I was born a Hindu and had been a Protestant for about 15 years and converted to the Holy Catholic Church 6 years ago. My eyes actually well up as I think of the unfathomable grace of our Lord bestowed upon me to discover the one true Church and to escape from the mess of mindless stupidities and superstitions. Like any other modern puppet, I was also conditioned to shun traditions and dogmas. But, on my conversion to Catholicism, I found what an enormous intellectual safety and security that one could find under the wings of our Mother!!! By wings, I mean, her Creeds, Traditions, and Definitions. Human reason is a paltry, childish babbling compared to the ageless wisdom found at her feet. While I have been admiring so magnificent a view of the Catholic Church, it came to my notice that many Catholics tries to copy Protestant sentimentalism and emotionalism. It really pains my heart. I feel like a brother having an innocent teenager sister who got attracted to and flirts with a well-known scoundrel in their neighborhood that even his friends try to avoid. Born-Catholics! Please try to learn about your own Church before trying to “catch up” with silly Pentecostalism! Try to learn what a magnificent creature our Holy Catholic Church is!!

I went to a Catholic charismatic conference once. The conference center was Filled with thousands of people. During Mass, the priest said, “Now let’s all pray in tongues.” The whole stadium started babbling. Then it stopped and the priest continued the Mass. No interpretation, nothing. What made me very suspicious was that out of those thousands of people “speaking in tongues,” only two stood when asked if anyone was considering a religious life. I was wondering, “If all these people are speaking in tongues, where are the religious vocations? Where are the interpreters? Thus all doesn’t make sense. So I’m Very happy to find this video!!

Fascinating talk. I joined a Charismatic Renewal group. They prayed over me and there was actual pressure put on me to attempt to speak in tongues. I refused, I didn't feel comfortable with it, I thought it maybe contrived. There were many good people in the group. The head of it was an ex-psychologist. He told our entire family to leave saying we were not committed. I was shocked, we were all shocked. After leaving I was able to look at the group more clearly and saw it more of a controlling cult. I saw some of them at mass after I left and some of them completely ignored me. These are families whom I had cooked dinner for in my house. I'll never get involved in anything like that again. I now keep it traditional, Mass, Confession and the Holy Rosary. These never make me feel comfortable but bring me peace and happiness. Thanks for posting.

What you endured was the fascination of "self promotion / egoism" the fact the leader was an "ex psychologist" means he/she was probably steeped in the Marxist perversion that focuses on "self"... I stopped my work towards becoming a clinician out of contempt for the innate "victimhood / socialist" aspect within the 'educational' establishment in Psychology... pure and utter bullshit IMO. So, count yourself lucky you escaped. Try learning the core of Catholicism (not the hogwash that is presented by the pseduo clergy like "fr" James Martin (a homo heretic) ). If you want to get immersed, and learn at a solid, "no fluff" pace, try Church Militant. join and get access to hundreds of short instructional and totally based in real bible research, lessons. Many clergy hate Church Militant because it teaches core beliefs, and the foundation of the Church, whereas many clergy today are homo heretics more concerned with SJW crap than Saving Souls. "The Truth Is Out There.... and it resides in Church Militant's educational videos :-)" PS. I'm not in any way associated with them... but found them by accident after years of "floating" and they are rock solid... But, they are blatantly honest and don't sugar-coat things... that 'offends' many snowflakes in the world today.... FYI

It scared the heck out of me at five years old. Maybe it's my personality, but I was never kumbaya and had no interest in that stuff. Thank God. I guess you missed the part where the Blessed Mother spoke in tongues? St Peter our first pope spoke in tongues. If the The Holy Blessed Mother and St Peter spoke in tongues that is all the validation any Catholic needs. It basically boils down to accepting the gifts of the Holy Spirit or telling God you don't want to do things his way.

In 1968 my mother went to a Pentecostal church and they kept asking her when she was going to speak in tongues. One evening my mother thought she’d put them to the test and started swearing in Italian. The woman sitting (or standing) in front of her turned around and said “Now you got the Holy Spirit!”. That’s when my mother knew they were fake and stopped going to their church.

