For the miners if you put the drill vertical on the underside of the ship and then just mark the perimeter of the area you want mined, they will just mine down creating a huge open pit, collecting everything inside the zone.
If I'm not mistaken that conveyor converter you attached to the small rotor head at the drone printer is backwards. It has a big port on one side and three small in a line. You got the three small attached to a big port.
Ctrl+Shift+B blueprints subgrids. IE the drone (or random ships at base) while its connected to the base via a connector(merge block off). Also print it with the thrusters off and battery already on recharge. Then use that timer to first turn batteries on auto then turn thrusters on, disconnect, and then AI on, etc. I'd use an event block on the drone build platform to lock the connector. But, only if the merge block is also connected so that you wont get stuck when trying to leave. On this same note use an event block to lock your ingot shuttles' connector instead of the recorder. Just make sure when the event block locks the connector to also have it turn itself off that way you can leave lol. you will find that this will have a lot higher success rate when docking. Cool tip/trick to get an event block to wait for multiple conditions to be met. You even get status lights lol. 1: have event block A turn on a light when battery is charged 2: have event bock B turn on another light when cargo is full. 3: have event block C look at those two status lights then launch the ship/drone via the AND checkbox and launch timer. I use this on my wandering base defense drones and cargo shuttles that go up to my space base.
Suggestions: If you're going to have to keep reprogramming the miners, a couple of low profile spotlights on the rear thrusters looking forward might be helpful. Also, instead of hand welding the solar tunnel, you should be able to build a small welding vehicle that fits through the door.
With the PAM path, you need to record pretty much to the job start, or ensure theres a clear path between the end of the recorded path and the point when you choose "start job". And you could tell it do dump the ice itself and just come home with ores 😁 Love that damn script lol
I hope you see this in time but your drones need more batteries!! I'm actually watching this series because you're using them. But that one battery can't handle the amount of thrusters! Also, if you set it up right, you can have the AI Defensive block actually trigger the drones to undock from your base when it detects an enemy, just click on the setup actions and group those three connectors or merge blocks, and using an Event Controller built on the drone can detect the unlock and trigger the AI blocks to activate making them more autonomous. But they need more batteries! Hope you consider this in your next video!
i love making hourglass style tanks (the bottom one up right and the top upside down so their tops are touching) with those industrial tanks with some of the grated catwalks on the sides for some detail
As someone else has stated your junction for the drones off the rotor is on backwards it has a large connection on one side and 3 small connections on the other also your drones are significantly under powered. those thrusters require about 1 and a 1/2 small power blocks to be fully powered. This will make your drones sluggish. I would suggest adding another small battery and trimming your thrusters down to one per direction. It could make your drones very slim as they face enemies if you placed the one up thruster on the bottom and took out the wing struts.
Oh noo! I didn't realize! Thank you for letting me know about the connection. For the thruster, yeah if it has trouble I might need to redesign it again. I probably should have actually tested it after the redesign lol
If you turn on view sensor range on your drones you can view the box it’s creating as the mining job it makes lining up your jobs much easier. Also if you add PAM to a drone that has no drills it goes into transport mode and you just set a path between two connectors and it will move items and it has all of the PAM features of damage detection and keeping battery and fuel full the vanilla blocks don’t have
Honestly i think a mining ship with the mining below instead of infront that does a open pit job will allow you to mine stuff easier since it wont have a "cave" above it.
My tunneling method is to use a drill and piston system attached to the base. It's slower, but it keeps it level. Works for making underground spaces like bunkers or hangars.
@@AndrewmanGaming May not be a bad idea to set up some backup hydrogen generators too, like in an underground chamber. LOL it's not like you don't have enough ice to get hydrogen from
I suggest you put more 'ice poopers' on the back of your mining drones so they don't spend all their time just collecting ice. Also, I think [and I could be wrong] that making their mining path wider, and shorter, would be more efficient, in that they would spend more time in ore bodies, filling up close in first, which would use less power, and collect less waste.
