Listen, Cheerkin is giving me forbidden powers again and I am going to use them irresponsibly....
Automatons update has hit and with it some sweeping changes. But as always the Scripting community in this game is one step ahead. And what a treat this is!
And I am two steps ahead of the AWE police for making their guns too OP for bulletstorm reasons.

i thought this was going to be a video on mod ai vs the new vanilla ai then I proceeded to watch a large grid ship get cut in half by 100 drones in about 10 seconds 😂 that was fucking awesome

I Always Admire the people behind every script and the ingame madness they could break loose on ur game, but like all scripts, it tends to melt my PC. That's why the Automatons Update and the AI blocks implemented in-game is really a game changer for me, also ur absolutely right about how the Automatons still need more time to be perfected, updated, and hotfix but for now having Automatons on ur game without relying on scripts without melting ur PC is awesome and for me who tend to Join PVP servers casually where scripts are outlawed Automatons has become a META for Multiple Meshes Servers with absolute freedom I making ur own drone fleet without lagging the Host Server in the Process. Scripts may be 1 step or even 2 steps ahead of every vanilla update but Automatons has just changed the way I play the game without relying on scripts but only pure vanilla goodness. Automatons still need fixing but for me, it's a step for the game to enhance our playstyle without relying on scripts on private pvp servers. Although ur creations are mind-boggling awesome the fact u cant use them on private servers makes them useless for me, although I can still use ur creations in my own survival game but sometimes survival is boring no matter how much u advance and create on ur own private world it still lacks real people for me to encounter and establish communication.

I completely agree. Many servers where scripts are prohibited have lags. With this update, you can go to almost any server and build drones and homing missiles. Also, this update allows players who are not strong in programming to do all these things. battles have become more interesting and do not end in a few minutes.

@@user-vs6jt9or6f To be fair thanks to the WS/ModIO, you do not need to be even slightly aware of any programming to do well, just be able to understand how the script works and how to set it up. That part is more difficult as APCK for example makes use of commands and stuff that is harder to set up. As for script melting servers, there is programming block melting for that. Scripts are not inherently laggy at all, but bad scripts absolutely are. And for some, it is down to some API functions (like for example, inventory functions) just being very bad in of themselves. Most people unfortunately deploy inventory management scripts, which are known to be the absolute worse of all. I am poking fun of the people saying Automatons made scripts obsolete, and in fact the goal of this vid is to show how well performing scripts are compared to automatons in a game performance way. But I am an actual defender of simplicity of use. That is why I am 200 FOR the AI blocks, and am already using them for cinematics and enemy ships because, to be honest, they are very convenient

These drones can benefit from event controller reading cargo to see if ammo is depleted, then arm a small warhead and enable missile behavior upon running out of ammo

I always get a kick out of your vids. Very satisfying bulletstorm -- Those 25mm Aryx guns cut the target ship in half, then the big chunk in half again, like a hot knife through butter. How do the drones fare in PVE/PVP combat when the target is trying to maneuver more? It's still grossly overwhelming force, of course. :D Really got a laugh from your subtitles too! Ages ago you had a video with a missile warship spewing fountains of missiles, but you didn't include which script you used. If you see this comment, I'd love to know which missile scripts you have liked the most. I'm familiar with Whiplash's LAMP and Rdav's script.

Oh this is likely because I was using Artemis, an in-dev script that isn't released on the WS. However a while back I convinced the script maker to have a sort of open-ish beta for the script, which is available on my discord (link in the description). Just read the rules, send your application and you will most likely gain acess Artemis and APCK now cover the bulk of my weapon script usage, with Artemis for almost every missile application and APCK for almost all drone applications, though APCK makes excelent long range cluster missiles, and Artemis can do drones as well

Cheerkin tested it with 300 drones. I would not recomend doing that on a server but technically there is absolutely zero things that prevent to bump the numbers even more appart from the game itself

Cheerkin is to thank for this. Now this implementation as it stands is still imperfect and I am working hard with him to fix the issues that these drones have. The 1T drones (ones that just have a single axis of thrust) spread out well, but also do not really have any collision avoidance to avoid running into their targets. As for the 3T drones their issue is not being spread out enough, leaving them to either shoot each other or run into one another.

I've seen the vanilla AI do something I never expected it to do. It's capable of handling the simulated "aerodynamics" from atmospheric wing mods. Sure someone could put that into a drone script, but it was impressive to see that Keen made a system robust and variable enough to be compatible with lightly modded setups. Never seen them take off and land with single-thrust winged designs though. Unlike this which is just...riddled with custom content, and bullets. I dunno if this is creative or not because I just can't see how you'd fit that many bullets into these...what are those, 3x2x6 small-grid drones at the most?

