The thing that bothers me about this game is that the Adeptus Astartes are given the same combat value as ordinary Greenskin Grunts. If the game was true to lore, the Space Marines should be at least a Tier 3 elite unit.

Not sure why people preffered Dow 1 over Dow 2 except for nostalgia. It had a very interesting minute tactical gameplay and the multiplayer was actually much more competitive and interesting.
@@louisazraels7072 Nostalgia. Also the 1st game is traditional RTS, the 2nd one is RTT. People who are deeper into RTS will like the latter more, it’s made to be mor skill intensive

I want large scale battles that take literal hours to finish, because you have to carve your way through large enemy bases spread across a very large map. Not everyone wanted the small scale gameplay that DoW II brought to the table. Furthermore, I don't play multiplayer for competitiveness. I play for the 4v4 comp-stomps that conform to the previous statement I made. DoW I and DoW II were made for completely different audiences. Both games have their merits and faults, but to say that DoW I is liked because of "nostalgia" is objectively false.
@@Cowkill Correct. Comparing the two side by side is not really feasible. Comparing dow3 to either is not really possible either. Its like it took the squad sizes of 2, the base building of 1, and then didn't really focus on either. Instead it tried to be what dawn of war never should have been.
Once you play yourself you will realize that if you leave orks alone at all and don't immediately roll them, they will just roll you so hard your heavies will immediately die upon hitting the field. They're ruthless by the 15 minute mark.
If anyone here has played Myth 2 Soul Blighter. Imagine a 40k game where you start the campaign with a limited number of troops. Over the campaign you are given different squads, some will be whipped out and others with rank up in veterancy. At the end of the campaign during the final push you get all of the best units you have left.
Warhammer 40k Armageddon. It's a bit older and turned-based but has some great campaigns and covers Imperial Guard and a few Space Marine factions as they battle the orc invasion. Also, Warhammer 40k Sanctus Reach is exactly like you're describing. It's also turn-based but has great graphics and amazing 3D models. If focuses on the Space Wolves and Imperial Guard as they battle Orcs and the Ruinous Power Daemons.
I realy admire the details of this game and factors on each units when they operates, like imperials knights tend to overheat when firing in long durations. By the way, love those units, those are big bad asses!
They put the most love into the super heavies and it shows. They FEEL impactful. The knight cannon fires and whatever its pointing at is either severely hurting in the case of vehicles, or sprawled out body parts in the case of infantry. Rolling up with the reaper chainsword gives so much life to the knight that it just FEELS GOOD.
I'm a big fan of the way all the factions formations move. For the space marines they move in arrow formations, and set up exact firing lines. Even in melee, they tend to be in formation. Attempting to keep all the foes in one singular direction, to prevent themselves from being overrun. Only really breaking formation when attacking bases. As for the orks, they tend to run forward in big clusters, and fire in jagged lines. And in melee, they run into battle with reckless abandon. Circling around foes when possible, as to stab them from every angle possible all at once. It's really fun to see.
@@commmarine9547 They could have salvaged it if the community hadn't thrown a wobbly and caused it to flop. The issue was balance and gameplay, which could have been overhauled with some small amount of work.
Even though DoW 3 was a mistake, some of those animations looks awesome. Also, if you have never seen the Trailer for DoW 3, you should look it up because it is much better than the game haha.

Most agree. But really each of the 3 games was made for different audiences. 1 tried to be starcraft and did ok at it. 2 was for people who wanted a more micro management heavy squad tactical rts (because company of heroes was popular at this time along with other games like it), and dow 3 tried to be a moba (because that was the "stragegy" game people were playing). DoW 1 CAN be beaten in that 2 and 3 just flat have far better effects, sounds, map design (in the case of 2) and WEIGHT (in the case of 3). the brick shooting of 1 where everyone stands in perfectly straight lines and fires at eachother is monotonous to watch at best and drull at worst. But this is something that is entirely subjective to individual people.
@@sephidude123 DoW3 actually was said to combine "the best" of DoW1+2, but ended as MOBA. But Relic did the exact same thing with CoH3. I don't know, what happened to Relic.
@@sephidude123 Sorry but I could never understand how DoW3 kept getting defined as MOBA? To me it seems just like a very general term for "RTS game I don't like", other than the setting of the defending towers and the power cores, the game leans more towards to warcraft3 than any of the popular MOBA title.
I recommend going term squad for elite units, then building a mass of heavy bolter and lascannon teams because of the zero setup time, it's an unstoppable ball of fun.
Never played DoW3. I'm wondering; how are you able to call in multiple chapters in the same army? I see Imperial Fists and Blood Angels, and someone else.
Honestly, the only reason they failed is because they just dropped the game. If they had put effort and balanced it out, it would have been a success. I was thoroughly enjoying it until I started realizing how much imbalance there was in the game.
@@martialdoctor3482 riiiiight, the game failed because it was imbalanced... Maybe that was the reason you stopped playing, but it's absolutely not what made the player base not care about it and also not what stopped so many people from buying it.
@@Khazar321 Well, yes, it is the reason why I stopped. I had 60 hours in it and then gave up because they didn't balance out all the cheesy, OP units and abilities. And it was still really popular right up until the point that Relic officially said they weren't going to update it anymore. Look at the player count history. It was still at an average of 3000+ the second month; I believe it was the third month in when they announced they wouldn't support it anymore and that's when the player count dropped ridiculously.
It does doesn't it? I feel like it had some great visual effects but sometimes it feels like too much is going on... The amount of abilities that result in troops flying all over the screen together with lack of brutal finishing animations and caetoonish graphics is what turns me away from the game. I could forgive the lore inaccuracies like weird lascannons.
Just look at 12:00 fight. The gun sounds are pathetic, there are mecha titans firing miniguns with barrels the size of artillery cannons and it sounds like... a lawn sprinkler. Some kind of orbital bombardment is dropping explosions everywhere and they have the impact of raindrops.
Relic is doing it to CoH as well. first game was dead serious, second was serious with goofy animations, third one looks like a complete Hobbit if the first two games are LOTR movies. You got my drift