Love the videos! Keep up the amazing work! Would you consider a collaboration with Splitsie and Quantum Chief? I love the videos of all 3 of you and I think a collaborative series where you all either work together as a team or as "opponents" would be amazing! Maybe a custom planet/system/scenario?
That would be a totally awesome setup! Having all 3 in either Collab or Opponents would be great! Although opponents might be a little more *Exciting*!!
if you want a script supplying your fighter directly you can use Isy inventory manager with his special function you can make it that some inventory item are directly sent to an inventory type block, that's how I keep my fighters resupply after each trip
thanks for another awesome episode Andrewman 🙂 the shaking of the drone was something to do with small grids on connectors being connected while thrusters are on, try deactivating inertial dampeners while they are connected, then disconnect and reactivate the dampeners this should solve the issue... the auto cannon has more damage btw, but the dps is less than that of the gats.... meaning cos of ammo and damage per second is higher for ammo cost but lower for DPS and suggestion for your mk3, might be worth just basing what constitutes an upgraded version by the structural design.... then adding identifiers to the end of the drone version ID... for example "Expresso Mk3 AuC = Autocannon, Expresso Mk3 Gat = Gatling, Expresso Mk3 ReR = Reloadable Rockets, StR = Standard Rockets, ART = Artillery, RaG = Railgun etc and so on this would mean the hull design is the Mk3 but the loadout will be identifiable so you can account for what is out there and what's is more effective..... on the resource base I would say a fair amount of O2/H2 generators on base and some more H2 Engines would ensure the base is more powered up and that excess Ice is not going to waste as those drones aren't able to eject enough of it before they return.... and may be worth placing branched off turret placements and decoy positions about 100-200 metres around the solar tower and your base with welder repairs.... I'd say might be worth branching off underground to get them properly secured so nothing could break the connection on the surface... while having assault cannons on a higher position4 high then having 4 Gat turrets around 4 blocks out so they have more coverage without as much chance they get obliterated by the Cannons, plus the extra distance will mean if you attach a decoy 5 extra blocks on each branch of Gat Turrets, with a subsurface welder it would ensure the Decoy is online and divert any attacks from the turrets... and be able to rebuild when needed and provide more survivability for the Solar Towers to continue to do their jobs.... again thanks for another awesome episode 🙂 I look forward to the next one 🙂
If you want to annihilate excess ice without having your dropped item count maxed out (which could end up removing the wrong dropped items), you could try sticking on a "flare stack" made of hydrogen thrusters to remove use up hydrogen so the O2/H2 generators can keep eating it. You'll probably want those to auto-shutoff if hydrogen or ice starts dropping too much, though. Also, that reaver was actually in range of the assault cannon - it has a range of 1400 meters when controlled manually (I think possibly automatically given a locked target too maybe?), though if it were me in control I'd probably miss every shot at that range anyways lol. I'd really recommend the Build Info mod as well, it can tell you stuff like the area of effect of your welders and stuff (really basically everything about the block you're placing), and it also gives air vents a scan for air leaks that can highlight where holes are for you. Just some ideas and info
Or you could use hydrogen engines instead of flaring. That way you get power as well. Flaring would only be necessary if they shut off for some reason. I think they stay on even if at 100% power in battery. They definitely keep running at night when the sun goes down. You could do the same for the miners put a hydrogen engine, tank, and h2o2 gen. That way the ice is used as fuel and batteries won't run out. I think it doesn't spend enough time at base to recharge as it takes off when empty, which with drain all is only a few seconds.
@@warriorsabe1792 they might, but at night they won't as there is no solar power. i always had problems where if i forget to turn it off, it burns through all the ice but that could be because i wasn't drawing anywhere near enough power from solar panels so they would always be on. if nothing else, it should at least drastically reduce the need for a flare stack.
