I personally think it's either Gaster or Kris speaking through Spamton in that moment, don't need to explain the Gaster one, so I'll just talk about Kris. There's stuff that hint that you [the player] are the person behind the strings, well, at least for Kris, as people around town mentions how uncharacteristic Kris has been lately. While typing this, I just realized a third possibility, the guy that speaks within the code of the game, y'know, those secret dialogue conversations of a person being trapped in some empty void, which can only be found when surfing through the game's files. Well, unless if they're both Kris, but this is just a reply, and I'm not about to ramble on about my theory for eight paragraphs for the next hour, so just fill in any gaps with your own ideas and interpretations.
I feel like so many people forget that Spamton is modeled after an old timey salesman, and instead just give him this overly computerized manic voice. He's supposed to sound unhinged, but also like an actual *salesman.* Alex really hit the nail on the head with the voice.
The line "No I didn't hear anything just now!..." "But it sounded like they were talking to you" has got to be one of the most chilling lines in deltarune
@@AliDoesntWork exactly. It’s like he knows. He knows that Kris is not themselves in that moment, he knows that we’re controlling Kris and that he is, effectively, talking to us.
@@EEEEEEE36364 He knows, idk to what extent but as a puppet himself he seems very aware of the strings of others, multiple times directly referring to kris's strings.
I like how the bracket dialogue isn't just *deeper* or *more robotic* but it sounds riped from random advertisements [at half price] which is how I imagined Spamton would talk
@@bessemmowaket5250 If I understood correctly, Spamton felt that getting the NEO suit would set him free or make him “BIG”, but ultimately he realizes that even that isn’t enough, that he’ll be forever a puppet on strings, played by someone else
The animation is original and good, It just feels all is perfect for this character, even the stop motion look, the voice acting is so good and fits so well that is hard to imagine Spamtom having another voice. Is normal, I've been watching this multiple times mostly everyday xD. Is very well done in general.
Spamton is terrifying because he is in the EXACT same situation as Kris. Somewhere, someone is controlling Spamton just like we do Kris. He is SUFFERING from it, he is aware of his situation, and he knows Kris is too. But with someone else being primarily in control of your own body, it's hard to communicate such a thing.
@@Renatoojusticeiro Not necessarly tho. Gaster could still be very much involved. I belive he is the one that made the connection between us and Kris and is watching it all play out. He might also turn out to be the knight. Or maybe the records in Undertale about his research are actually referencing to the dark world or the deltarune universe entirely. I mean there's at least 8 chapters in planning and we have no idea how the story could turn out. Wether we control Kris or not I'm sure that the story will be very, very interesting.
That pause after he ask "Friends?" hits different, like Spamton recognized that Kris was asking sincerely and is so used to the [Number One Rated Salesman1997] personality that it caught him off guard and made him question if he really wants to use Kris to become a [Big Shot] for just a moment. But of course, if you wanna be a [Big Shot] you gotta be willing to [Go All the Way]!
@Dr.Ramilo he did, but as soon as he became a [Big Shot] he tries to kill Kris and take their SOUL, so I question just how truthful he was being about wanting Kris to be a [Big Shot] too.
@@AlexanderTheAverage10 i think he genuinely wanted kris to also be a big shot with him but when he found out the new body in the basement wasn't enough he got drastic and started acting irrationally because he was so sick of a being a puppet and tried to take kris's soul
@@piern1k336 No. He wanted to help kris. Spamton is a still a Salesman at his core. They live to sell stuff to Lightner's like Kris and Kris kept his deal to help Spamton get the neo body but even with that he was still trapped in the dark. The fact Spamton suddenly could see hos own strings might mean his situation my have actually gotten worse hence his desperation for Kris to give him his soul.
I feel like spamton isn't a joke, rather a manifestation of something that shouldn't exist in the first place. Think about just *how* specific spam emails are. First we need humans, then devices, then satellites, then an email account in the first place, then we need another human who wants to sell something or scam someone, then we need them to find your email and send it. Spam mail is pretty silly as is, Toby made a serious character all things considered
Especially it doesn't say it talks to Kris, but you, the player. It is often used in the snowgrave route that the player himself acts. For instance in the final fight the first time it says: Kris called for Noelle or something but it only works after that when it says: You call for Noelle.
