I got this after seeing this video and I love it. The one I got came with a set of your check pins and they are a real challenge. Your check pins are simply beautiful to look at and they add another level of difficulty to this already fun challenge lock. I got into locksport after watching you, LPL and Bosnian Bill's videos. But you have been a real inspiration to start making my own picks and pins. I ordered some of the sparrows diy pics to start with, but what do you use to make pins?
Just a perfect explanation of this new Sparrows product. You and Bosnian Bill have got to have an IN with Sparrows. Lol I ordered one the morning it was released. And was told it was already back ordered. 😶 Great GIVEAWAY as well. This will make someone's Christmas season special. Kudos buddy, and happy picking!!!
I ordered one just after Bill's video was posted. Just got it today in fact, of course like an idiot I forgot to order anything with it to save on postage. (Not interested in this giveaway, thanks.)
SnarkyPosters Nice!! Kimda... Still you got it in and that is postal Christmas!! I got mine in today... got the reload kit as well... Will make for an awesome Christmas package GIVEAWAY!!! Happy Pickin Buddy!!!
Looks a very nice multi pinned lock. With the extra and varied pins it really does appear a brilliant lock to pick. Last but not least..well done on a brilliant picking job. Well illustrated and display of pins within. Thanks.
Another great and informative review, thank you! Now I have a reference clip to refer to when I am humiliated by this lock. I completely agree that the revolver, the reload kit and the cutaway lock containing check pins is the perfect Christmas present- well, that's what I ordered for myself anyway...
Yea. I bought the reload kit a long time ago. I've gotten to the point where I have a complete pinning kit and a key cutter but it got me started. I highly value the pinning trays. They are all I use. They are small and easily carried in a draw string bag for example. I'm looking at the Revolver because I've been taking a few locks to the rehab place where I sit with my wife for a long time. I've got a number of locks but having one that can be pinned up different seems handy. New toy, or be frugal and use all that I currently have.... Hmmm.
Another great video lock noob, this does look like a great present for Christmas, sparrows have really spent time thinking about this and it’s great all there products are designed to work together
Good review. Looking at a number of practice locks, cutaways and acrylic, I think this is the best route for the money. I think this and a decent beginners collection of picks, should keep me busy and learning for a while. For much less than my original plan.
Great review :-) That little gizmo would keep me working for a long, long time and as I've already got the reload kit I'd eventually be able to use it as a six pinner. Many thank's for all your hard work Lock Noob :-)
Thanks for reviewing this! Look like a neat idea. Oh, BTW everyone else in the comments for this give a way said to just go ahead and give it too that nice "Gantry" fellow!
@4:20 "why don't you get some chess pins and really mix it up..." lol Ironically, I ordered the revolver and chess pins yesterday. And when I read that the Medusa was designed by you, well, I had to grab it too. As always, excellent video Sir.
Oh wow, that is just what I need! I do have Sparrows' reload kit and cut away lock with chess pins (which are incredibly hard for me) and that revolver would really come in handy when trying to learn art of lockpicking. Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky this time!
I am having problems picking this lock CCW. Having problems feeling the pins binding (pins mostly springy). Have tried increasing tension. Sometimes the core acts like it wants to false set even with all standard pins. Emailed Sparrows and they said it should be pickable CCW. Please try yours to see if CCW picking is possible. I have no problem picking all 4 locks with 6 pins going CW. The key turns both directions with no problem.
They are absolutely possible both ways... try picking just one pin stack and see how it feels. Also make sure your tension tool isn’t stopping the core from turning
@@LockNoob Ok guys & gals...I have resolved my problem with not being able to pick my REVOLVER CCW. I removed all of the pins from the opposite side of my #1 lock which is the bank of serrated/standard pins. I was then able to pick my #1 bank CCW with no problem. It looks like the sharp edge at the bottom of the core/keyway was restricting the tensioning by the pins grabbing on the sharp edge. I then removed the core and champhered all of the sharp edges from both sides of that grove. Put it back together and picked it CCW with no problem. (All of the pins in all 4 banks had been reinstalled) The video by Been Pickin shows how to champher the grove. Here is the link to his video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3N9fqiPDFOM.html I have not been able to pick the other 3 banks in the CCW direction but am now optomistic.
