Orbital station would be a good way of storing some fuel as well as creating a secondary place for scientists to be flown out to perform experiments also as a Checkpoint Rest Station before astronauts set sail to and from the moon/mars back to earth. Number of ships could be ~200. Right know it's hard to imagine fleet of 1000+ ships. Imagining a fleet on 250 ships (2050) sounds much more realistic. Well a lot can happen during this 30 year period.
@blaze595
@blaze595 2 года назад
At the moment 3 fights a day doesn't seem viable; but if space infrastructure really gets going then 3 a day may (or maybe more realistically one or two a day) becomes much more doable in the latter half of that time frame. Also there's already plans if/when starship is successful to build a rocket almost twice as big, which will reduce the total rockets needed; not to mention if other companies start really catching up to Space X in that time and start sending their own ships. Might be a little optimistic, but i guess one way to look at it is that Starship, from the materials to the full re-usability, has been designed to be mass produced; and that shows to an extent in how quickly they're cranking out the prototypes. They'll obviously be more work to do on completed versions, but once they've settled on a working design I think they're going to build up a fleet on them pretty quickly; and assuming competition grows to match over time then the number of launches and general activity in orbit/space is going to start increasing exponentially.
@mityaboy4639
@mityaboy4639 2 года назад
The funny question is what happens with the 1000 ship in that window? I mean launch them to LEO and wait? On one of the space X video I've seen that starship needs 3 refuels before it can start the journey towards Mars. So we either cut capacity to allow launch for the tankers or we need an extra 3000 launches to refuel each starship. That's a lot of rockets up and down. So then we start these as they are refuelled? Or park them and start the fleet together? If they are parked then we would need extra launches to deliver food for the parked ones if they are parked for longer than a day or two (we don't want to eat into their rations for the trip) I am not saying it's not possible, but sounds like a logistical challenge

@neverenough5243
@neverenough5243 2 года назад
@@joshcanttakeajoke2853 You went a bit extreme there, but ok. First, i didn't mention anything about the Starship or the engines. I have my full confidence in SpaceX engineers and i know they will do their jobs properly and those engines will be just fine, even tho they have a major task ahead of them. Second, Starship and its raptor engines are still a long way from actually flying towards mars, so SpaceX have a lot of time to make sure their engines will be more than capable for the task at hand. Third, they can lose 1 engine and still be fine (on Starship itself. On booster, they can lose multiple engines and still be fine). Fourth, if you want to sound correct, smart and moral when talking about raptor engines, don't say "turbo pump raptor engines," because it makes you look stupid and childish. Just say raptor engine OR call them by what they are... a full-flow staged combustion cycle rocket engine. I don't want to be rude to you, but next time don't come back at me with a comment that has nothing to do with the topic that i brought to our attention. Radiation on Mars is not a big deal. I've heard this "radiation problem" tens of times during the years by mainstream media. All you need is around 50cm layer of ice or gravel + habitable module itself. If you compare radiation dose on Earth to Mars's. If you spent 2 years on Mars, unprotected from radiation. You'll get all the exposure, normal human being receives during his/hers lifetime. Meaning ~0.6 Sv. We are talking about levels which are absolutely not instantly dangerous. Or even in the longer timespan. Imagine living on Mars for 40 years. Spending 4 years of it outside, 36 years protected. That's only twice the dose every human receives on Earth.

@@k0rpi681 well, as mentioned in my difficulties on Mars, not everything can be fixed , if any.