@@ReaperPeeper eww that's so rude! This community is so judgy sometimes, people like you are in every single comment. And then I continue the cycle by engaging in you, so I guess I'm making it worse in a way. But seriously, chill out
"And get on the path to..." "*T H E B I G O NE*" Spamton. G. Spamton - 2022 also he sounded like he was talking to not only Kris but also to the player
i imagine he just starts staring at you as the keygen music fades in and everything goes all psychedelic and then suddenly everything returns to normal
I will let you buy Kegen from me for the [low low price of]. What do ya think, it's that [$#¥#@&£] good! K E Y G E N "80's computer start-up music plays"
The jittery movement mixed with the voice acting makes it endearing, but creepy. It’s like a horror movie. You enjoy it even though you know you don’t necessarily enjoy being scared. This makes me feel uncomfortable, but it’s so good it makes me want to watch it over and over. Also, keep up the good work on your channel! You do some great stuff over there.
The fact that he very briefly uses a normal cadence, emotes normally, and almost sounds taken off guard when he says "Me? Friends?" ... Not sure whether it's scary or sad.
His thought process was probably because of how socially deprived he had become after living in the dumps. Before Kris, what was the last time somebody had stuck around? Who knows
the only thing that makes it seems sus,is that,in my vision,Jevil is supposed to be a jester, not a clown. And i don't think Toby Fox would mix the sense between both words,so... *what if the clown Spamton was refering to,wasn't actually Jevil, but a imposter?* srry i just pulled out some bullshit imagination XD
@ige77 No, its because spamtom just like kris is a "puppet" and when kris saw that when his strings became cut he died they feared what could happen if kri was truly free
@@texugo_branco to be fair we are Kris’s soul. Like or not they need us, the fountains can’t be closed without us, fighting becomes so much harder (Kris tried to fight the King without us and immediately got bodied trying to protect everyone). Kris isn’t fully without will, even when we’re in Kris Kris can move and act in their own. I imagine it’s like in Undertale when Asriel said Chara and him shared control over the body. It’s not just one person in the driver seat and they are literally half a person without us.
I love how he just gets away saying “I didn’t hear anything” and then just says “but it sounds like they were talking to you”. Spamton seems aware but un-aware which really fits his character
After seeing all the clips from TADC and thinking how similar Caine sounds to Spamton and lo and behold, after watching that and rewatching this, it's literally the same VA. Rochon does a great job at capturing this type of exhuberant insanity coated in a larger than life showmanship
It's theorized that he was thrown into the acid lake because he was trying to infiltrate the castle. Apparently, acid has the ability to shrink, hence why Spamton is so small.
i really liked this interpretation too (the square brackets sounding like samples from tv commercials was quite eerie and interesting) check out jerma's voice for him, i thought that was another unique one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_qnLn10br3U.html
@@teguhilhami5894 As a Mike, who used to be seriously concerned that life was a simulation a la the "wake up" creepy-pastas? Yes. This triggers my fight-or-flight response.
So. . . There's a few different things here about that line that tells a lot. So, for ease of reference, let's separate the Spamton into two characters: the insane Spamton, and the lucid G. We know that Spamton is well aware of G, with Spamton's insistence that they didn't hear anything being quickly dismissed by stating that G is speaking to us. And the question is: Why? It could be that Spamton is suppressing G, and doesn't want us to know about him, but that is quickly dismissed as false. G could also be Spamton's true self, being subsumed by whatever malware that makes up Spamton, but. . . why would Spamton offer an out for G, by not only letting them speak out (accidental) but by reinforcing their request (intentional). Maybe Spamton is saying that there's nothing to fear, except being trapped within your own body (making the lucid moment intentional)? But then, again, why deny it, after the fact? None of it makes sense, unless you assume that the outburst, their denial, followed by their assurance that the player wasn't hearing/seeing things? It was all intentional. I think? It was a threat. This could happen to you. This is the thing to fear. And I can make it happen to *you.*
Spamton's Design: Funny little man with pointy nose Spamton's Story: Really dark with a huge amount of cryptic stuff included. Homie's one creepy zoom-in face from being a living analog horror.
This is genuinely unsettling and I love it it captures spamtons character so well I’m questioning if you just ripped his soul out and stuffed it in there god damn
The whole 'Can anyone hear me?' bit always creeped me out, and this just makes it even creepier. Whether or not that's a good thing... well, that's up for debate.
Yeah, the dude possesses MS Paint sketches like a rogue AI, casually warps reality to take his shop background anywhere he goes and managed to take over a mansion in the 10 minutes it takes you to battle Berdly, this dude is scary even without the robot body. Imagine what a Shadow Crystal holder can do when they aren't trapped in a room with three legendary heroes.