I literally had nothing but my family and the Catholic church... even my friendships were weak.... no boyfriend.... had it not been for that, I might've been tempted into leaving... cause I had no knowledge about the faith either and I was scared to ask questions because sometimes, someone or my dad couldn't answer it.... but I didn't wanna leave the faith cause Jesus, Mary, Heaven, the faith was literally my only hope and reason for going on living. I knew if I left the anxiety and wanting to die thoughts would get worse. So glad you're coming back. I'm sad for so many fallen away Catholics, who simply weren't educated on the true faith. ;(

Honestly, it is cool.... at first, until I encountered Tradition, the True teachings of the Church, and I analyzed that this "cool" thingy will compromise my faith, and it almost did, thank God He alarmed me. I also heard if a person really has the Holy Ghost, he must have the fruits, not the gifts necessarily. And it doesnt really edify the Church at all, it actually opens the door for demons to interfere. I would trust the words of Fr. Ripperger since he is well experienced and he is an exorcist.

The day I became Christian I spoke in tongues. It was a beautiful language and when I spoke it I was accompanied with a profound joy in Christ. It was a language that could only speak the heart of God at its absolute purity. And it took over my entire thinking, my thoughts were in this language. It was very intricate and detailed, not like many people you might hear in protestant Churches. It sounded a lot like a mixture of Hebrew and Russian. Surprisingly, I did not know about tongues at the time, I knew nothing about Christianity other than the fact that I was in desperate need of salvation. The experience was profound and full of light and I have never felt more alive, and it has never happened since. And that very experience was such a deep testimony for me that I pretty much abandoned all of my plans and goals in life and I spent hours and hours praying every single day and seeking God for over a year, until eventually I began seeking him in Church as well.

Testimonials like yours are what keeps me thinking that speaking in tongues might be a real gift from God. In Corinthians it talks about a personal prayer language. I personally have not experienced it but I know people who are very earnest in their pursuit of God who speak in tounges all the time. Really really good people. It's such a mystery to me and I don't know what the truth of the matter is.

@@jasminemariedarling The truth is that gift of tounges is real gift from God. When someone prayed for me in tounges, I was getting healing from Lord. As also I saw someone to manifest, when someone else were talking in tounges. Demons doesnt like the tounges, they dont want as to have this gift.

I have a very similar testimony, mine sounded a lot like Arabic. For those questioning this gift, I was once there too, so I can understand. However, I received the gift of tongues when I was I alone in prayer and it was the most profound thing that has ever happened to me. I also felt a joy, peace and no longer had any doubts when it came to my faith in Jesus. That day absolutely changed my life 🤍

Regarding speaking in tongues, I believe that the tongues in Acts and that spoken of by St Paul in 1 Corinthians 14 are the same thing. *They're both real, human languages, not spontaneous outbursts of unintelligble sounds.* There's no reason I've seen so far to say otherwise. Something that helped me see this is to replace *"tongues"* with *"languages"* in 1 Corinthians 14. And you can also replace *"in Church"* with *"when you're with others"* to help see the point. *1. How then do we make sense of 1 Cor 14:2?: Establish context first* To begin with, the context of 1 Cor 14 is love: how we should make love our aim (See vs 1) You'll see this if you read chapters 12 to 14 _(which is talking precisely about spiritual gifts and I encourage everyone to read those three chapters),_ where it was established that love is the highest spiritual gift. *What then is Love?* - Simply, it is seeking the good of others. Or doing things that will benefit others. - You'll notice that in chapter 14, Paul said many things about tongues. He said that he speaks in tongues more than others, but then added, _"in Church (i.e. when you're with other persons), do so and so"._ - Basically, St. Paul is saying, in your private prayer, you can edify yourself. But in Church (i.e. when you're with others), do things that will edify (benefit) others. *2. Returning to 1 Cor. 14:2* - 14:2 _For one who _*_speaks in a tongue_*_ speaks not to men but to God; _*_for no one understands him,_*_ but he utters mysteries in the Spirit._ - Why does no one understand him? Simply because he is speaking Chinese (for instance) to Indian men that don't know Chinese AND there's no interpreter. - Basically, he's speaking a foreign language to those that don't speak the language AND there's no interpretation. Remember, he is not benefitting those people by doing so. Hence, he isn't making love his aim, which he is supposed to be doing. - In Acts, every one of the hearers understood because even though the language being spoken was foreign to the speaker, it wasn't foreign to the hearers; hence, no interpreter was required. - So someone that is saying things you don't understand is not actually communicating (speaking) to you. He is rather speaking to anyone that understands. (For instance, if there's a Chinese in the midst of those Indians, he would be the one being spoken to). - And since *God understands every single human language,* the person is speaking to God. *3. Then you might say, obviously, the speaker isn't meant to be concerned about men understanding him because he is speaking to God alone* - But recall the context, LOVE. Whatever he does *while in Church* should benefit others. - I think verse 17 would help buttress this point: - _1 Cor 14:17. "For you may give thanks well enough, but *the other man is not edified.*"_ - Someone that is giving thanks is *obviously speaking to God.* But St Paul points out that the other man isn't edified, no matter how well the speaker gives thanks *to God.* _N.B. Praying in tongues = Speaking in tongues _*_directed_*_ to God._ - So St. Paul seems to agree that even though your speech is obviously directed to God, while you're in Church, other people should be edified. And how can they be edified if they don't understand you? - So, going back to the context, whatever we do while in Church (i.e. while we're with others) should benefit others. - That is how to *"make love your aim"* - If no one understands, then interpret. 1 Cor 12:7 further supports this point: - _"To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit *for the common good.*"_ So all gifts, including the gift of tongues is for the common good, not necessarily personal good. *4. How about when there's no interpreter in Church?* - 1 Cor 14:28 answers this question directly: - _"But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them _*_keep silence in church_*_ and speak to himself and to God."_ - Indeed, we can talk to God in the silence of our hearts without using our voice *because God is Spirit.* He doesn't need sound. Sound depends on matter to be produced and propagated and received. It is we humans that require sound to communicate. God is beyond that limitation. That's the beauty of our God; you can pray without anyone knowing. *5. Lastly, tongues is just one amongst all other gifts of the Spirit. It is not meant for everyone.* - See 1 Cor 12:28-30 - All the other gifts, when used, clearly benefits others. Is it prophesy?, or teaching?, or healing? or apostleship? - Why not speaking in tongues too? *6. Final note* In the event in the book of Acts, some persons see a reversal of the Tower of Babel event. - Where initially God used multiple languages to confuse and scatter the family of man (Gen 11:1-9); - then in Acts, the Spirit uses multiple languages to communicate the gospel and gather together the family of God. - And they were both talking of real, human languages. - But if we begin to say things in Church that no one else understands and there's no interpreter, we would seem to be returning to the Tower of Babel scenario. Just something to think about. The whole point of this is for us not to forget that, in all we do, we should make love our aim.

