I'm From Chile and lately I've seen a lot of Haitian immigrants buying stuff at the market Where I'm working. It breaks my heart, because they seem so lost, they take a lot of time buying stuff and I really want to help them, but I can't because we can't understand each other's languages. lol Me too. I was so fluent in creole all throughout my childhood and high school. But after I went off to college and started living on my own I lost a lot of it. My creole has gotten so bad I sometimes get embarrassed to even speak in front of family. But I force myself to cuz practice makes perfect😊

+Theodore Buze I'm American so the French "R" sound is quite hard for me to do. French requires a lot of throaty or nasally words. Maybe i am doing something wrong, but i am still learning

Velvet Velours My theory is that for people who weren't learning that language since their childhood it would be quite unusual and cause pain. All i know is that it doesn't cause pain to me. (But im sure if you practice your throat will adapt and will stop hurting.

love this. I deal with haitian patients and I feel horrible not being able to communicate with them. My co-workers say, "we have to watch you because you know many creole sentences"...lol. Now I have more to add.

Wow! I loved this basic key language. Thanks for this video. You know, I'm from Brazil and these days a big deal of hatian people have migrated here and where I live my neighbors are mostly hatians. I overhear their conversations all in creole from nextdoors everyday all the time and wonder what they're talking about. I hardly can wait to become any fluent as enough to hold a conversation and make friends with them, heheh! I can speak some french but it doesn't help that much.

The Zuri Experience if you speak creole learning Swahili is easy because of the pronunciations and creole have lots of consonant which is how all African languages are

+Elisa Appasamy Yes! And Haitian Creole also has a lot of similarities with other French-based Creole's from the Caribbean. We just recently had a student from Dominica (the island, not the DR) and the Creole she grew up around was very similar to Haitian Creole!

So I live in a town rapidly growing in Haitian community. When I was like 10 there was a Software on windows called 'Microsoft Encarta' and it was basically a huge encyclopedia and it allowed me to learn Haiti creole language one of the words I still remember was "Kli ti das a"

I was planning a trip,when I guy o know from Haiti said that when I planned to go was not a good time. I have roots there that date back pre Independence. I thought maybe go to DR,than move to the Haitian side of Hispaniola. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

The "Can I" = Mwen kapab is a direct translation but doesn't interpret it in a true haitian way, in Haiti if you say a haitian "mwen kapab" he/she will be clueless about what you're trying to say and he/she will reply to you "kisa" means "what", when you say "mwen kapab" it should be followed by a verb e.g : "Mwen kapab ede ou?"= "May I help you?" this one is used in offices, if somebody is lost and needs directions etc... but the term "Can I"= Eske mwen met? that's the true meaning of it.

you three are too cute. It's surprising how much Creole and Quebecois french have in common (and I don't mean the base french, but its shifted versions)