I know the give away for this was some time ago but it's still my go to item for learning, it's a amazing item and thanks again for the give away locknoob
Hi Lock Noob, actually had to watch this a second time. I bought this item and could not pick it. Seems like mine is worse off then yours is on the apposing pin problem. I notified Sparrows about it and they said if the key works it should be able to be picked. They also said to take out a few pin to make it a easier pick. I actually took out all five pins (#1 row) and still could not get it to turn with a tension bar. Works great with the key but not a tension bar. So then I took out all the pins from all 4 chambers to inspect. Everything looked good, but I did find they gave two rows of sarated pins and no mushroom pins for the 4th slot. (QC needs to be improved). Reinstalled all rows, worked great with the key, but again a no-go with the tension bar. The apposing slot is binding with the barrel. Thanks again for a super video.
Jim Bailey are you tensioning TOK (pin side) or BOK (away from the pins)? It is easy to bind the tension tool against the lock body if BOK, making picking impossible. I use a prybar TOK, to get around this
Jim Bailey another couple of thoughts. Does the plug turn freely when there are NO pins or springs in the lock? If not, you can adjust the collar at the back of the plug. Also, even if the driver pins are blocking the keyway from the underside, it should tension anti-clockwise even if it doesn't clockwise. Failing that, tension TOK then before picking, rake the pins at the bottom to set them if they are bound and carry on as normal :-)
Thanks again. Yes with all the pins out, it is super free. very easy to turn. I tried it counter clockwise also with no help. I have tried to rake the pins before, but will give that another try and see if that helps. I just ordered a tool to pull the barrel out and I am going to check to see how wide the slot is on the opposite side, maybe mine is wider then the pins and there falling into the slots (just a thought). I know I am new to this, and still learning, I have about 60 different locks and have picked 50 of them, (the other ten are buggers), and this one should be super easy. Hehehehe. Thanks so much again. Have a super day.
Lock Noob, you are fantastic. I was raking the pins on the bottom then apply the tension. I did it your way by applying tension then raking the bottom and it works perfect. You could actually feel it move when the bottom was raked. I took my 2 power eye piece and looked real close and you can see where the bottom pins were hung on the slot. By doing it your way, it cleared the pins and I was able to pick the first and second row. now on to row 3 and 4. You are the best. Thank you so much for taking the time to help. :)
Looks like a lot of fun! Thank you for the detailed review and also including the re-pinning kit as well. Only other thing that you could've added for a complete noob (like me) is what Sparrows Pick Kit you think would be appropriate or recommended. Thanks again and also the "Spoilers" warning was very thoughtful.
This is by far my _favorite_ lock. I've got one with all *Chess pins* and one with all *Ammunition pins* and I plan on getting a third to load with various combinations of security pins. Or if they make the *Scrooge pins* this year, I'll use those. The only way I could love this gadget more is if they made a 6 chamber one or a 7 pinner.
recently got mine and was wondering how to remove the core (for repinning ) without any special tools for the back screw (nut? not sure what its called)? the pin keeps getting in the way
Hi, wonder if you can help me? I got my revolver this morning, and all seemed fine. On my very first attempt- I opened the first standard position (which I really shouldn't have been able to do- maybe just lucky) So I CAREFULLY removed pins 4 and 5 to start at 3 pins. I then turned the lock with the key and at 180 degrees it locked solid and just wont move from there. There's nothing in the keyway- I can see all the way though. the key comes out , but the core is jammed solid! Any advice befer I go through the hassle of returning it?
So did you remove the key pin driver pin and spring from each position (4 and 5)? If you only removed the key pin or driver pin that can lead to jams. The other thing that can happen is the driver pins enter the bottom of the keyway and just need pressing down with a tension tool handle or back of a pick. Either way, maybe just remove all the pins from all chambers and rebuild
@@LockNoob Hi- thanks for replying. JM told me to strip it all down which I have done tonight- and will rebuild tomorrow (fingers crossed) Thanks again- cheers
Great video, as always! I would really love to get this, I started with paperclips 4 months ago, graduated to homemade picks, and finally a gift from my brother that was some Sparrows picks. I am addicted and pick everything in sight. This would give me the option to change things up and not worry about finding locks. By the way, VERY NICE JOB on the pin design you did! When I get the money to get some practice locks, I will for sure be getting a set of those!
Nice video lock noob. I recently ordered the sparrows progressive practice locks in the Black Friday sale and think I may have bought a turkey a few weeks too early 😳 keep up the good work my friend 👍
Wife said no Christmas is coming. Hope lock noob brings it too me early. Love this idea as I have only practiced on pad locks. Thanks for the opportunity.