I’m glad to find this thread in the comments. It’s very disheartening to hear fellow Catholics treat this particular expression of the Holy Spirit the way Protestants treat the Catechism. It was, in fact, my personal experience of receiving the Gift of Tongues that eventually led me “back home” to the Catholic Church. Where I might add, allowed me to lead a powerful ministry which included the role of Pastoral Associate. As Lay Catholic working in this healing deliverance and exorcism ministry - my experience says it's pure demonic according to the scripture definition of genuine tongues and the explanation of the body of the faith. However - Jesus isn't here to tell us that this person or that priest or this cardinal is "gifted' with a language that constitutes 'genuine tongues". Remember - it is used for the exhortation of the spirit and body of the believers in order for those that spoke other languages to understand those that were preaching in others languages and they could go out and share the gospel? Well- that's what I stick to and that is the definition of many exorcists..so as a believer you must make the distinction of what you will expose yourself to and what invitation level you will invest your faith in. Personally when i hear those 'speaking in tongues' I LEAVE! and pray for them for I do not want anything that is not of God in my hearing..thats me...God bless your faith and the Holy Spirit that guides you! I’ve seen quite a few videos of Fr Blount’s speeches and homilies and I have never heard him “speak” in tongues. Just say that he prays in tongues. Although he says he thinks highly of Pentecostals who speak in tongues, this seems to be a key difference, prayer Va public speaking. When I was Assemblies of God Pentecostal, I heard many people “speak in tongues” and pray aloud in “tongues.” It was always unintelligible and people would “interpret” at will, claiming that the person just said whatever they (the “interpreter) really wanted to say. I think Fr Blount acts in good faith and is geniune, but I hope he stays away from the evil spirits and being “slain in the spirit,” I’ve heard him say that if he and Benny Hinn ever met he thinks they would both be slain in the spirit.
@wendyoswalt
@wendyoswalt 18 дней назад
I would listen to Fr Blount first. He understands it can demonic or from God. That's why we are to test the spirits. Even being slain in the spirit can be real but unfortunately a lot of ppl that try to operate in such an atmosphere does so without any discernment. Fr Rip is only speaking from never having experienced any such things himself. I come from the pentecostal side and I do believe there's a lot of doors being opened to the enemy for lack of discernment. There are some gifts that are better practiced private or with like minded people. What good does it do to pray in tongues in front of people that will only get freaked out by it? I myself have been slain in the spirit and it basically just felt like my body became light as a feather. Sometimes I war in the spirit when praying in tongues but It comes naturally.. I'm not trying to do it. Many times after receiving Jesus in the eucharist when I get to me seat and kneel I begin to pray in tongues under my breath like nobody would know. There needs to be a balance I believe and I believe people should be skeptical and test each spirit. I love Fr Blount and he's a man who had experienced such gifts himself. Not everyone is open to the spirit world that way and the holy spirit is a gentlemen and will never force himself on people.

