Always a treat to listen to you guys ❤ “Latte” is by far their best work since “Exotic Creatures..”. Unlike most Sparks fans I didn’t enjoy the Hippo album that much, Drip was way better but “Latte” my God.. this is a total masterpiece! ❤😊 I hope Paul’s predictions about Sparks future endeavours are correct. They are so worthy of an international mainstream success. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sparks can somehow squeeze another quarter of a century out of their career in some form or another. These guys are out of this world ❤🙏😇

Wow, just listening now gents as it popped into the feed. Fascinating chat as always. Lightbulb moment: you mentioned The Toughest Girl In Town. Is the girl in question pop music itself (the other girls being other genres)? BTW if you ever want to deep dive into N1IH and TJ (with a side order of Noel), I'd love to chat sometime! There's so much to be said about these albums, from the songwriting to the production to their profound influence on music.

I think I have someone lined up for two hands and possibly the Noel album which is definitely something I want to do soon. Which one most interests you though - and if it's the Noel album we might be able to do that together or with someone else. I love the fact that you are volunteering to be on the show that is what I live for! :-)

"Defined" ,and It doesn't have to be this way hit me like a 2x4 when I heard them. I was going through self doubt with my art for I do not follow the norm when I paint and made me realize it is ok to be the way I am... just me but I agree with Monte....Gee that was fun..Is not a finale but a hint of reinventing themselves.... as the ad says "But wait..therer's more..." In whatever it is they choose to do, I really can not see Ron and Russell "retiring" True creative people no matter their age, never truly retire.. Too much a part of them. great interview !

I have been a huge fan since 1975, I have met them 5 times in London and Stockholm. The more I listen the albums and try the analyse the songs, the more of an enigma are the brothers.

fully agree. One thing I'm realizing more and more is that since they do not discuss their own perspective of the music all that much, they really touch a lot of folks in different, and highly personal ways.

Fascinating discussion. For my money, Latte and Exotic Creatures are two of the weakest, most unengaging albums of their entire career, and this chat hasn't persuaded me otherwise, but I could listen to you guys talk Sparks for hours! 👍👍

I've a feeling that this is their last 'standard' album. The mix of musical styles and lyrical content strikes me as almost a retrospective of their musical career and there's just too many allusions to presenting a persona, leaving and change as well as the theme of trying and failing. It seems to me that they're going full circle back into cinema with "Annette" being the first step. After their first couple of failed attempts, they finally pulled it off and finished a film project. Ron has recently mentioned again (in the notes for the CD) the hope of making "Ingmar" into a full animation film. Their next announced project is X-Crusior and they've just been working with Max Richter. Hope that wall of text makes some sense!

You and I are thinking along the same lines. The great thing is that I think interesting things are ahead which is a pretty amazing thing to say given where they are in their career!

I am familiar with 19 of their studio albums and think The Girl is crying in her latte may be the tour de force. Sparks, unlike so many bands, are not past their prime. I wouldn't be surprised if they topped this one. Great discussion, as always. Isn't that a Veronica Lake archetype on the cover?

that sounds like some excellent listening for sure. Didn't get to do much listening yesterday. When I do lately, it's usually one of my Latte-related playlists. I actually have a lot more thoughts about that album, going in many directions!! :)
