@@eldritchmorgasm4018 I had the three Dark World games until just a few years ago, and did some coverage on my old blog. Someone offered me a lot of money for them, and as they are not good games that were just sitting in my attic, I decided to let them go to a home where they would be more loved.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring In a sense, kinda true, they are not realy thaaat good, but still kinda fun! I guess only the one with the village is the game with some more long-term value. They have this "oh, it looks like a big colorfull toy collection" aspect + very simple rules, so they're good for children. But you didn't shame yourself by selling them, I understand... 🤗
It's great to think they made rules for using Terminators, Orks, Scouts and Eldar as well as regular marines for this game. . . Factoring in all the possible weapon loadout combinations and equipment cards I gives it massive repayability.
Oh yea!!!! I’m here mate, let’s do this. Also I’ll check out you blog. Just haven’t had time. Thank you for these videos. It’s really awesome bc I can’t play as much as I want and I watch your channel like I’m watching a hit tv series lol.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring No problem. Keep making them and I'll keep watching them. My brother is restoring his version of space crusade while I'm doing the same with my heroquest :)
@@chriscreativecontent Nice. My Space Crusade is in good shape, but I will still be doing some work on it in the future. Still a few things to finish on HeroQuest first.
I am coming up with PlayStation style medals for completing the missions in certain ways. . For Terminators so far he have "Hammer Time" for taking a squad with 3 Thunder Hammer Terminators, "Wolverine Wannabes" for the same but 3 Lightning claws. "Bullet Storm" for taking 3 storm bolters and an assault cannon. "Arder than Arnie" for not loosing any Terminators, I like anything that ads an extra challenge or reward for a bit of fun 😁
GW have done trophies in games such as Assassinorum, Crypt Hunters, and Doomsday Countdown. It's a really neat way to encourage people to replay and try new challenges.
We had to adopt some tactics at the end that might not have been quite in the spirit of the Angels, but we got the result. In fairness, I think I focused too much on shooting at the commander towards the end. Should have focused more on close combat to take advantage of the poor results when they happened.
i found that Space Crusade/Space Hulk 2019 that the Space Marines were heavily out numbered quite a bit, so i chit chatted with hobby gamer friends about tweaking the old/new space hulk vessel borad game's to even the odds slightly that made the game's a little more enjoyable to play, so it be interesting to see how you balance the space marine odds against the ailen filth in further episodes of space hulk & keep up the fantastic good work 👍.
Thanks for watching. Space Hulk and Space Crusade are two completely different games. Terminators in Space Crusade are a lot stronger than in Space Hulk. They have been doing rather well in the Space Crusade Renegade campaign I am running on the channel.
Loved this, I have about 15 of the old tiny Terminators on the right sized bases for the game, definitely making 5 of each chapter from the game now :)
Thanks for watching. If you're missing videos, you might want to check your notifications. When you are viewing my channel, click the bell icon next to the subscribed button and check that notifications are set to "all." I'm posting at least three times a week at the moment, and often more than that.
It's a great game. I don't think it's as much fun with terminators, but it's still a good laugh. Might have to do a run with a scout squad next. That will be an absolute blood bath.
Devo’ed that Yi Ar Kung Fu didn’t load 😢 sounds like your Christmas was the same as mine. This is my first games machine and I had this exact pack. Loads of nostalgia, we played Yi Ar Kung Fu all Christmas day😁
Yeah. I think I should have taken more risks attacking him in close combat. A few bad dice rolls can be more punishing and I wasn't having any luck with my gunfire.
You can find the boards, doors etc. as pictures online. Print them to 40mm per square, glue them to cardboard and bob's your uncle, the new terminator bases (40mm) and the new marines bases (32mm) will no longer be a problem.
Also just played my own game. Would be better if I could rope someone else in to play but playing against myself was better than nothing. I used your blip distribution approach, worked ok except in first game when the dreadnought came out immediately, the sergeant smashed it in one go then they went back to the dock and won. I rearranged so the dreadnought pile came out on board 4 and in this version the ultramarines were completely wiped out :) And actually it was a few 2+2 white dice hits from Gretchin ranged shots that did for the sergeant, not the genestealers or chaos marines
I really like the videos where you bust out the white dwarf modifications. I liked the terminators in lost patrol video you did just as much as I liked this one. I can't wait to see more like this if there's anything more white dwarf mods for you to utilise.
