I think its Tom all the way. He has this song in Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards Album. Kathleen has written the lyrics but I dont doubt that Mark did something to it..
Savannah Sprinkle try some late Tom Waits like Bone Machine and Real Gone, this cover doesn't depart too far from TW's style. Also Beck has a couple of songs that sound just like this on Mellow Gold

Nobody is making real art anymore. Something that evokes, promotes, or invokes some sort of emotion. Which this doing always did, along with any Mark Linkous material. But now seeing the video along with it is reminding me of Jack Stauber who makes amazing material like this regularly. His music style is different but still very good. RIP Linkous.
Well, Adam Jones's animations were inspired by earlier films by the Quay Brothers (the animators of this video). Check out the short film "Street of Crocodiles", "This Unnameable Little Broom", or their videos for His Name is Alive.
Most everything produced by "The Brothers Quay" is pretty wild but this piece is short, and may have been done on a tight budget. It's a mark of distinction nonetheless.
