If you build your drills on the front, back and middle of the ship, it will be possible to dig directly downwards through the ice (by spinning the ship little by little) AND dig the way you did (albeit sideways)

You've mentioned splitsie in the past. I like his content, but he puts more time in prettying things up before they're even functional. You on the other hand, at least so far, build very utilitarian. +1 sub!

This is a great video buddy! You can place a landing gear with a few vertical blocks under the docked ships with a plus shape at the top and your ship can’t fall to its damage. I primarily use hydrogen, it’s just so effective! I have a little shuttle in my 40k block ship garage for mining asteroids and exploring with ion and hydrogen on standby, and it’s fantastic 👍

Hovering no longer works. Ship drops like a brick. Hovers for 10 seconds then drops.

I was looking at this thinking.. wow, did I underestimate H2 thrusters or something? 2 of them keeping this thing afloat is awesome.. Then I see cargo capacity, 10 times cargo setting.. that means that your 91 tons of ice is actually only weighing 9.1 tons, with a single large h2 thruster capable of lifting 48 tons, your craft at 10 times cargo is using about 15% of the available thrust at full load :), when in reality it would be twice over capacity :P

Your calculated flight time was way off, the 10 hours you calculated would represent the time the o2/h2 generator would take to process the stored ice, the resulting hydrogen will be stored in the tank and the engines will run off that hydrogen, therefore flight time would be a minimum of 10 hours to process the ice + the time to burn the stored hydrogen. However, once the tank is full of hydrogen, the o2 gen will pause processing extending the processing time exponentially, only running as your engines consume the hydrogen, then consider, in space and up to max speed, with dampeners off the engines will idle. So you probably have flight time of several weeks.

Build a platform under the ship and then it'll have less distance to fall and will take less damage.

I am loving this series, however really disappointed that you have this hydrogen efficiency mod installed, feels like it takes alot of the challenge out of the game which I was really enjoying up to this point.

Houston I have a big problem ! ;-) When I try to lift up to get ice, the thrusters respond but few seconds after they seem not to be able to sustain the fly and the ship goes down. And when it is on the floor I can't go up anymore, even if i use them again. May you know a way to solve this or may be you may juste know why it is doing this. I am so sad that I can't go into space ... in space engineers^^

Hi Kanajashi! :) Sorry to report that in 2020 especially in the version i have, 1.193 in survival mode on an earth like planet, this kind of ship doesn't work... Same setup, but if i fill completely my hydrogen tank, the ship will not take off... do u have any blueprint for a ship that works for this new version of the game?

Quick Question. How do you keep yourself in the air for so long I built the exact same ship and I get the most 15 minutes of flight time. Is there something I'm not turning on/off to lengthen my flight time?

I've tried this unofficial it doesn't suffice the thing runs out of hydrogen so quick I barely can make it to the ice and back to my base before it's all gone hydrogen in this game is broken

I have been going to creative mode to copy enemy ships Like that 1 you want. Down side is it also copies the autopilot too so the ship will just take off when spawned or built. But I do have some ideas to fix that issue already

You need to have the easy inventory mod installed in the game, or nowadays you can just use the built in build planner.

Same I cut the landing gear off and the ship just crashed to the ground I've got the thrusters on and they didnt keep the ship hovering

In your cockpit it shows just over 300 steel plate, you said its enough to build 3 drills. My game it takes 300 to build 1 drill, am i missing something here or is there a mod that makes resources more plentiful? noob question i totally understand.

It could either be a mistake on his end, or a setting that's been changed on world creation that determines how many resources are needed per block.

Probably this is a stupid question, how do you get your ore not being swallow by the Base? My ice is being put on the conainers and I can't keep it on my ship. Thx if any answer.

@@luigiland5064 you can put a sorter block on the connector in your base. "White list" is a list for items you DO want sucked through. Items not listed won't be allowed through the sorter. "Black list" is the opposite. Blocks the listed items from passing through. So use a sorter and but ice on the black list and it wont be allowed through. Hope this helps!

I can't place large hydrogen thrusters like in the vid. Game only allows small thruster, why is that?

Could be a couple things. First make sure you are using the right item from the G menu. It should be the hydrogen thruster with a little "+" sign on the image in the top right. That plus sign means there are multiple versions of that block that you can scroll through to select. Then when looking at where you want to place the thruster use the mouse wheel to scroll through the two thrusters, large and small.

you are so baffled by the amount of hydro it takes but you use mods to reduce that amount... it's not so feasable if you use the vanilla way of running hydrothrusters. also, i'm not sure what your calculation of amount of ice did, stopped following as soon as I noticed you were calculating how fast it was processed into hydrogen, instead of how much hydrogen was consumed when flying full thrust. I don't think it says anything meaningful to count the amount of ice being consumed by the o2 generator or am I that wrong?

You're right . I didn't watch this video before but I think too he uses mod. Just curiousity , i made absolutely same ship with him. It consumes so much hydrogen and H2/O2 generator is generating H2 slower than from his ship.

if you had a script, this could have been a less than 15 min truly instructional video about how to build ships using those stupid hydrogen engines, you are wasting a lot of your (and our) time by figuring out this or that and being distracted by enemy ships etc, this video is obviously recorded of yourself playing and having fun in SE
