The Seekers are an Australian National Treasure that had many international and worldwide musical hits, were contemporaries of the Beatles and the Rolling stones sharing the British pop music charts with them and even replacing them at Number One at times in the swinging sixties. The Seekers have also released hit singles and albums in every decade from the sixties through to the 2000s. Their concert in Melbourne during the 1970s still has the highest attendance numbers for any concert ever in the Southern Hemisphere. Many Australians believe that this song should be Australia's Official National Anthem as it is already an unofficial National Anthem for most Australians. The male lead singer was one of the two joint authors of this song.

They are an Australian group singing about Australia's historical human beginnings and our multicultural nation today. This song is like a second national anthem for Australians. They were the most successful Australian group in the sixties. They had number one hits in the United Kingdom, the US and Australia. They even displaced the Beatles at the top of the music charts.

You just heard the voice of the angels, lady! Judith Durham could out sing any woman on the planet in her prime, which is why she was regarded as an Australian national treasure. No purer voice will I ever hear, until the angels call me. I will know it when I hear it. Peace to you.

"I am, you are, we are Australian" This is an Australian band singing about being Australian. What part of this reminds you of America? They are singing the history of Australia. > First part is about the first Australians, the native people who were here. >Second part is about the convicts dumped here by Brittan. >Famous people such as Albert Namatjira, a native painter; and Ned Kelly an infamous bush ranger/outlaw. >The Gold rush, the depression. I suggest looking up each part as a video to react to so you understand the song a little better.

You need to look into American history if you can’t see the similarities. We were both occupied by a first people’s, we both were penal colonies, our native peoples both achieved great things within white society, we both had bush rangers (outlaws), we both had gold rushes, we both struggled to farm back in the day, we were both colonies of England.😅

Speaking of Paul McCartney, the Beatles and Seekers were contemporaries. Not only were they both around in the 60s, the Seekers also recorded in Abbey Road studios, coming from Australia and being among the first recording artists many people might still remember who "made it" in the UK, or USA with some other bands. This song is like an unofficial Australian national anthem too, and there are a few songs like that. Another Aussie band from the 60s, the Easybeats, had a hit song, Friday on my Mind, that's worth listening to, along with some other Seekers songs, and many others, haha. Great reactions!

The Seekers were an Australian band who were also globally successful, including the US. This song was written by the male singer, and the concert was part of their farewell tour which also celebrated their 50 years together as a band. After the opening night Judith Durham, the female lead, suffered a brain haemorrhage that left her unable to read or write, but, as you can see, could still sing like an angel; she also had a lung disease that would eventually kill her. The song itself is about Australia, from the Aboriginal man in the first verse, to the prison ships from Britain who became the first white settlers. Judith’s verses recognise Australia’s respect for the land itself, before Bruce sings about cultural icons in Australian history, and the whole theme of the piece is that most Australians, with the exception of the Aboriginal peoples, are from immigrants old and new they are all Australians despite their ethnic and cultural differences. I would highly recommend you maybe read a little on Australian history as it might help you enjoy this magical song even more.

They are Aussies, with British ancestry. If the Aus National Anthem was to be changed, this song would be my choice. It embodies the origins to the present day. To my way of thinking it brings all together as one to live, breathe and love the country. Spanish Girl says it sounds like American. We are one, we are many and from all the lands on earth we come. I first heard the live performance of this fabulous all embracing anthem in Sydney in the early 90s. Very stirring and true in its message.

Dear girl how can you say American after all that? They are 1000% Australians. An Australian pop group from the 60s who once knocked the Beatles from number one on the charts. You need to search for the song, "Georgy Girl," played at the Myer music bowl in Melbourne to a record crowd of 200,000 people, a record that has never been broken. They are young and Judith Durham, the lead singer is pretty and uses that powerful voice to perfection. Cheers🇦🇺🦘
