So I guess all of us that come here are part of a weird sub-culture that loves the idea of sleeping in deep-space confined or secluded quarters and cargo spaces with the comforting drone of engines. What is it about it that makes it so delicious? :)

"I'm finally finished with my shift and now I have 4 days and nights to rest and i'm going to stay in my quarters as much as I can,I'll just shut out the rest of the ship as though as I'm a million miles away.... first I get cleaned up, then I get something to eat from my food dispenser let's see what do I want a steak,baked potato,broccoli & cheese,& a grape soda.... afterward I sit back & watch some cyber videos and just relax,then I have a snack before I go to bed some peanut butter cookies and a glass of milk.... now i'm ready to go to sleep, the next four days to rest & relax just hanging out in my quarters here,peace & quiet the rest of the ship outside these doors doesn't exist for these next four days.... so I now say take for care for the next four days,and GOD BLESS YOU ALL;Lt. I like the humming of the engines...its soothing...and the picture is really great..i can imagine myself there..lying in bed..gazing out the window at all the beautiful stars...its relaxing

It’s funny, but I’ve heard this same sound many times in office building large bathrooms that have a lot of tile (after work, when no one else is there to make noise). It’s could be sampled from something similar. That low level hum is probably from an industrial level ventilation system, that echoes through the ductwork. The extensive bathroom tile likely causes an echo that amplifies it (I never heard it in regular offices with carpet). There were many times I was either working late or early and I would listen to the sound when I was in there freshening up. I felt like I was on the Nostromo and the Alien was hiding in one of the bathroom stalls. Very cool, but very eerie.

This reminds me of being far out at sea on the aircraft carriers that I served on. I didn't have a window to look out of from my bed (rack), but I could hear the sound of the carrier like in this video. It could be very relaxing and would put me right to sleep. By the time the flight ops were over is when I would go to bed so i didn't have to be disturbed by the noise of aircraft either.

Stardate...aww who cares I've been stranded on my ship for 8 weeks now, the engines thrusters just kicked the bucket and I've been floating along aimlessly. I sent my SOS beacon but thus far no response. For better or for worse I still have 8 months of rations, at this point I'll sooner die from insanity than starvation. My ships A.I Cally, has been keeping my company but a navigator class A.I only has so many jokes before you've heard them all. It's times like these I miss the old crew, if I make it out alive I'll definitely reconcile with them and maybe one day these old steel walls will be bustling with their songs and jokes again.
