Thank you so much. It is my first RU-vid video and was done all in one take. I am trying to make each video better than the last, learning something new every day. I am so thankful for you and everyone who checked it out. Hopefully I can continue to make enjoyable videos and build trust with all you guys. By the way, this week I have planned a SPAM vs ???? That ....well ... You'll just have to watch and see. Thanks
I love Spam, can't stand Treet. Treet has this weird sweet chemical flavor that just doesn't seem right. Thanks for the heads up on Great Value, I will consider picking up some of that.
One of my buddies says TREET makes a good catfish bait. Next time I buy, I might grab a can of Great Value, but I'm definitely going to be buying SPAM %25 less sodium. My wife and I made a video comparing SPAM vs SPAM Less Sodium and SPAM LITE. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WiGOWefjjDg.htmlsi=0Kj-a_-Y4zYO_cGA
It took me seven decades to try Spam and I'm so happy I did. After watching some Spam videos, I decided to try it. I've fallen in love with the Bacon Spam and will be buying more. Had it with eggs and used some to make split pea soup. Love it!!
Probably the same seasonings, just less expensive meat. I used to work for a company that made 2 types of Pimento cheese. One with our label, another with store brand and store brand had more mayonnaise as it cost less to make, making it cost the consumer less. @@OliveDrabAlliance
I love Spam. And not just for camping/survival situations. Though I always have a can in each of my bags. There's a ton of things you can do with Spam for every meal
Spam is cheap by us, it's $2.39 a can all flavors. the store brands have been higher even Walmart. Give me a Diet Coke. I Do not like 99% of the beer that is made here in the US. Today is my Birthday I'm 70 today (10/19/23). I love SPAM,
The odd thing to me is that SPAM was sort of considered a "poor man's meat," back in the day. But even at $4 it would be $5.33 per pound. Even if we said the generic ones were $2.50, that would be $3.33 per pound. Higher than a pound of ground beef, fresh chicken thighs, or even pork steaks per pound. A poor man now would be wise to avoid SPAM due to cost alone. lol
People used to say, oh you poor fella, having to eat SPAM, like you were eating dog food or something.... Makes me worry about the future. Viva La SPAM!!!
To me it’s a special treat once in a while for that reason. I spent time in Hawaii in the military. So once in a while I make fried spam and eggs with white rice. That dish is eaten a lot in Hawaii…..it’s even on the McDonald’s menu 😉
I mean clearly this couldn't be, it's ridiculous. So I looked it up and I see it, the spam morning platter. You have some nerve coming on the Internet and telling the truth! For shame!(thanks for your service!)
Thank you for taking the time to review these canned meats. You are correct spam and great value have same flavor profile but different texture. The great value’s texture firms up when fried on both sides and is delicious for around 1/2 the price as spam I will buy great value every time. For all you prep people you can actually double up your stock with great value for around 1/2 the price of spam and I do not think you will be disappointed.
I 100% agree with your statements. The Great Value is definitely the best bang for the buck. You said it much better that I could have, my hat is off to you sir. Thank you.
Interesting way of slicing the can I only do it so they all look the same round at both ends. I also like mine till it browns a bit I am English Spam guy the first one
Some people slice it "left to right" and get kind of a big square slice. That is how the individual serving packs come. I like to slice it front to back, because two slices like that is the perfect fit for a slice of bread.
Frankly, I don't mind paying a couple of bucks extra for the real Spam. It should be in every emergency pack for everyone in the event of....whatever!! A good backup staple to keep on hand for sure. Thanks for the comparison...I appreciate it.
I have been buying canned ham for less than SPAM. Dollar General sells a Hickory smoke flavor ham that is very tasty. The shelf life is as long as SPAM. I like some SPAM especially diced, fried and mixed in mac and cheese. Maybe the price will come back down some. Never TREET me. Great humor and real life and times in this video. Thumbs up!
