WEPA!! I was born and raised in P.R. I joined the US Army and at my first duty station I met some Mexicans and I was sooo happy to speak with someone in spanish until they spoke to me and I was so confused. I told them to speak to me in English because I could not understand them. LOL... I did grow up watching El Chavo and Chapulin ( Who didnt?? ) Anyways... I was like... Loco... hablame en Ingles porque yo no te entiendo! LOL... Ive been here in the States for over 25 yrs... actually I live in Texas and yes, I do understand their slangs!! Viva Mexico y Puerto Rico!!

As a Puerto Rican, I have always had troubles understanding Mexicans speaking Spanish lol. It just sounds different. Funny thing is my Mexican friends say it’s weird how I speak Spanish and they can’t understand it sometimes lol.

Solo tienen que ver las telenovelas y series de Netflix Mexicanos y aprenderán. Pero es verdad, tienen una jerga allí amplia. He vivido en Mexico y conozco algunas palabras pero no todas. Casi nadie nos entiende en el Caribe porque hablamos tan rápido y cortamos tantas letras jaja

How is that funny *?* It's to be expected. Same language but from two different nations, colonized differently. A lot of Mexican Spanish is derived from Indigenous languages. You guys have West African influences. Mexico & Colombia have the Spanish that is closest to Spain. 🇲🇽🇺🇲✌🏼~

@@sarahd.gonzalesbaby6660 In Puerto Rico we have a lot of Taino words too, Boricua and Borinquen being the most known. But yes as Mexico was one of the central administrative locations of the Spanish empire in the America’s it’s Spanish maintains certain similarities to how Spanish evolved in real time mainly influenced by the Toledo influenced variety accent/grammar/colloquialisms. Puerto Rico being more remote during the colonial times maintains many older forms of Spanish, particularly from when the Andalusian (Sevilla) variety was the prestigious one.

I was lucky as a kid I grew up around Puerto Ricans as a teen I grew up around Dominicans as an adult I’ve worked with Venezuelans, Mexicans, Dominicans, and picked up on a lot of slangs my closest friends are Mexican too so that helps

Major differences between Spanish speaking people from the Caribbean vs from central America to begin with for many reasons. Seems like a majority of Mexicans and other central Americans have largely ancestry of these Native Americans from that region with much of this native ancestry mixed with European ancestry. Puerto Ricans look mostly European, African or a mix of European and African. I saw in Wikipedia that the average height of men in Mexico is 5'7" with the countries south of Mexico having an average height shorter than Mexicans but with the Puerto Ricans the average height of men is 5'11" according to Wikipedia. That looks about right because I see tons of Puerto Rican men 6'0" or taller making me feel short around most Puerto Rican men at 5'7" but around many of these central Americans I feel somewhat tall around them on average.

lol I'm a 5'6" Puerto Rican and I feel like an absolute midget in Puerto Rico. I need to visit Central America to see what it feels like to be normal-sized for once.

@@Jonmad17 central America and for atleast the southern half of Mexico you won't feel short. In northern Mexico most men are 5'10 to 5'11" or average in northern regions of Mexico. These Mexicans are taller for 2 reasons. One being that this area of Mexico has many more Mexicans of European ancestry then in southern Mexico. Plus the native American Mexicans in northern Mexico are much taller on average then in southern Mexico and Central America. Most native American tribes in North America were taller on average vs Europeans in the 17th, 18th and 19th century and in the great Plains taller then European Americans in the mid 19th century by 4 inches or 10 cm. Mexico is in north America but the southern area feels like central America because they look much more like the people in these central Americans countries then the Mexicans in the northern regions of Mexico.

You got me on Ghangarro.Never heard of that one.I got almost all the others.Aguas is more known in Puerto Rico than you think.A lot of Ricans kno w what it is,also we say canon o pronounced canyon.Esta canyon.
