I've been thinking this since Sunday. In his career so far he's been deadly accurate with rushers in his face and a porous o line outside of Trent. As this roster gets too expensive to keep I think they'll have to focus on O line instead of so many playmakers and Brock I think has a chance to be just as successful with his accuracy and actual time to throw.

That would be deadly because he is so accurate and smart. He looks like he has a command of what is out there, unlike the going on out there over the majority of the current starting QBs. He just needs time to do his processing and 9 times out of 10 he will make those completions. And they don't even have to have a bunch of pro-bowlers on the O-line. Purdy is already over achieving with a subpar line as it is! We just need a little better players on the right side to give Purdy the time he needs.

Led the league in 20 and 30 plus passing yards this season. That is, passes over 20 and 30 yards. All QBs. He had poor protection this game was the problem.

Yeah that killed me to hear that he was going to basically not allow the over the top pass to Kittle but rather allow the underneath pass to Kittle…which Kittle absolutely punishes guys on those routes for tons of yards after the catch. Nice work on abandoning Kittle as a pass catcher underneath, Kyle.

Remember the year they went to the Super Bowl they beat the Saints in the regular season after Kittle converted a fourth down where he caught the ball behind the line to gain and got the first down after the catch. I can appreciate that the Chiefs have a good secondary but that’s exactly why the 49ers usually do things behind the line of scrimmage, run Deebo or throw screens and make the secondary tackle instead of covering.

Shanahan is the problem. He should kept running the ball and provide mass protection toward stopping Chris Jones from getting to Purdy. If that happen, 49ers win. Shanahan is the problem. Can't allow the refs bail you out like they did Mahomes.

Hopefully, Brock gets more freedom to adjust plays on the line because he sees the defense. Unfortunately, maybe he has a bit too much respect for Kyle.

That's becuase Kyle Shanahan becomes a moron in the biggest moments. Couple that with that fact that he can't adjust AT ALL and you get 3 instances of shitting the bed in the Super Bowl.

Even Purdy mafia has been saying they need more talent on the offensive line. You can act like this is Madden and they can just create those players out of thin air, but in the real world there’s a salary cap they need to work around, and a real draft where they’ll be picking 31st. Good luck getting a franchise OT picking 31st or having no cap space in free agency. They’ve been renegotiating contracts to extend this window, eventually those bills will come due, it’s a hard cap and you can only avoid it for so long. The way to keep a successful team going is to replace pieces through the draft, and the last few drafts haven’t been great. Drake Jackson, Cameron Latu, Samuel Womack, etc they’re getting nothing from these players and those are the kinds of misses in the draft which will hurt you in the long run, especially when you see how good teams like the Lions and Packers have been drafting the last few years.

Yeah let's not act like Deebo didn't have a couple of drops either. Why do people bash him for throwing balls away yet crucify him for trying to make a play that gets picked off. The kid can never do right by these people because they want him to fail.

Deebo was so disappointing in the SB. I just didn’t see that dog in him and his effort was just not there. It’s a recurring theme with him, half ass effort not blocking downfield.. The throw in the end zone for a possible td deebo runs avg speed and does a half ass fake to inside and the db is not phased at all. DB was all over him the whole play.

I actually feel like Trent, Kittle, McCaffrey, Deebo and McCloud under-achieved in the Super Bowl. Whereas Purdy stepped up his focus. They seemed more tight than he was!

@@Dread-HeadedTexan - Their O-Line was ranked in the bottom third of the league in the regular season and yes, it was the same o-line as was in the Super Bowl. Aside from the injury to Feliciano during the Super Bowl where his backup royally screwed up and didn't block Chris Jones.

But, Purdy clearly improved against those defenses since the Cleveland, Cincinati and Baltimore games. The Superbowl was a toss up all the way til the final drive. That bodes well for Purdy and the 49ers next season. I feel great about our chances! And, YES, they need to improve the O-Line as well!