I've only seen the full sodium great value brand, but there are other Walmarts in my area that I hear has the lower sodium version. I'm definitely going to pick some up. Thanks
I buy the "Luncheon meat" from Aldi. I can't tell the difference between it and Spam. And its half the price. 3/8s slices 30 seconds in microwave, turn over 30 seconds more and serve with "dippy" eggs and Rye toast. My favorite go to quick breakfast! 😋 I became a large man from large cans of beer. I quit 24 years ago. Went from 246 to 180! Best decision I ever made, just sayin...😉
Just making small talk, and I agree, I drink too much. I've been cutting back a little and believe it or not I've actually lost a little weight before I started youtubing. I have goals to drop more weight. I've gained 20 pounds a year the last 5 years, so my first goal was to stop gaining weight, now I am trying to drop some weight.
I can not forget the occasions when my GrandMother put spam on the dinner table and my Grandparents would retell how things were during WW2. Note that GrandMother still had the remainder of her ration stamps in the family trunk "ready for next time." I do not like these high-sodium, high-fat products. I do keep a few cases on the shelf for emergency because it does store well. The one type of spam I find truly hideous is the tocino flavor. I have no idea if that one is available in the US. Our young troops consider it a big treat and constantly ask for it.
I did a follow up video comparing the regular SPAM to the Low sodium and LITE version. My wife and I both actually prefer the low sodium SPAM. Thanks for watching.
This would have been a great video if you'd taken your time and cooked them all as if you were going to serve them. Put a camera on something for a timelapse. Exactly how much fat cooks out as they are browned. Texture once browned on both sides. Taste is subjective but anyone who has cooked their favorite canned meat much would _see_ the differences in others. I'd suggest doing it again but it's probably not a good idea for you or the dogs.
Right on. I could have done better. I was holding my camera (phone) in one hand and trying to cook and chop with the other. Plus, I was a little nervous as I am new to this. I'm hoping to learn and make better videos in the future. Thanks for watching.
Thank you. I'm very new at this and I am trying to learn something new with each video. This was my first video I made that I held the camera (phone) correctly as in horizontally, not vertically. I am an old man compared to most "RU-vidrs" but I am hoping, my experience and knowledge can somehow, someday come across. I really do appreciate your input, that is how I learn, by people letting me know. Thank you.
@@OliveDrabAlliance , you welcome. When you pan your camera to do a wide shot, do it very slowly so the eyes can focus on the shot. People tend to move their camera too fast, it makes watching the videos harder to watch because you get dizzy trying to focus.
I like Spam, but you're right it's relatively expensive. Over $4 for 12 oz of "meat". You can get a real ham slice for the same price (granted it's waterlogged)
@@OliveDrabAlliance Yep. When I met my second wife I told that our wedding vows will include her promise to love, honor and cook Spam exactly the way I like it.
Man after my own heart! great video! love the 32oz that's what I like to drink. The Spam always wins even since the military with eggs. it's a winnner! Be cool
So impressive! I'd try for thinner more uniform slices... in the name of SCIENCE! The slicing gadget really works. Also it works better to slice "horizontally" for uniform sort of oblong slices, goes in the MUSUBI press!
Anything... For science!!!! But my man!... you have to slice along, or guided by the provided lines. It's the rules, and the rules are important. Hahaha. Thanks for watching & thanks for being a good sport.
@@OliveDrabAlliancelol, wifey and I both recalled it being nasty but I came across a video of how to cook it and now we both like it and are buying the SPAM to store for SHTF.
I bought some TREET years ago and I swore... Never again. When I tasted it for this video it was the first time I had tasted it in year and it wasn't bad. It was different, but pleasant. I have another can in the pantry and I will happily eat it up. I prefer SPAM, but the TREET wasn't bad.
When my grocer was out of Spam, I bought Treet, figuring Armour usually makes pretty good products. Wrong! The best thing I can say about Treet is that if you have a choice of eating that or a bowling ball, the Treet will be easier to eat. Good choice of music and beer!
