Space Knowledge: Mars & Saturn - Zenith - Space Documentary
Space Race to the Moon: • Space Race to the Moon...
00:00 Mars
Early in the life of the solar system Mars appears to have had Earth-like conditions. Planetary researchers have been targeting Mars to gain insight into how our own planet developed.
This episode looks at the work of the probes orbiting Mars and the rovers exploring its surface.
25:56 Saturn
The ringed planet is of immense interest to researchers who believe that Saturn’s ring system will share similarities with the proto-planetary disc from which the solar system evolved.
This episode reveals the work done by the Cassini probe that spent more than 13 years examining the Saturnian system.

Space, the final frontier…yeah, I loved Star Trek the old series on TV. One of my staples when I got home from school. Mars Early in the life of the solar system, Mars appears to have had Earth-like conditions. Planetary researchers have been targeting Mars to gain insight into how our own planet developed. This episode looks at the work of the probes orbiting Mars and the rovers exploring its surface. Saturn The ringed planet is of immense interest to researchers who believe that Saturn’s ring system will share similarities with the protoplanetary disc from which the solar system evolved. This episode reveals the work done by the Cassini probe that spent more than 13 years examining the Saturnian system. The core of Mars has hardened and is unable to maintain a magnetic shield to protect the planet from the solar wind . Nothing can be done to make Mars habitation possible . However , exploring Mars can answer a limited amount of information about its history .

I am compelled to express my love of this program. As a boy I dreamed of space as a teen I imagined different worlds and entities as an older man I fell in love with our potential this presentation is what I wanted to see as a ten year old. This as close as I will ever be to "space" and I am grateful for this wonderful program. If I could pick a "space" hero It would be Lous wo

As a 63 year old, I'm just so amazed how far we've really come and how quickly technology moves. I remember the first space launch(a bit) and the moon landing( a lot). Thanks for these as that way younger people will know the history.

I'm the same age Janet, I'm jealous of what changes my grandson and his children will see, but content that I can say I saw the moon landing and the mad space race of the late 60s early 70s

Dave and Janet, I, too, am in the club. I was born in August 1958, the summer NASA was created. The first Voyager was launched on my 19th birthday. :Like you two, I watched every minute of moon walks, and I sited the Skylab in orbit with binoculars. I know what you mean, Dave1234aust, about wishing I could experience all the accomplishments upcoming generations will witness. But I take comfort in realizing what I've be able to see. It's been phenomenal! My grandparents, born in 1896 and '97, watched the Apollo 11 moon walks with us. And to think they recalled the Wright Brothers' first flight at Kitty Hawk!

Whenever I think of the Cassini probe valiantly struggling to keep transmitting, as it blasts through Saturn's atmosphere at unimaginable speeds, I get a few tears in my eyes. These little probes and rovers carry our human curiosity and sense of wonder out into the solar system to places we can't go ourselves.

It's awesome to see these missions going off as perfectly, (according to predicted plans,) as they had. It must be a pretty cathartic experience, in that room at JPL, after years of designing and engineering a mission and then months of travel time and the obligatory 15 minute communication delay between the Earth and Mars, to find out whether everything went okay or not. 👍 In truth, whatever they were seeing at Mission Control, had actually already happened out there on the Martian surface so, it's also gotta be a pretty helpless feeling as well lol all at the same time. What a cool job that would be. (Stay in school, kids lol you definitely don't want to get stuck doing something you hate for a living. That's for sure!) ✌