Thanks for watching, and for the kind words. There are rules for using scout squads in Space Crusade, and I am planning on doing a run with those at some point. It will be a murder, as the scouts are very squishy! There are also rules for running a mob of orks.
It's a really fun game. The original retro pieces are part of the appeal for me, but even with modern miniatures swapped in, it's still a really good game.
Space Crusade is my new big restoration and painting project. I'll be working on it through the start of 2022. There are already four playthroughs on the channel, plus videos on tips for buying, contents breakdowns, storage solutions and magnetising the miniatures.
Space Crusade and a few other boxed games were pretty much the extent of my involvement with 40K. I was a dedicated Fantasy Battle player back in the day, and couldn't afford to build 40K armies too.
I have all rules that were published in White Dwarf, including tyranids, hybrids, space marine scouts, and orks, so I wouldn't rule out some of that stuff appearing on the channel too at some point.
The gretchin which came with space crusade looked hilarious. I had a set but was never a massive fan of it. Heroquest was much more popular in my circules way back when. Ive just picked up a complete 3rd eddition Space Hulk which im very chuffed with......not got the balls to try and paint it yet but will do so one fine day
There's nothing quite like it, really. A few years back Games Workshop made Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth of the Necrons. Despite playing very differently, it featured marines from different chapters and very simple, accessible gameplay, so it did have some of the same feel to it. And of course, there's Space Hulk. Both of those games are also out of print at the moment though. You may get some of the same vibes from games like Core Space or Doom, but those games are much more complicated. Siege of the Citadel, another board game from the era of Space Crusade, got a remake a few years back, but I think it struggled through a botched Kickstarter and is no longer available. If you just want a game about marines fighting aliens, there's always Another Day in the Corps, but that gameplay couldn't be more different from Space Crusade. Maybe Galaxy Defenders? I'm not sure if that games still available. Or maybe the Wolfenstein board game by Archon Studio. Again, those aren't going to be like Space Crusade in terms of gameplay, but may give you some of the same concepts to explore.
A great watch! Do you think the alien reinforcement card could've taken the cards as they weren't used, even though your pool was 0 I'm not sure it means you aren't allowed any. What do you think? And how comes you didn't play your order cards, especially move it when you wanted to get back to the docking claw?
Hi. I played this game over a year ago, so I don't really remember all that much about it. If I understand your reinforcement question correctly, you are asking why I didn't take any reinforcement tokens to add to my pool when I drew the alien task force card. It could be for a number of reasons, but I believe this was a mission that didn't have a reinforcement pool. If so, then there would be no reinforcement entry points on the map, in which case even if I did draw reinforcement tokens I wouldn't have been able to bring them into play. For the orders question, again it could be any number of reasons, and I would have to go back and watch the video to have any idea why I did or didn't do certain actions. Sometimes you save cards for the perfect time, and that time never comes. I believe when I was heading back to the docking claw I may have only had my commander left, so didn't have any grunts to play any order cards on anyway.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Fair enough, if there's no identified reinforcement point then that does imply they aren't allowed. I thought just because the pool was 0 didn't mean you couldn't add to it, the unused pool would be all of the reinforcement tokens.
The size of the reinforcement pool doesn't matter. As long as you have unused reinforcement blips you can draw them. But in maps with no reinforcement entry points, you can't place them anywhere. The rules state that marine players get four Marine miniatures and one Commander miniature. The wording on different cards sticks to this wording. So, for example, there is an alien event card that activates a gun that can target "one marine miniature or commander miniature" while other cards, like orders, only say they affect "marine miniatures." This is also consistent with the Eldar Attack expansion, where Exarch order cards say they can be played on "Eldar Warriors" but not the Exarch itself.
Slightly awkward with those particular terminator models, but still a very entertaining episode, I loved it! It was definitely hammer time, and there are always some surprises where a lowly alien takes out someone he should have a lot more trouble with. I went to look at my old White Dwarf magazines - 133 yes, 135 yes, 134 no. Typical isn't it? I'll just have to look for it online. It seems that overall you still prefer playing Space Crusade with marines, and using terminators is OK as a diversion once in a while - is that a fair summary?
Thanks. It's slightly less awkward with these terminators than with modern terminators on round bases, as the weird shapes of the Space Hulk bases make it easier to position models to fit close together, while the bigger round bases just take up space on every adjacent square. Some first gen Space Hulk termies would be best, but I don't have any. You can find these rules (plus rules for scouts, orks, hybrids, and tyranids) for free on Scribd. They're all good fun rules, but I prefer using the original marines.
