I have a newer filly probably 60's NOS when I got it and it's my favorite razor shaves are unbelievable

Dr. Matt honed my #13 Filarmonica and it is an awesome razor that provides a great shave! Today I received a new NOS 13/16 Japanese Parker 567 and I'm here to tell you it ranks right up there with my Filly! Great video Dr. Matt; you da man when it comes to honing!

+Mark Dayoc Thanks again Mark. Someone here asked if I tried a Japanese steel razor and I have. They are very hard steel and are capable of holding a very refined edge. I thought the comfort wasn't as good as this Fili though. In all fairness, the only razor I haven't tried that I've heard really good things about are the Sweedish Heljestrand razors.

I tried recently a Filarmonica #14 thanks to your video and it is superb🔝 : takes a fantastic edge, edge retention is excellent (still pops arm hairs at mid air after a full shave) and global construction is of high quality. But the most notable thing about my Filarmonica is the extreme comfort that it gives while shaving maybe depends from the double tempering it should give a finer grain structure at the steel. They should also be forged😁🔝 but I am not sure. Definitely one of the best razor worldwide. Sadly not easy to find, it would be nice to see the reborn of the brand with high quality standards: forging, multiple heat treatment... all the good stuff. For me it is a tie with my stellar Böker super hard to tell which is superior, maybe it is about personal preference in this league.

I have the same razor, but with the Imperial stamp instead of Filarmonica.

Dr. Matt, How do you fix the wobble on filis? A video would be great as I went to check my filis (making my own seven day set of them) and the three I pulled out randomly had the high spot on one side. I do rolling X's on all of my razors, so shouldnt that fix the high spot on one side?

@@drmatt357 they shave great, but I have one that was exceptional and haven't been able to get it back to what it was at one time: thinking the wobble might be the problem. Far and away filis are my best shavers. I have a very tough beard and the wife says it feels like steel wool on her skin. I've tried W&B's, Customs, etc. but never been able to get as great a shave as with my old first gen filis.

@@josephquijas - if it works fine or at one time it worked fine, leave it alone. Onece you put the spine wear on it, can’t be undone and it will lower the value plus if you’ve never done it, it could be disastrous. I mean if it were a Gold Dollar or a Dovo I’d say go ahead. Try some other sharpening g techniques. How long have you been sharpening your own?

@@drmatt357 I've been sharpening straight razors for ten years: sharpening tools (chisels, plane blades etc. as a working carpenter for more than 20). I consider myself having a great eye when sharpening: can't believe I missed the wobble or the high spot! Kudos to you and your expertise. Ill enjoy it the way it is. Thanks to you for what you do for this hobby!