Exactly, God does not operate in a void- the actual Greek translation is a mystery or prophecy- which is directed to the body to uphold the body in all 3 faculties. Desiring and pusuing this "gift" of "tongues" is a violation of the first commandment. When the Holy Spirit moves- it is the will of God to man, not man pestering for a present to show off. With public glossalalia we have a discordant funk of junk.

@@SwordsofSaintMichaelOrg - The Apostle Paul plainly commands us to desire to pray in tongues, and says we can and ought to do it silently if there's no one to interpret it. Public or liturgical tongues is inappropriate unless there's an interpreter, and those are few and far between. But there's nothing wrong with edifying ourselves in faith, hope, and love through praying in tongues.

May I share my experience? I was confirmed when I was eight years old. When preparing for the sacrament, I had great faith about receiving the Holy Spirit. A few months later, I found myself speaking something I called “jibber jabber “ when alone; I felt so happy. Then I thought that my older sister would tease me endlessly if she heard this, so I would not allow myself to do that. 22 years later, I made Cursillo, and a friend invited me to a charismatic prayer group. There I prayed for a new baptism in the Spirit, and started speaking. It was the same things I spoke at age eight! Through our participation in the charismatic renewal, I, and my husband, learned how to discern when the Holy Spirit is speaking to us. He is a Deacon, and I have observed things in the spiritual realm that came out true. And I agree with Father, much of the things in the “renewal” are people seeking the unusual, not seeking holiness. I realize now, from Father’s talk, that I was given a gratitude gift. I can tell so many stories about this. Thank you, Jesus.

Several months ago, I tried to practice speaking in "tongues". Since then I had heard a lot of voices acting as if "God" Himself speaking to me directly, telling me this and that (no evil things at all), making me believe that I was special. Recently, due to some incidents I realized that none of those voices that I had heard turned out to be true. Thus, I blamed God that He had lied to me, and I ended up getting so angry at God. Earlier today, I had a feeling that the voices could be from the devil because God would never say false things. Now I see this video. Probably through the incidents I coped with recently, I learnt a lesson that the voices spoken to my head (a couple times a day)...wasn't actually God's. Now I realized the reason that I got those voices was because I had opened the gateway to the demonic realm through speaking in "tongues" (fake tongues to be exact). Be careful guys. Lucky me God stepped in and didn't let me go too far or I would end up getting possessed eventually. Thanks be to Jesus!

You're not supposed to practice tongues. The Holy Spirit is who speaks through you not yourself. This kundalini spirit or whatever only comes if like you say you practice tongues or if you allow entry ways for it. The gift of tongues is real, we just have to walk righteously and come into close connection to God. Don't let other people talk you out of looking, most catholics are spiritually blind. Read the Bible, pray, fast, find a good church.

We have all power and authority over the enemy !...the demons will only come in if you let them. They hate God and us. We have to use our authority. The only reason they came was that you let them. It has nothing to do with tongues. Tongues is praying directly from your spirit to God's Spirit. It's not the same as praying normally because our flesh is involved. Not everybody speaks in tongues but if you desire to benefit the most out of a relationship with the Father it is the only way. If you desire this ask the Lord to increase your faith in tongues... May God bless you richly in everything you do !

@@Username-hd1co "Most Catholics are spiritually blind" Same with Protestants. Catholicism is better off at least because She is Apostolic. The Holy Ghost can and does administer His gifts. No one is denying that. But if a "spiritual manifestation" of any sort contradicts or leads one away from the Apostolic faith, then it must be rejected. The vast majority of "tongue speakers" I know do precisely that.

I grew up Lutheran, but used to attend an Assemblies of God church on Sunday nights with Pentecostal friends. I really respected these people, but the emphasis on having a peak emotional experience every single service bothered me more & more over time-as well as the downward slide of the preaching from Scriptural “meat” to feel-good “milk.” Ive been Catholic for 23 years now, and have, over time, looked up old friends from both Anabaptist and Pentecostal denominations, discovering to my sorrow that most of them no longer practice their faith-or, for some, even believe in it. Without the Sacraments, they did not have the graces to persevere.

