That’s how my boss/the guy who I’m learning carpentry from does it most of the time. Like splitting a piece of wood at 90° with the blade halfway up the piece. Like to make some battens or something. Even only halfway up at 1 1/2 inches, or even 2” or 3”, I’m not going there. I’d rather make a quick, thin push stick out of scrap. Even if it gets a little scarred up. Boss is a bit old school, when it comes to some safety stuff, not everything luckily. Also, one of my first jobs, one of the other carpenters on site told me that the table saw was the most dangerous thing there, to respect it.

the storage inside the hollow core door was nice, I would have just used wood, also would have put it hinge side not on the side where you would feel the added weight, and a good fast swing would pop it out flinging your money all over the place. hinge side would hide the opening, the added weight would be near unperceivable and the stuff dangling in there wouldn't move around so much as the door opens and closes no matter how fast you move the door, hinge side will always move slower and the compartment would never fall out due to physics.
@dianeh2420

@@Mikej1592 In every one of the doors in my house, the frame would be in the way. But...only just. It would be possible to change the design so it wouldn't, but the fittings are consistent across the property so that one door would stand out. I suspect the way the frames are built are likely to be regionally different however. Mine are pretty standard in the UK so wouldn't lend themselves easily, but it might be different elsewhere - in fact I'd bet on it. So your doors might be absolutely fine if you're not in the UK. None of us can say you're wrong without seeing the configuration in your particular case. 🇬🇧

I'm not saying that the others are less good , far from it , but as I had to make a choice, vis a vis to myself , I chose this one . Very nice to watch , production hunky-dory . I'm totally in agreement with many of the guys before me. It can look pretty but is it safe? I may know the lay of the land but does the person that comes after me? Use thicker boards on those stairs at least if you can't engineer better support. Maybe even some flat steel pieces bolted on. The space saved by those steps is wasted anyhow so what's the purpose for doing it other than showing a great idea that can be improved on by somebody else? I get it. I'll give you your props for it. I love reading those warnings that include the words "in California". But that's another rabbit hole we don't have to go down.

When you put that type of glue between two pieces of wood, then spray the activator on the outside (not on the glue), how does it work? Serious question. I’ve never used it. I’d think that the activator would need to be sprayed on the glue. Maybe put glue on one piece then spray activator on the opposite piece and immediately put them together. But I have no idea
@jpdub45
@jpdub45 Год назад
what the activator does to the glue is it makes it "kick", which starts a chain reaction in the super glue that moves throughout the glue. Just hitting the edges where the glue squeezes out is often enough to get the glue strong enough to hold for long enough for the rest of the glue to dry, which is only about a minute or two

Such beautiful wood, love the ideas. In my reply to plf... You do know that the 1" plywood is furniture grade which is a lot stronger. 2.5" brass hinges 5.6 to 6.3 lbs per square inch of constant "door" weight per hinge. Extra stability with the closer.. They use this type of step system in tiny homes on quite a few more stairs too. I'm sure there's a lot of structural mathematics and material fatigue stats that will calculate how much each stair and span (distributed weight to tread) and how much strain each hinge material can hold. Also need to figure in the assisted closers. There is assumed liability for he guy so his calculations of materials will hold. He doesn't give extreme details its just a quick demo not instructive details.