I've found the rules now, but I can't see where it says the commander has 4 wounds or hits before he dies. It just says that all terminators have an armour value of 3 and move 4 squares. Am I missing something? For the best terminators to use, did you mean the old ones with a built in bolter, and a curved bit that clips on to form the flamer? All the same pose, so the sergeant has to have a different base colour, or helmet, or something.
@@phildevey6302 All commanders in Space Crusade get six wounds. When you use terminators, what you are doing is taking a regular marine squad, and choosing to use terminator armour with terminator weapons, instead of taking equipment cards. The bulkiness of the armour changes your movement and armour stats as indicated, but your commander will still get six wounds tracked on your commander board. Early terminators were more compact on smaller bases, so the ones from first edition Space Hulk, but also metal models that were available at that time should be a better fit.
Thank you for the answer, I forgot that all commanders get 6 wounds as part of the regular rules. If you wanted a squad of the early space hulk terminators (with clip on flamer) I could help you out, I just need to receive them in a few days first. If you want them, let me know how to contact you outside of these comments, as I've no idea how to do that.
@@phildevey6302 Thanks for the offer. I would definitely be interested in some of the early Space Hulk terminators if we can work something out. They would be good for Space Crusade, but I'm also hoping to pick up Advanced Space Crusade at some point too. You can contact me by email using the address on my RU-vid "about" page. Alternatively, if you go to my blog (link in video description), there's a contact form you can use.
It's important, when shooting, to consider not just the strength of the gun, but the defence of the target. Marines are most commonly going to shoot at orks and gretchin, which are defence 1 and 0, so marine bolter fire is much more deadly. Marines also benefit from equipment cards and orders that can improve their accuracy. However, the bigger issue is, when a gretchin rolls two white dice, they only have an 8.3% chance of killing a marine (rolling 3 or more), but with one red dice, the chances jump to nearly 17%. Gretchin shouldn't be that killy. Incidentally, with two white dice a gretchin has 8.3% chance of killing a marine, but a marine has 55.5% chance of killing a gretchin, with a reroll the marine has over 70% chance.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring You're right, for space marines this would be much worse! - but I guess my point is fundamentally, I can't accept that a Gretchen, with a blunderbuss, can one-shot kill a terminator :p maybe the termies need two wounds. But also - I take your point that you have to take into account the armour. However the Gretchin blunderbuss still does the same "damage" as the Chaos Marine bolter. I think one white dice is more accurate for gretchin - but then, they would be a pointless unit! - maybe they could be used to just get in the way (which is IMO more accurate)
@@alastair4839 While I understand where you're coming from, It's a concession to a single-roll dice combat system with fixed armour values. For the most part, marines are going to be fighting orks and gretchin. Making the gretchin so weak they can't even kill a marine would make it so difficult for the alien player to get any points and would remove a lot of tension from the game. There isn't really enough purpose for a unit that just runs around to get in the way, especially in such large quantities, and the marines should always feel on edge and outnumbered. The chance of a gretchin killing a terminator is still less than 3%, which I think is a fair ratio for those occasional lucky shots.
That may well happen at some point, but I also have scouts, orks, and the Mission Dreadnought expansion to get through. So, it would probably be a while before I revisited the termies.
Space Crusade is from 1990 - Rogue Trader days. Orks would happily join a chaos warband if it served their purpose or there was the promise of loot, and they didn't really get corrupted because the mentality of the orks makes them difficult to manipulate. At this time GW was about to publish the Freebooter book, and that included information for chaos ork warbands. The genestealers aren't part of the warband, which is why they only pop up as event cards, but they still get controlled by the alien player who serves as a sort of dungeon master.
They aren't necrons. They are chaos androids. Built in the same factory as the chaos dread (and each housing a little daemon). They have their own lore, and have no connection to the necrons of today. They were dropped from Warhammer 40K back in the 90s. The genestealer can just be assumed to be scurrying around the massive hulk that the chaos warband has commandeered. There's probably all sorts of stuff living in the dark recesses of those places.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring nice, fortunately I picked this up last year for the Advanced Space Crusade rules and tiles and didn't even realize about it having the Space Crusade rules.
The only thing I'm doing is randomising the tokens because I'm play solo. I just divide the tokens into even stacks so I don't know what I'm going to face in each quadrant. Beyond that, I just try to play the aliens as well as I can to be challenging. The rules for terminators are from an old White Dwarf magazine and are available to download online.