“What? No! I didn’t hear anything just now!” “But it sounded like they were talking to you.” God that scene is spinechilling. It shows how spamton isn’t asking help from Kris. He’s asking for help from the player. edit: this is an edit
@@johnnyaugust5015 I've seen people talk about that, but haven't actually found any discussion cataloguing the file messages -- any chance of helping me out with finding em? it sounds neat, and its made me scratch my head for like... 2 weeks now.
see whats sets this apart from other times they talk to kris they mostly eiuther say kris's name or 'them' 'you, kris' instead its just 'you' the player what if that 'calller' spamton got on the phone was like us a 'player' and now they're stuck or maybe spamtons just aware that kris isn't the only one there.
SAME, literally was wondering if i ever heard Caine's voice somewhere, and then i was like : damn, that guy looks a lot like Spamton... Gosh, same personalities, and even same voice !
OMG I AM NOT INSANE! Thank god someone noticed this similarity too! ❤ When I first saw Caine and heard him I felt “I know this character’s voice” and here I am! Happy to see this comment. Now I can sleep peacefully 😂🎉
The fact that spamton is constantly looking away or never directly in the direction of the camera, then when he says they were talking to you, he, for the first time, looks directly at the camera, really goes to show how creepy and self aware some characters in this series are. Spamton is trying to talk to you, but can't so he intead talks to Kris, the vessel. The fact that his voice fixes up a bit and his face becomes more flat just proves this theory more. Its the real reason why characters like, spamton, jevil, and sans are so popular. They are self aware of the players existence.
Sans is a special case, since he actually had research about it. The thing is, for that research to be done, there HAD to be another anomaly before the player. Also, it seems like he thinks Frisk themselves is the anomaly, unlike Spamton that knows there is something stronger in control of the vessel, yet, he also talks to Kris, so he also knows that the vessel still has some freedom while being possesed. He really knows a bit too much.
@@m2pt5 Yeah, but that would mean that sans thinks the anomaly is just the ability to reset, i'm pretty sure that the anomalies are the greater beings able to control the characters, but actually it makes sense, cuz it would explain how sans and his partners were able to investigate resets as a whole
"I used to be nothing but the e-mail guy..." This moment alone, man. There is something so eery and cool about this. A mind of a man, trapped in a broken puppet salesman program, interrupted by brief moments of clarity - and the realization of sheer, absolute terror. I love this.
Likely because aside from just the implications itself it doesn't have the same salesman sort of tone as the rest of what he says but is still in his normal voice. Like rather than trying to convince you to go along with a plan or sell you something like he normally is he's just telling you straight to your face. It would be like Jevil suddenly speaking very normally and seriously referencing something ominous and not in the repeated words and insane way he usually speaks. It's eerie because it's a sudden change from how the character has been established to be that goes away soon after
@@buzzkillmusic Not to mention it explains why Spamton is so much shorter than the other addisons. There was a line from the Queen saying the acid makes you shrink

Chapter 2 has released almost a month ago... and people have made so many memes, fan art, and amazing fan animations like this one. Man, it really shows how much a huge fanbase can produce in such short time... Excellent. Truly excellent.
Wow, the guy that voiced Caine from The Amazing Digital Circus voiced SPAMTON in this animation two years before? Looks like he just has a thing for voicing short, chaotic, digital men
I can't overstate how freakin impressive and cool this is. The way he moves around is just the right mix of cartoonish and grounded in reality. I really liked "I'LL GET SO I'LL GET SO I'LL GET SO I'LL GET SO", "Me? Friends?" and "But it sounded like they were talking to you" the way you caught his facial expressions and glitches so well is amazing
There’s something absolutely stunning about the way Spamton moves here. He’s got the weight and charm of a demented Rankin/Bass character; He’s at once too stiff to be human but far too alive for anything else. Amazing work as always
I'LL GET SOAP I'LL GET SOAP I'LL GET SOAP I'LL GET SOAP I'LL GET SOAP I'LL GET SOAP I'LL GET SOAP -spamton reminding himself of what he went to the store to buy (he's an absolute mess)
Just realized the "It burns" line isn't a funny gag, but most likely Spamton himself screaming as he's thrown into the acid. Just can't help but feel bad for the poor guy really
I love how people can fill the void of a pixel game like this. You know you imagined like this, but you can't create it, so it's in your head. I love people who can bring stuff like this to reality. Great job!!!
This makes me so sad. He’s trying to escape his life and he wants something greater and better. What tops it off is the amazing animation, it becomes more and more in character for him. Props to you, you’re so talented!
