In this screencast, learn how to use the spatialsample package to understand #TidyTuesday drought in Texas, and how it is related to other characteristics of TX counties. Check out the code on my blog: juliasilge.com/blog/drought-i...
You're a Goddess walking amongst us mere mortals. This is directly related to something I'm trying to do at work and you have just saved my life (and holidays!). Words can't express how grateful I am for your content.
Great content! I always learn something every time. This time it was by = c("GEOID" = "FIPS").. I would have renamed one of those columns before the join. Thanks!
Julia: A special thank you for your attention to great audio. I have a hearing disability that interferes with understanding of content when there is even just a small amount of reverberation. So many presenters fail to recognize that even for people with good hearing and who can understand the words, a long presentation with poor audio is really tiring. Thank you again for your great content as always and your attention to great presentation skills. Cheers!
Very neat! Your spatialsample package could be of great use to geographers and other earth scientists and pretty much anyone that uses spatial data (map-based data). Thanks.
It was in the development version when I made this video but as of today, it is on CRAN! Looks like the binaries are not built yet so you will need to install the source (or just install from GitHub still): cran.r-project.org/package=spatialsample
geometry returns a shapefile for the counties and state of Texas (for mapping). In terms of the data would it not be more meaningful to look at the effect of the drought in the change in income? Perhaps the more well-to-do will simply move as a result of prolonged drought? It is to be expected that climate change will eventually result in migration to higher latitudes and cooler (wetter) climes.
I don't believe the folks who study migration think it happens on a very fast scale, but you can use tidycensus to get certain measures over time, to look at change. Could be interesting!
Getting data from the 2016-2020 5-year ACS Error in get_acs(geography = "country", state = "TX", variable = B19013_001, : object 'B19013_001' not found not working? guidance please
It's hard to say what is going wrong from just this, but I can recommend that you check out the documentation for tidycensus to learn more: walker-data.com/tidycensus/
@@JuliaSilge my only issue is the variable that isn’t being found on my system I could sent you an email with the picture if you would like as I have tried to install every package to try and fix the issue with other codes that have worked on the variable however it isn’t working for this specific code
@@zeeamir616 I recommend that you create a reprex: reprex.tidyverse.org/index.html#usage And then post on a forum like RStudio Community: community.rstudio.com/ Unfortunately screenshots/pictures and email are not great ways to get code problems solved. You can read more about this here: www.tidyverse.org/help/
Hi Julia, This is not exactly on topic but what are you thoughts on Quarto? I have been using it instead of RMarkdown and some packages such as data.table and sql have issues when run in it. Thanks