Absolutely, I do love how the keen AI somehow works better with aero wings than it does without. These drones CAN use aero surfaces, they aren't really aware they are using them, so are the keen drones. But the keen drones always want to "face" where they want to go, meaning they indirectly fly like a plane would. This is creative. The drones themselves have little storage, as they are expendable (cannot be recovered) and the final version will only be using batteries which gives it a limited combat operation time. That being said they can output a lot of damage and the 25mm used here carries a LOT of rounds even with just the internal storage. The final version will have 2 small cargo containers for internal storage of ammo and be a bit bigger. Still one axis thrust and 2 hardpoint for weapons, but with the ability to remove the armor shroud to add 4 more

@@mobiuscoreindustries Very nice. I'll have to consider the idea of somehow mixing vanilla AI docking and script-based guidance. Maybe I can figure out how to get a proper airstrip running, with radar-based auto-scramble within 150-200km to deter close-range landing craft. Fully recoverable (hopefully) and able to run autonomously. Just plop it down and connect as many hangars as you need, and the skies shall be filled with fighters. Sure they can't chase an enemy when they escape into space, but they might just blast 'em enough that they won't get that far.

@@malomalovids I plan on releasing multiple drone types. These sub-units may not dock after launch, but independent APCK drones can, and with great ability I may add. The goal therefore is as follows. - have direct deployment subunits designed to be cheap throw away to launch at the start of an engagement. The drone made here would fit that description - fully fledged fighter drones with high self autonomy and sustainability. The drones I have previously made with APCK fit that description - swarm carrier drones, being themselves able to create, supply and launch sub-unit drones and missiles, but also being able to return to their carrier ship. Those I have yet to make Sub-unit throaways will likely only have thrust in one direction, any unit designed for recovery will have high thrust in all directions, as it pairs well with their ability to avoid turret fire.

I mean I cheated, made their weapons unbearably powerfull. The normal 25mm actually struggles a bit against large grid but it very precise. It would have had issues cutting down the big ship but would still erase the fighters

Pretty much, or well normally drones aren't packing weapons this strong. But I gave them that for destruction value. In themselves there are relatively slow ish and if they aren't using special weapons like here, a lot of good fast firing turrets can help, but of course the final version. Will include artillery variant that will keep it's distance making it that much harder

To anyone who would use this to compare scripts to the new update, I don't think that is the right approach, as the update was meant to get better drones into the base game without scripts, and give those who don't know code an easier time getting into drones. Scripts will always be better, but the new blocks just make drones more accessible~

I said the same thing(the vanilla ai blocks were nothing compared to this script from Cheerkin) to a few other people that swore that the new ai blocks brought something to the game it didnt have. Hands down not even in the same ballpark. Anyway awesome video would like to see more. Im also hoping that the sound effect for the 25/40 gets changed as its terrible. Right now my favorite Gatling type weapon is Nukeguard's MCRN PDC's.

@@killerzone123456 It's possible, but require a lot of code space, because that would be entirely different model of comms. Maybe if would still have room for it later. 1t yeah, but having 3d thrust SU drones to dock - why not. SU concept was initially about adding some guidance to drone-lobbed PWM torpedoes, but since it is already almost fully capable unit, docking seems logical.

I mean, the whole point of Automatons was not actually made for PC regular players .. it was actually made for those trolls that think they are better than using scripts or for console players like me who don't have access to scripts at all...

I do not like to be mean to console players, this is not a choice they really can even have. They can use scripts tho, just not make them. And it is more difficult to do. But tons of people went out of the weeds calling scripts obselete because you could make automaton AI ships and AI missiles... I felt like clapping back

@@JescoLincke If they are simple enough its allright, especially compared to the prior stuff But these drones can just run on a single program block, it saves on overhead. The downside is that they are pretty stupid, they do not have collision avoidance nor a lot of self awareness. The prior version of these drones often just rushed and rammed their intended target, these ones have an added condition to pull off if they get too close

These ones are yeah Because those are running weaponcore, they use a TGP script made by Warerider that takes data from WC to know where targets are. This is combined with a radar from AWE for a really long detection range In vanilla, there is the TGP Lidar script, and of course the ship or drone's own designator turrets

If a script in a single programmable block is enough to make a drone why Keen didn't do this? Are modders better than the original developers? I actually got dissapointed about the update. It does automate a lot of things but you have to use multiple event controllers or a lot of AI blocks. Drones can't fly properly without having thrust for each direction. So you can't make a good missile just with a forward thrust. You can't make an AI rover actually. A lot of things are missing.

To be fair APCK is quite a bit harder to setup, it requires some logic (not programming, just logic) and has some finicky things with it too. But its scaling is also a whole lot better

You could’ve just opened the entity list, selected the carrier it’s drones and a few of the microdrones, hit delete and the result would’ve been the same. I’ll admit though the optics on this are way cooler…

Well you know, my space engineers friends hate me because my chosen way to delete wayward pirates and debris is to use nuclear weapons agaisnt them like every so often on the survival it would suddently be day for EVERYONE on the server because I was going around blowing up some NPC traders
