@@darthXreven I read this in the 90's when it was released and even when I read it now, it's painful, because it's out of context for the time. Dark Knight was supposed to be the future and slang of the mutants and even OLD ass dirt Wayne saying "punks" made sense. Calling Spawn a Punk and Twit makes no sense.

Al Simmons has well above average level hand to hand combative skills, Batman has at least peak human if not bordering on superhuman hand to hand combative skills. Spawn is more of a punisher type of character, sure they aren't defenseless when it comes to a brawl, but they really shine when a weapon is put in their hand

What I came here to say. That was an awesome detail.

This was retconned in Spawn #20. The wound came from a gunshot during a mission with Houdini

He wasn't. This was a combination of "a paycheck" and "doing as you are told by the higher ups"

I'm pretty sure it was more than that. This is one of the two. This one appears to be directionally led by Spawn team with the other one being directionally led by Batman team. This one is awesome and the other sucks.

Yeah man I dig It, but it's like he says it, by that time was a way of introducing spawn to many readers, today you have waaay to much lore from both characters to create a more consistent story, it's such a shame that this one was so lame, cause have these two characters meet this way for me it just don't cut it.

@Hell Spawn If they were trying to make it more for kids, they wouldn't have him killing at all, I mean some of the times he broke his "code" weren't even necessary, not to mention some of the ultra violent storylines For these reasons, "for the kids" cannot be the whole reason, although I'm willing to concede it was possibly part of the decision making process There are a few people from that era still around, albeit not many Either way I still maintain it is an excuse for him not executing joker

As far as I know the 'rivalry' between Marvel and DC is a sham. It's completely fake. I've never seen one person ever act like you can only enjoy one and not the other.

@@SA80TAGE True, in the realm of comics things are usually pretty friendly, most people will prefer one of the two big companies over the other but still enjoy characters and series from both. For example, I prefer DC comics in general, but I also really like Thor and Chris Claremont's X-Men run. Beyond that the 'rivalry' only exists insofar as the crossover events from the 90s pitting the characters against each other, as well as the occasional disputes between writers and artists and the companies themselves. However, you are correct, you do have some people who are convinced that DC needed to 'beat' the MCU for no other reason than it deserving the same success. This is an idea shared by Warner Bros executives, and it is monumentally, disastrously stupid. I love superhero movies, they inspired me to go back and read the comics they were based on, and I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying superhero movies solely on their own. But there are toxic fake fans out there that are convinced that there must be some competition between Marvel and DC because they're the two biggest names in comics, because they're too stupid and narrow-minded to realize that success can occur independently of other people's failures.

There’s not, there’s just two. The other one is by DC that came out at the same time as this one. Greg Capullo and McFarlane were supposed to do another Spawn/Batman crossover back in 2007 but it never got off the ground.