//spoilers It gets even more depressing after fighting Spamton NEO If you fight, he says "ARE YOU GETTING ALL THIS MIKE!?" Before defeat And If you spare the cutscene looks straight out of a creepypasta
This is literally, and I don't say this lightly, the single most incredible Undertale/Deltarune-based fanwork I have ever seen. I've been around since Undertale dropped back in 2015 and literally? Nothing tops this, holy fuck. This is incredible work.
I really love that brief look of vulnerability when he's asked about friends. It's so much more nuanced than the wacky screams and glitches he does that steal the show, but it goes a long way to show the types of pain he's in. You really knocked this out of the park! Thanks!
I love this model, not only does it show they're actually a puppet, but it also shows withering and damage from being in the garbage for so long. i love how at the end spamton stares directly at the viewer as if he was talking to us (just like the original game hes hinting towards the player) but maybe im just far-fetching that was just a great detail i noticed and it feels very direct and real
0:57 Oh my GOD I LOVE THAT STATIC EFFECT- the way Spamton subtley seems to remember something, and suddenly the background completely darkens on him as his eyes goes static. It's terrifying and I love it.
Spamton is aware of his situation, the Spamton we talk to is not the real Spamton. The real Spamton is when his eyes go to static. THAT is the Spamton that sees, feels, and understands. Everything else is just the result of his boss/guy who made him a [[big shot]] not being able to stop controlling him. thats what I think anyway
Clearly, since after you spare him during the pacifist secret boss fight he realizes he can't escape his strings binding him and cannot receive the freedom he has always wanted, and regains his sanity somewhat, since he no longer speaks in butchered/confusing sentences and speaks in a normal font right before he adds himself into your inventory. It's really sad, that we can't do anything to help him or give him his freedom :( we can't end his suffering, but it kind of gives a realistic effect in a way, you can't just magically help people and get a good ending, sometimes those people can't be helped and there's nothing we can do about it but feel sorry for them. It's miserable, but that's just how it is, that's how life is sometimes, why is it like this? I have no idea, but unfortunately this is how it plays out.
@@nadiapro_3452 Yes this made me sad, realising that I, the player, had no option from the start to help him as Spamton had no option from the start to save himself. Maybe the best thing to do is taking him with us and waiting for Chapter 3 to bring a solution.
My theory is that [hyperlink blocked] actually translates to freedom or something close to freedom and the being preventing him from speaking isn’t another character but toby fox himself trying to stop everyone in his games from gaining sentience
@@Azachor same trying to stop him from talking since he probably has something to do with gaster and gaster doesn't want his identity or anything revealed

i tried looking through the comments but couldn't find anyone mention this (its more than possible someone did but i simply couldn't find it), but the part about him saying they were already [friend request accepted]. right before that though. "me? friends?" it was only 2 words, but the way alex managed to tone it make it sound like spamton was genuinely shocked at an actual offer for friendship that it briefly snapped away the salesman persona stringing him along, before those strings clenched back down on him to take it back to his sales pitch, only to slip HIMSELF up by mentioning mike
Dude, holy shit this is SOOO well animated! Not only did you nearly perfectly get the 1:1 on his sprites (the pupils could've been a LOT more beady during *THE BIG ONE* & the "they were taking to _you"_ parts), he shifts between them so seamlessly. Until he just snaps to a new frame like he does. The model looks almost perfect in every way. Weathered to show how literally down in the dumps he is, & he looks far more like a puppet than he does in game.
His movement reminds me a lot of the bunny from Hoodwinked, a lot of eye movement and sharp turns. It's almost nostalgic and really puts you on that edge between being utterly creeped out and yearning to see something familiar amongst the chaos.
Three ways to view it: Random quality for those who don't care. Your 240p for the true experience. Then watch it in 1080p and marvel at the smooth high-resolution of Spam
initially watched this at the 1080p but after seeing this comment I watched it in 144p and wow it really feels like some forgotten found video found from a dead 90's forum site
they way spamton's voice at the end sounded after he sort of "blacked out" makes me think he didn't ask for help. it was Mike. and he wants you to help him.
Well the thing is that the part that was asked for help isn't actually a part of that sentence, after he says Mike he screams that Mike is a criminal, and when you ask him about fear that's when he says that line, so the two are separate.
I love how in the scene he says "WE DON'T NEED [easels] OR [CRTs]. WE DON'T NEED ANY [man, women or child] [At Half Price!]" He's so expressive in his movement yet stands completely still when he says the bracket dialogue, almost like he shutted down. Really creepy and cool-looking Also, I swear at first I thought this was Stop motion. That's how good the lighting and textures are
