the years.🌻
I just tried making the corn cob syrup. Used 12 cobs 1lb sugar with some molasses. It came out very thick so I may have overcooked it. Still it is really yummy grand kids love it. Thank you
@@1870s one of our local homesteading friends gave us some to tryout a few years and we just keep replanting the bigger cloves and eat or give away the smaller ones. I don't know the type but I do know it is a hardneck variety.
I like growing elephant garlic . I mean if your going to wait 9 10 months for it to be ready for harvest misaswell go big! It's great garlic always huge huge bulbs 💡
I’m in hot Texas, but am going to try garlic for the first time this year. I’m going to plant in November late and hopefully will have a harvest next year! 👏🏻💕👏🏻
I'm excited about growing GARLIC for the first time! I planted in September and we have at least one sprout. Lol. Zone 8a/8b Georgia. Happy fall gardening🍂🍁🍠🌽🍅🍆❤ I'm looking forward to seeing how well your GARLIC varieties produce.
Hey Rachel !!! Glad to see you smiling and happy in the garden :) Last year.. i planted garlic... WITHOUT READING up on it.. and went and peeled all the paper skins off. LOL Well... i did get garlic but ide say about 1/3 of them rotted and i think that was because of the paper being off. Maybe that protects them somewhat. Then the quirky weather we had. My garlic is going in tomorrow morning. So excited. Finally cleaning the plants out... LOL i have two pepper plants im trying to Over winter in the house. They are doing pretty good so far. They kinda lost some leaves but still have plenty. I guess that is normal, we shall see. I have several differnt kinds of garlic going in also> I need to make some markers i think so i know what is what.. LOL I got i think five different types of Luke over at MIgardener and then some from Spain from a local farmer that i buy from also. Excited for a better harvest next year. I also have a compost thing.. its a bit ole tree pot from landscapers. Its not huge.. but it is cool to watch the stuff break down. :) Funny though ... tomatoes started growing in it.. lol I told them to go back to bed till spring but they didnt listen LOL. Silly tomato plants. Excited to watch for your harvest next summer !!! :) God bless ya's !!!
@@1870s Absolutely ,I was just checking them out and think I will be ordering this ,after I read about it really would be a big help in my garden . Love the flip flops ,it's funny how when we are on a mission heading for garden we just go flip flops and all !
the flip flops made me laugh. i am a southern california gardener that wears flip flops. but i am starting to wear more protective footwear when using heavy tools. I don’t want any boo boos!,
Awesome! I just bought my garlic this morning. I remember last year all the good seed garlic was sold out and I had to resort to using supermarket garlic. I didn't really get a good yield or good bulbs. What I grew was yummy though. So now, I'm happy to be able to buy some heirloom garlic and some perennial shallots. My Ruth Stout garden was awesome this year! Everything I put in those beds grew beautifully. I expect for my garden to do even better next season. :)
I need to get my garlic planted very soon. It’s getting mighty cool up here in NH. I’m putting all mine in containers so it won’t be too hard. Moving this weekend but hope to have a few minutes of time 🤞🏼.
I've been trying to grow garlic for a long time but it dies. This year I'm doing it differently. I live in the Caribbeans. This year I will plant then in January but in the meantime it's in the frig so it be ready. Great video.
Good Garlic Information. Sandals aren't good to use garden tools with and I prefer to use Gloves when putting down Homemade Animal Poop Compost. But only my opinions.
I put 200 bulbs out last fall and every darn one of them took root and came up. I give a lot away because that's obviously more than my wife wants or can use. Do you use the scape for cooking? I know some people do.
Sweet potatoes mature in 90 to 170 days and they're extremely frost sensitive. So make sure you plant early enough, so they don't get nipped by the cold.
Here is a video series I did on it last year when I was just experimenting with it. I go over the concepts. ru-vid.com/group/PLoi3On3ZiLmGQmqOSlZeI6PXqBYgit6GL
Hey, Rachel, you look really nice in this outfit, love the sweater on you! I really wanted to do garlic this year, but I don’t know if I’ll get to it, I’m so swamped with canning/drying still. I just picked probably the last of the tomatoes, peppers and tomatillos today. It’s supposed to get down to 21* tonight, brrr! I’ve had them covered for at least a week. What to do with a whole box of tomatillos?
I've only make salsa with them, but last year I had so many and found out you can basically use them as a substitute for rhubarb in alot of recipes. I'll see if I can find an example for you.
here is a couple examples to give you some thoughts on what you can do with all the extra: www.allrecipes.com/recipe/233152/lisas-tomatillo-and-strawberry-pie/ boxwoodavenue.com/blog/blackberry-tomatillo-preserves
Rachael, I'm disabled, my husband built me raised beds, 3 1/2 ft tall. Could I plant garlic in them? I know I can get enough mulch on top just worried about all the air flow under the bed.