Several years ago, the dollar general brand was much better than spam, but the product changed and not for the better. Treet has never been any good. The low sodium spam was almost as good as the old dollar general
Too funny. I'll buy the Great Value Luncheon Meat again. Actually they have a low sodium version I'm looking forward to trying. The wife and I both like the lower Sodium SPAM. Thanks for watching.
Agreed, I was shocked the first time I bought one of the Great Value cans. I was expecting it to be garbage and throw it away. But I was very pleasantly surprised that I found an alternative to the name brand. About half the cost.
We made a video comparing SPAM with SPAm Lite and SPAM with less sodium. I will definitely be using the SPAM with less sodium. Check it out... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WiGOWefjjDg.htmlsi=4y2rha9ThNIOg6AQ

Treet is quite nasty. I actually liked the Walmart brand as well if not better than the original Spam. I eat it raw on a sandwich with lettuce, tomato and plenty of mustard. When i eat the original Spam I prefer the low sodium. The price difference between Spam and GV outweighs the slight texture difference. Yum!
I agree. I am looking forward to trying the Great Value Lower Sodium. I like it on a sandwich with a slice of American cheese and lots of mustard. I also like to add a few dabs of Tabasco Sauce.

I didn't know they made a low sodium version. I will for sure look for it. We did a video comparing regular spam to the low sodium spam and spam lite. I liked the low sodium spam very much, so I'm looking forward to the great value low sodium version. Thank for the tip!
It does cost a lot less. It taste much different though. If you are looking for something cheaper, but taste like SPAM, try the Great Value Luncheon Meat from Walmart.
Oh wow.... as an avid griddler, I have to say you're griddle is in disgusting shape. Seriously bro you don't cook on a rusty surface like that. You need to clean your griddle and re-season it Big Time. And I hate to be the one to break this to you but can spam is already cooked. LOL it's not raw.
I know. It's bad, believe it or not, this was done after I spent serious time working on cleaning it. I am not a griddle person (obviously). The Blackstone is not my thing. I kind of just needed an arena for this battle. While I was filming this, I thought the same thing. There is a point in the video when I flip a piece over and you can see how I panned away. Long story short... I hate the Blackstone. And I know SPAM is already cooked.
@OliveDrabAlliance it's similar to Spam but has flavours added so when fried it smells and tastes like bacon I believe it originated in British Army ration packs
I had it years ago and told myself "never again". This last time.... It wasn't bad. I actually picked up another can, it's in my pantry now. Thanks for watching.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WiGOWefjjDg.htmlsi=UKHehnO0NOoq5hVR This is our video comparing SPAM vs SPAM Lower Sodium vs SPAM Lite. Thanks for watching!
Only Spam taste like Spam. All others are either too salty, the texture is different, the ingredients are quality without fillers. Walmart brand although cheap is gross.
I tried it years ago, and I don't remember it being enjoyable, I was almost shocked when I had it this time, because it wasn't bad, it had almost a fruity/apple taste. I might pick it up again. I've got high blood pressure and I need to drop some weight, so I can't have it very often, but I'll TREET myself again.
Tell everyone that all of these are so salty ,almost inedible as far as i'm concerned ,ya see i dont cook with salt i let everyone salt to taste. P.S. SALT. IS NOT GOOD FOR PEOPLE.😮😮😮😮
It is not good. My wife and I made a video comparing SPAM to the lower sodium SPAM and SPAM LITE. We both actually preferred the lower sodium version. Check out the video on the channel and thanks for watching.
I know... I know. Sorry Bud, this was my first RU-vid video, I am learning and improving with each video. I appreciate you watching and your constructive criticism. Thank you.
Next time you are at Walmart, pick up a can of SPAM and read the ingredients. Then read the ingredients on a can of soup. The ingredients to SPAM are, pork with ham, salt, water, potato starch and sodium nitrate (salt).
Every pot has a lid. Maybe this just isn't your thing. I can respect that. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope everything is going well for you.