To Totally discard ice/stone what I have done in the past if poke the connector end point underground (getting it far enough, usually about 1/2, is a requirement) , then it drops the materials underground and you don't have to worry about it any more as it falls to the center of the world :)
Ok, maybe im a minimalist, but the underground tunnel can just be the interior blocks of the floor and passage 3 light on top of those. Narrow and cramped, but will save a tone of resources.
It would be nice to see you build a small Hydro ship to go explore the area more. Maybe go and see if you can find what's left of the ship that exploded out from under you. Also be cool to see some defence turrets around the solar tower. Have a Great one!!!
I feel like you could make the tunnel easier if you put a welder on a piston and push it through slowly, might make access difficult but then again you could make a maintenance tunnel for construction
In order to fill in the holes you made in the ground, you could check out the concrete tool mod. It is what it sounds like, it is concrete that you place in the world to repair the ground. Would be nice to see you use it a bit either to fix the holes in the ground, or change the nearby terrain to look like you have actual roads and stuff
As far as I know, hydro thrusters are pretty fast at destroying floating items, so dropping ice into a large hydro thruster flame should be able to destroy it quickly. I have not tested how fast this method is with ore/ice, but I know that it is pretty damn fast at deleting components
When I was catering huge tunel I was using small drill, welder and projector on piston and the work was easy. Sometimes I also use small block wedding car.
Seeing you place that conveyor converter on backwards brought back some painful memories in my early SE days. Tis the reason I wont play without Build Info/Vision lol
the tunnels looks sweert if it was bigger you can do a bike kinda, also you can change the floor to conveyors? so you can put a few guns on the solar , liked to the base. maybe with small conveyors? in your base with a advance rotor small head , conveyor till the towers , then a conveyor converter? and make it large grid again ? , its cheaper on the resources that way ?
20:15 LOL that absolutly was a incredible sight to behold! The way the reaver just yeeted himself into the ground was hilarious. Why did he do that tho? He didn't even get hit by the turrets and neither was there any electronic part down there. You have reaver experience from other playthroughs. Do you know why they do this?
They are coded like that because in Firefly, that is how they acted. In the show, they are humans with broken brains, living for violence first and foremost - even at the cost of Self Preservation.
I figured out a setting for lights that makes it more like an incandescent bulb, R 255, G 230, B 212. I think it looks quite good and feels more natural or homey.
I’m guessing the Matya miner or however it was spelled ran out of power because it kept spitting out everything it picked up and never filled but you can change the settings on Pam so that they’ll return to base if they’re full or if their batteries go below a certain amount so they don’t work themselves to death.
The double deck hydrogen tanks look like one of those glass french coffee brewers soooo.... fitting? Edit: about the tunnel, no need for ships. Just pistons and a drill. That's it easy fast and cheapo
Also, you have the conveyor converter on backwards. Only one side has the big conveyor. I just thought I should let you know before it becomes a problem.
I've never liked the PAM miners. Personally, I prefer building automated mining platforms. May take a little bit of extra investment but you'll be rolling in more ore than you know what to do with once you're done.
In the AI and recording stuffs it is kind of important (or not important just a good habit) to place the recording blocks in the middle axis of your connector, because then it doesn't really matter what direction they are coming in but I also like to give them multiple points of straight approach. Another tipp is to record the last waypoint (where it connects) on the connector while thrusting down, so it will HAVE to get into range to reach the last waypoint and so it doesn't miss the range of the connector. I think I didn't butcher this explanation but if I did Splits (who else) has an extremely detailed and easy tutorial on drones. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SqZrD9tmH_E.html) Hope this helps...
Heh! Do like Shadow and Splitzie and use hydrogen tanks to bomb enemy installations! (~_^)-b Call it "The Espresso Express" or even "The Exploding Espresso Express" ~( 'w')/
What if you have the sorter that dumps ice on "drain all off" My idea is that once the cargo container is full, the ice will be deposited in the connector and be dumped
