Update - I seem to have added an unnecessary step here. You can actually bounce your selected samples straight to a pad instead of a making new pattern first: 1. Hit COPY 2. Select a pattern 3. Use REMAIN to select the samples you want to bounce 4. Hit REMAIN to confirm 5. Hit PATTERN SELECT so your screen says 'sample' 6. Choose a pad to bounce to 7. Hit COPY to confirm
So you mentioned the gap at the beginning of each stem in one of your earlier videos. I noticed that those gaps are not identical?! I switched to longer stems to be able to avoid lack of sync and I started to add a fully quantized, powerful sound on step one only.
Before you start this process you should use the LATENCY FIX setting by holding in the value knob and pressing SUB PAD. That helps with the timing of the stems once exported.
@@IsshmanGarcia does it just fix the Start and End points on the sample? I found I had to truncate each sample? I dunno, my brain hurts from lack of green

If only the bounce to sample feature also bounced in the effects too. That would make it perfect. Still so stoked about the update though! Finally got a release for the gated pads.
its not as quick, but we can always go to mute mode, solo the pad and record the pattern audio into the daw. it should record the pad soloed with the recorded effects too.... if im right. havent tested yet
would be sweet if you could select samples to bounce down from the original pattern, automatically skipping the need to duplicate into multiple patterns.
Well done! I think I’m gonna save my tracks to the SD card. Then plug the SD into my computer. This will ensure I don’t have to look for a folder each time. Great video!
Still no option for naming samples though. Would have been cool if they set up some alpha numeric typing option like they do with MPC. Still game changing workflows in v3.0!!!
Thanks for the video. Is it me only thinking it would be very convenient to be able to bounce stems from chains as well ? Bouncing from pads/patterns is already very useful of course.
Nonjuror mentioned in his video that when he's been doing this, it inserts a small silence before each sample/stem. So they need trimming otherwise they won't loop perfectly. Did you experience this?
This makes the feature semi-useless, at least if the goal is to mix the beat somewhere else. It's already cumbersome enough having to manually isolate each pattern and muting unmuting specific samples. Having to then manually trim each sample afterward before moving to DAW seems like a bad workflow, a waste of time. Instead, you could just sync the SP to Ableton, mute/unmute pads and record your stems into clips that loop perfectly already inside the DAW.
I didn’t fully check that for this video tbh. I’ll have to look into it but I know that’s a known bug and I can’t for the life of my figure out why Roland haven’t fixed it yet….
@@spvidz they fixed it in this update according to the last line of the release notes. "Extra space around the start point when resampling a pattern."
@@iwriteonshit they supposedly fixed it when resampling a pattern to a pad, but when bouncing a pattern to a sample (a slightly different process, and a new feature of 3.0), the short silence is apparently there at the start
You would have thought @roland would work in an option that says export all pattern samples as stems or select multiple samples in pattern for batch export 🧐
Loving your videos about the sp404 mk2, I've never used ableton I'm still new to the sp404, any chance of doing any tutorials for Abelton for first time users?
I may do more Ableton videos in the future yeah, its just a pain doing screen recording and getting all the monitoring etc correct so it puts me off a bit. There are a few in my archive though
Have you tried opening the SP404 VST in Ableton and just dragging the stems from the pads into Ableton once you’ve bounced them down? I’m gonna give that a go this evening and report back.
@@ninjaturdle69 I just tried this but it just deleted the stem on the pad when I tried to drag on to audio track in Ableton. Have you got it to work? Be awesome if it does - think that a nice template in Ableton and drag and drop will be a super quick way to mix down and master

the pattern to sample is gr8, no doubt, but why didnt Roland, add pattern export samples to stems(individual tracks of all samples in pattern), export all, etc, and export sample select to stems (group of selected samples as one stem), as practical export options. There is a time and place for batch processing, and this one of them.
This seems a bit silly to me. I know it's personal preference but with this workflow you're just stuck in between two worlds of standalone, dawless production and daw based production. The amount of time and effort it takes to get your stems into your DAW makes it cumbersome. I've been using Maschine for a long time but want to get into dawless production so I've been deciding between different standalone units like the SP404MK2, MPC ONE or MPC Live 2 to be precise. This makes me lean more towards the MPC ONE or Live 2 because I can make the whole beat without jumping into a separate DAW to mix the tracks/stems. I think the SP404 is great but it makes certain things unecessarily complicated for me.
Its not that much different I don't think. the advantage of this is its drag and drop but its pretty easy to trim samples in Ableton etc. I guess its whatever you find easier
Yep there are just so many steps here, I can't think why I'd do this over just soling and recording into the DAW. A positive update though and handy feature none the less.
This seems like a really complex and convoluted way of exporting stems into a DAW… Surely Roland could just have an ‘export project’ function that exports sounds within patterns as wav stems that can just be dropped into a DAW project?!
Your videos are epic but I am overwhelmed with info as mine just arrived today. I have a question that will be a doddle for you but its driving me insane. I have imported a stem from a beat I am working on because I want to add some fx from the 404 to it. I have managed to get the sound I want but how do I resample this single stem with the fx to another pad to export? I tried exporting the sample with the fx I added it to but there is no fx when I export it. If you can tall me step by step this will help me loads! Thanks.
Is the SP404 mk2 really meant for this though? Why would I want to move Stems to a DAW? I thought the SP was meant to be a groovebox sampler that you can make your full beat in and spread it across patterns? That's how I use it anyway. I used to use Reason 9,10, and 11 and hated every minute of it. I loved it when I first got my MPC One and now my SP404 mk2. I guess it's to each his own.....

yeah! That's clear, but when you try to save this resample sample it's the same - you have to samples wothout effects on your flashcard. I mean, you already have resample drums, for example, some EQ filters, compressor or any stuff, but when you save it to flash - that's without effects.@@spvidz
what if you have ONE song that is broken up through like five or six patterns? Im insta f*cked into spending 5 or 6 times the amount of time on this beat lol
haha yeah it would be painfully slow on that scale. Might be a bit quicker to mute certain pads and record them in to a DAW live...That would save a bit of hassle
Nice video as always, got a question for you or anyone who’s half clever😂, is there a setting that will stop the pattern sequencer defaulting back to sound bank A when recording a pattern, I’m sure that in the older models once you started recording a pattern in the sequencer it would keep you in whatever sound bank you was in before entering pattern record mode.
@@Durian404 yeah it is a work flow killer. It’s really annoying especially if your some one like me who’s got memory of a goldfish and you forget to press the correct bank you want before playing the pads in and suddenly you’ve got a load of sounds playing you weren’t expecting😂
Nice work. I’ve started work on an Alexa skill to help with the key combos, so for example ‘how do I pattern copy’. As a newbie to the SP-404MKII I’m going to need all the help I can get with the key combinations without having to resort to RTFM. As/when I have it fully built and deployed I hope to turn it into a generic helper to which anyone can add hot keys for a given piece of kit. Cheers. Lee
@@spvidz Exporting mulitple samples in one pass on to SD would be nice…but the app plugin should work by dragging the stems you have bounced on the SP for a quicker workflow. Keep up the great content!
Hello! I watched Taetro and read on the update notes that the sp404 mk2 app is usable as a vst but no one but Taetro seems to have it. If I could figure out how to get it that’d be great for the purpose of saving time. Thanks 🙏🏼
I haven't had a chance to have a proper look at the app! I tried to reach out to Roland before the release but sadly didn't get any instructions. Will look into it more when I've got some time
