Today 115 years ago was born Alexander Alexandrovich Morozov . As the technical lead of the project together with M. I. Koshkin and N. A. Kucherenko headed development of the medium T-34 tank in 1940. During the Great Patriotic War, he was the chief designer of upgrades of the T-34 tank, which was recognized as the best tank of the period of the Second World War.
The STG-44 certainly inspired the AK-47 - the Russians were in no doubt that a large magazine select fire rifle with an intermediate cartridge was needed.
@@johnnyz1781 And the Germans started field trials in 1942 with the MKb-42. The StG changed names every six months (MKb-42(H) => MP-43 => MP-44 => StG-44 => StG-45 - all are variants of the same gun). The STG-44 was merely the definitive volume production variant and is still in use today (a vast pile were shipped to Syria by France in the late 1940's). The StG brought the concept of a large capacity magazine & select fire to a weapon with a MUCH longer range than a submachine gun and more portability than the squad machine guns all in a cheap pressed steel package. The addition of InfraRed night sights added to it reputation.
T-14 Armata has a diamond blade chainsaw for clearing obstacles. In conjunction with it's vertical take-off and landing, super cruise, stealth and invisibility cloak it is more than a match for any western "tank," just ask any Russian.

The old Soviet favorite song, "Tri Tankista" (from the hit film "Traktorista") gives a nod to the "Samurai" of the Kalkin River region. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0QOO3UWU98U.html You can hear the word yourself, whether or not tih govoreesh po Rooski.
That movie is worth a watch, btw. It's extremely well made, well written, and well acted. And 1st rate pro-soviet propaganda. By the standards of propaganda, it is a perfect example of genre and probably the best ever made.
how could armour piercing be used against mg nests?. my understanding of ap is that, the ap shell penetrates armour of course the calibre of the shell will penetrate roughly about similar amount of armour so how could a mg nest be knocked out would the shells be tampered to a degree that they'd explode (replicate the process of penetrating the armour) and triggering the little fuse?
this was reality not a game. If someone shoots in your direction with a rifle, you will very likely flinch, cower or run. Now if someone shoots a cannon at you, it gets worse and just a "hit" next you with an AP shell is scary as hell.
@@podemosurss8316 if AP shells cannot penetrate sand, neither can HE or APHE? (im thinking small calibre, hand-held weapons here. My guess is any tank shell can penetrate any mg nest protection)
im WELL aware this was real life not a game im just buffled with my limited knowledge of armour piercing and really so when if no was injured or killed just the near miss was enoigh to make them think twice huh neat
In the Spanish Civil War, Soviet tanks were the biggest dogs on the block. However, they tended to be deployed as platoon or company-size units, so while they achieved impressive local results, they were never really used to their full potential. Many were destroyed or captured by infantry in the towns, where their large size made it difficult to maneuver on ancient, narrow streets. Italian tankettes, on the other hand, could navigate in those confined spaces. Interestingly, after the Spanish Civil War, some Soviet military specialists thought that the Italians were more forward-thinking in their armored doctrine. See "Mussolini's War in Spain", p. 234.

For day-to-day combat operations, as seen from the Russian and Spanish Popular Front viewpoint, "Voyna v Ispanii. Khronika Boevikh Deystviy 1936-1939" (War in Spain. A Chronicle of Combat Actions 1936-1939) is quite excellent. www.ozon.ru/context/detail/id/28800926/
@@patrickcloutier6801 I have a different edition of "Grazhdanskaya Voyna v Ispanii" so the page numbers don't match up, but can you tell me which chapter these comments are in? I can find no mention of superior mobility of Italian tankettes or praise of Italian tank doctrine. In fact the book states exactly the opposite: Italian tank doctrine worked well only against troops that had already been beaten, fighting against functional defenses resulted in poor performance.
