Sam here...I'm sorry!!! I've never even cared about either the Imperial Fists or the Thousand Sons space marine chapters...so, yes, I confused them. I am not, nor have I ever claimed to be an expert on Warhammer 40K...so, you can expect me to make some mistakes from time to time...again, my apologies!

I picked this game up last march on amazon for super cheap, we were going to go camping in the rv for a few days and the weather was going to be raining the whole time. We had a blast with it, and it also ended up with me only 2 months later picking up the necron combat patrol...(so I could have the right minis to put in place) Now I have a 2000 point necron army, and a 2000 point tyranid army and my wife and I have gone from, this game to kill team, to combat patrol. Great intro for us to this world, and I now have painted up 7 different kill teams, my whole necron army and about a third of her tyranid army. Honestly this was a great intro to the hobby for us, I hope it was and is for others even if it is getting hard to pick up a copy. Great review, and loved seeing someone else enjoy it so much.

Here's something to add to the Con list: no Actual Necron figures.
@bozworth

cost of the game would have been doubled or even tripled with the number and variety of necron minis they would have needed to include. they would have priced it out of the affordable (entry level/gift giving) board game category they were aiming for.

Thanks for your review, which helped convince me to buy the game. My wife, 8-year old son and I played the game for the first time, and we had a great time! My son loved it and rated the game a 10 out of 5 (he clearly really LOVED it). My wife rated it a 3 out of 5. I would rate it a 4 out of 5. It was a blast to play, and we will be playing it more in the future!

16:15 Yeah pretty much on point 😂 My brother and I, got this set a couple of months ago. And I’m loving the story and world of 40K ! I don’t think I’ll be building an army , mainly because I don’t know anyone that likes 40K around my area. But I will be buying more sets like this. Thanks for the review

Please explain how Brother Infernus was able to hop past his 3 comrades on the first move of the game? Space Marines may only move 1 square per action point. He has 3 action points and 3 soldiers in front of him. Does not compute....

Shadespire Underworlds might also be something y'all also enjoy and with two core sets you can do 2-4 players. Takes about 30 mins with two players and it's not 40k, it's Warhammer fantasy but still good.

Seems to me that this corrects some of the clunkiness of the Death Angel card game, making the spatial aspect better with dudes on a map rather than a line of cards with room feature cards on the side. I found I house-ruled Death Angel a good bit, but it seems this will play really well as is. Is it fair to consider this a replacement of Death Angel, operating at that level?

For me, the core set and two expansions were worth it alone for the miniatures. All together it's essentially a near complete set of the first series Space Marine heroes. The core set includes the Sergeant and I believe all of the Japan-only models. The Recon Mission expansion also includes the hard to find Captain model. If you have a Barnes & Noble membership discount or Educator discount, you can get all three sets at roughly $6.50 a miniature. Regular price without discounts or tax at Barnes & Noble is about $8.18 a miniature. I believe Space Marine Heroes series 1 costs $7.99 per miniature (mystery figures, too) at official Warhammer and GW stores. So even at regular price these sets give you 11 of the 13 Space Marine Heroes series 1 minis at regular GW prices plus a full board game for an extra $2.
@JakeSweeper
@JakeSweeper 5 лет назад
Hmm.... It's a pretty good Gateway game, to be sure. Wonder if GW will expand upon it, either with add-on supps or new stand-alone games that could tie into each other to make larger games.

I've got the original Space Hulk. This would be a great way to revamp it and allow solo play. Don't forget to use the advanced cards. I consider it more like Advanced HeroQuest. Running through each level with a different combination of Marines also changes things up. Fair score. Would be great with all minis but the expense probably would've been about 100 bucks. I'm adding the other minis though. Looks better.

What do you think Sam, would buying and painting up a set of Necron’s be worth it/work with this game? Me and my boys are into the WH board games (40K and Shadespire) but not interested in getting into the miniatures game. But we do like painting minis for our board games. If yes, have any idea how many of each type?

Moving through a Space Marine and ending on an empty square on the other side does not count as just one action, but an action per square moved.
@lemonhead94133
@lemonhead94133 6 лет назад
Exactly. That first turn with Brother Infernus should not have happened. Infernus has only 3 actions and 3 move actions would have landed him on the space occupied by Brother Grimm (the yellow miniature), which is not allowed. Infernis is stuck there until the other Space Marines move out of his way.

This got a 7 when Aristeia got a 6 - you got to be joking, right?
@thedicetower
@thedicetower 6 лет назад
Sam here...two COMPLETELY different kinds of games meant for two completely different audiences. For the kind of game Aristeia is (mid-weight, card driven arena combat game), yes, it got a 6/10, imo...Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire is much better, again, imo. For the kind of game Space Marine Adventures is (extremely light-weight entry-level/gateway cooperative game), yes, it gets a 7/10. Frankly, the connection/comparison between these two game shouldn't even be drawn.
@alexandrebarbier1655
@alexandrebarbier1655 6 лет назад
Well, of course these games are different and target at different audiences, but you seem to be the house-reviewer for all the games that fall in the 'miniatures game' category. Thus, in this respect, and I think you will concur, I believe the link between these two is not as far stretched as you seem to imply. And, if I follow your logic, there is then not much connection between Aristeia, which is a miniatures area control game (with some cards) and Underworld (which I love btw) which is a card driven game with minis. So, in the end, to me it is still a 6 vs & a 7 and a better grade for a game that is, imo, significantly weaker. PS: On a side note, I really like your reviews but I strongly disagree with you on that one!
@thedicetower
@thedicetower 6 лет назад
Sam here...yeah, Aristeia just didn't click with me...played it multiple times, and it just didn't feel like anything new and/or ground-breaking...just a slightly different theme slapped on to a bunch of mechanisms already done before. But back to the original point I was making, Space Marine Adventures is in more of a family game category (nearly at the mass market level) for me...something that a Dad will purchase to play with his kids to introduce them to the Warhammer 40K universe. Aristeia, on the other hand, is much more of a proper designer game meant for the tried and true gamer and his/her buddies. To compare them based solely on the fact that they both have miniatures and card play would be fallacious...I mean Monopoly also has miniatures and card-play, right? I recognize that Aristeia is the "better" design, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it must garner a higher number out of 10 in my personal ratings.

This game is TERRIBLE! Badly written rule book, weak components, and mechanics that make the "Necron" element and even the Space Marine chapters pointless. The enemy takes no action against the players. They don't move to create obstacles to the players beyond spawning, or give any sense of danger. I agree this pointless reason to roll dice will burn itself out after you've played through the third tier possibly midway threw the second when you relies how little there is to this "game". There is so much flavor text printed on these card because it creates so little of it's own. Blitz Ball is simple. This is just pathetic. Arena of Blood, and Ork Brewhouse bash, which were both given away free in White Dwarf were much better games in all respects. Unaccredited designer is not surprising this person should be ashamed. What happen GW?