Good point. Year 3 is usually were you know about the QB, and if Brock stays on this trend we’re in good hands. 2 NFCCs, and a SB with a pro bowl and almost MVP. ALL WITHOUT A REAL OFFSEASON and coming off an injury.

They can’t pay him a real contract. If they give Purdy a contract of $30 million or more, they will be lucky to make the playoffs once during that contract. We saw when Trent and Deebo went down the team went 0-3 and Purdy had 6 turnovers in those games. We saw in the Super Bowl when he had 5 pro bowlers on offense he wasn’t able to lead that offense to score 20 points to win. Purdy is a system QB. He needs massive amounts of pro bowl talent around him to succeed and even that’s probably not enough. If they pay Purdy they will have less cap space to put talent around him, and then he’s basically Daniel Jones. I hope they’re smart enough not to fall into this trap just because he’s a nice guy with a fun story, not because he’s actually a franchise QB.

Enough with the excuses. CMC fumbled but Pacheco fumbled too. They had a special teams turnover but Mahomes also threw a pick in Chiefs territory, after which Brock couldn’t get a single first down to move them into field goal range. Brock was under pressure but Mahomes was under more pressure. The excuses don’t make sense because the Chiefs were dealing with the same things, or even more problems. The difference is Mahomes was still able to throw 2 TDs and scramble for 66 yards whereas Brock threw one TD, the same as the 49ers third string WR btw, and only scramble for 12 yards. Brock has 5 pro bowlers on offense and he couldn’t lead that offense to score at least 20 points to win a championship. He showed nothing to make anyone think he belonged in that game. If you like him as a person, or you like the Mr Irrelevant story, that’s one thing, but as far as his actual play, it wasn’t good enough, period. If you think Brock is really that good then you should expect him to be able to score 20 points on an offense with 5 pro bowlers to win a championship. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t say he’s great but then make excuses when he fails, and you can’t say he’s a franchise QB but then also say he needs more than 5 pro bowlers on offense to get it done.

Honestly the Chiefs are better at like 3 or 4 positions. Obviously Mahomes is better, Kelce is better, Thuney is better than Banks, and Sneed is probably better than Lenoir. That’s it. 49ers are better at every other position and yet even with that advantage, Brock still wasn’t able to lead the team to a win. I’m not saying they need Burrow to win. But Purdy is honestly somewhere around 10th-15th best QB in the league, and that’s just not good enough. They need a top 10 QB otherwise the gap is too large to overcome.

He set the franchise record for passing yards in a year, was in the MVP conversation, led the league or was in the top 3 in categories for a QB. Should the offense have done more? Sure, but the defensive play calling on the chiefs last 2 drives was horrible. It was so bad that shanahan had to call a timeout because of the horrible defensive set up. The 2nd 12 call they were like 8-10 yards off the ball and gave up 7 on that play. They should have used more press man coverage and not soft zone coverage.

Nope. If you watch the tape Brock was locking onto one receiver all game, and if that receiver wasn’t open he would panic and start to scramble. He didn’t stand in the pocket and go through his progressions.

Mahomes had Rashee Rice open on their last drive in regulation too but tried a fade to Kelce who Warner had on lock. It was highlighted by Romo after the play was over. That's why I still don't beleive we'd avoid OT even if we get the TD on our last drive. KC move d the ball so fast and got into our Redzone without even using a single TO and our redzone D luckily held up and Mahomes missed a crosser to Rice that would have iced us.

Yes and McDuffie blitzed off Aiyuk so that should have been the easiest read in the entire game. If you watch that play again you’ll see if he threw to Aiyuk he would have been wide open and able to walk for a first down.

The Chiefs won because Mahomes is far better than Purdy. CMC fumbled and they muffed a punt, but Pacheco also fumbled and Mahomes threw an INT, so those turnovers cancel out. A missed extra point? Ffs if Purdy is that good, playing on an offense with 5 pro bowlers, then missing one extra point shouldn’t make the difference.