This game was supposed to be like C&C, an RTS like the other games in this franchise (Dawn of Wars) instead they tried to jump onto the bandwagon of DOTA. Since the game wasn't DOTA enough for thse fans and it wasn't RTS enough for the Dawn of War fans, the game didn't gain the DOTA fans and lost the RTS Dawn of war fans. Then the game died and all the expansions and Chapter add ons never came and support died.
Bad? Have you SEEN dawn of war 1? Aside from the dated models themselves, the textures are hardly existent. While you're not getting dow2 fidelity here for model designs, the crafting and care that went into the effects and sounds here especially once the super heavies arrive is unparalleled. It definitely is an entirely different ART STYLE though. I personally preferred the art style of 2 over 1 and 3, but nothing beats the super heavies of 3.
never realized how much of a clusterfuck DoW3 is. Feels like you're just sending in blobs instead of making groups like you did in one. I remember depending on who I was playing against I would some times have two space marine squads with plasma weapons while I have a 3rd with rockets and heavy bolters sit in the back or in a crater for cover

there is a consistent online community with enough players that people still are picky enough to make no noob lobbies, but expect 15-20 minute waits between games and that certain times of day will be empty
I played with when I was young and it was my first time playing a warhammer game. The poster boys were the blood angels so they were the first ones I loved. Years later and heaps of money later, I’ve got one too many and one too little of table tops 🙃
Never played this before and im glad I haven't. Looks dank, Orcs with their little clubs running towards super space marine rangers who's shooting 30 bullets per second wrecking the orcs to unrecognizable standards. You can't call this a "MASSIVE BATTLE". One sided, and 90 % of the units were super space rangers. The remaining 10% were Orks with wooden clubs.

Great battle, the imperial knights are very well implemented in Dawn of war 3! Your videos have made me wanna play Dow3 again! To bad I can't find any competitive games and I play only vs A.I.
The only thing wrong about DoW 3 is they emphasize the hero units too much( I mean there's still more but that is a VERY glaring problem). Fucking terminator armor doing jumping jacks, and heroes alone can fuck up half of your army alone.
The one thing that stuck out to me, or rather Didn't stick out to me, was the troops. No real distinction from anything else. It looked more like small colored blobs. Couldn't see if the units were all the same type or supposed to be different, Maybe make them bigger or up the contrast of the different parts of the units. Other than that, the map seemed really boring, just different colored and super flat. Maybe have small rolling hills or craters that it actually looks like they can take cover in rather this painted on texture.
Ok imo, this game looks amazing. The graphics are really amazing and the fact that they introduced titans is a plus for me. HOWEVER, they just had to fk it up by making it less than dow 1. Combine this graphics + dow1 style base building + UA mod for dow1. Would have been an awesome game
All they had to do was make DOW1 with DOW2's graphics and they'd have sold a ton of units. A shame the game bombed, because it means more DoW is less likely now. Orks Must Die tried a totally new formula, failed, and then came back to make a good game again, so anything is possible I guess.

I think this game fails to capture the sheer amount of orks there are, in the lore, i think they are battling the tyranid right now, and are actually holding their own.....if this game was true to the lore, orks would have squad sizes 10 times bigger.
I really hope they learn from the mistake that is this game, and make 4 the perfect fusion of 1 and 2 that it should've been. Could you IMAGINE DOW 1 scale battles with the graphical quality of 2 or even modern day...
DOW 1 was the best game I ever played. Sadly, when I tried it today it does not feel the same. The graphics quality I remember does not feel the same. If DOW3 was a commercial success, then we could have expected a follow on, but I don't believe that is the case.

I remember DoW 1 watching heroes fighting heroes with finishing moves and tons of blood DoW 3 has no Soul i still regret buying it nevery played a DoW game less then this one.. the titans cannon sounds like a potato canon.
I found it a good game and enjoyed it much. Didnt understand the bashing all in all and it was a shame, that no DLC and additional stuff was tealized etc. For me as a cassual player it was just a little bit confusing how much was going on etc But its ennoyable to see a very good gamer mastering the „chaos“.
Thanks it's good to know for me in video games a major selling point is how moddable the game can be and how actively the community in modifying the game