I grew up in the Assemblies of God, and came into full communion a few months ago. The shift in focus from God as the Holy Trinity, to almost exclusively, at some congregations, to the “Holy Spirit,” was progressively more and more disturbing to see. The calling down of this spirit, the sudden chaos during loud music that would ensue, snd irreverence for Our Lord grew worse and worse. Of course coupled with prosperity gospel and urging people to give,I kid you not, 35% tithe, or more! The amount of people struggling with their assurance of salvation, waiting for the Holy Spirit to come fill them, because speaking in tongues is the sign of someone filled with the Holy Spirit, so you know someones a true Christian if they are, and then never actually doing it, until two church leaders stood by me and prayed and urged and babbled while I made some kind of noise until finally I started babbling I KNOW NOT WHAT AND THATS SOMEHOW GLORIFYING TO GOD?!! The Sacraments are the most concrete assurance of Salvation on Earth, instituted by Our Lord Jesus Christ to make us more and more apart of Himself every time we receive them. They cut straight through the “feelings” that Protestant Pentecostal services depend on. Experiencing the Presence of God in my very Soul, in spite of my bodily chemical reactions, is beyond anything of this world.

Usually with either the sermon or the music, or speaking in tongues, or some combination of those 3, depending on the denomination. It was spiritually unsatisfying, and I eventually became apostate. Then I found the Catholic Church and the Holy sacrifice of the Mass, and my life changed forever. Thanks be to God! Been Catholic 3 years now and love the true Church and the true Faith.

ALL who were there heard what was being said in their own language at the same time. What is being passed off as "speaking in tongues" is nothing more than babble. No one understands what is being said! GOD IS TRUTH! What HE says to us is TRUTH. GOD will not communicate with us with babble. Father Chad Ripperger said: "The worst case of exorcism that I ever had was a woman who asked for the gift of tongues and she got it". The biggest danger of the Charismatic Movement is not that we will all become Pentecostals, etc. but that we may become fanatical worshippers of ourselves, our feelings and emotions while calling all that self-idolatry "the Holy Spirit". That open us to channeling demon spirits and that's why that woman became possessed. Not all Charismatics will become possessed but too many of the Catholic Clergy, some even at the highest levels, and Laity has become possessed with the self-idolatry of emotions, feelings and "accompanying" and being "inclusive-with-no-repentance-ever" of the sinful world.

About speaking in tonguerely s-I grew up Catholic, in Catholic school, etc. When i moved we had an Assembly of God church (in the south) and people would speak in tongues but there was always an interpreter. The pastor went somewhere where he received the "falling out" power. As he was speaking and telling the church, he fell and was out cold for 20 minutes. Right after he fell out, a number of choir people fell, then people in the pews were falling down. the man in front of me in the pew (end of pew) was literally lifted up into the air and thrown down the isle by about 8 feet. I was watching all this. One man in the military (many Navy men came to that church) strarted shaking so bad and he was yellling Jesus help me..He had to be carried out by 4 men. I could barely stand in the pew. I felt like I was drunk. this church never had anything liket this happen before, it was very conservative. When i went home I told my husband and touched him on the forehead and we both fell backwards in the living room at the same time. I heard a woman laugh as I fell and realized it was me. I didnt purposely laugh at all it was like I was one second unconscious. At the time I thought it was the Holy Spirit. Now I know the HS does not do that. Im concerned I was a victim of the kudlani spirit. I didnt know that existed. Its never happened again. I pray to Jesus/God and my prayers are answered. I see so many evangelists on tv using this "touch" and "fall". Am I right to say this is not biblical?

In my research into the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church I read an article on EWTN written by Colin Donovan in which he basically states, that every instance of a charismatic phenomenon has to be individually discerned as to whether it is from the Holy Spirit or not. (Unfortunately, this article is no longer on their website.) That to me is an incredible statement! That seems like an unbelievable burden to put on sinful human beings who are so easily fooled as to spiritual phenomenon. The chance for spiritual deception is too high!

4:09 1 Corinthians 14. 14 St Paul said it is possible to pray in the spirit in a tongue but the understanding be unfruitful. So, it does not mean that it is diabolical. I do think much supposed "tongues" is just produced by the person by mimicking sounds, or repeating meaningless syllables. Some may be diabolic. But it is possible some may be genuinely from the Holy Spirit, spoken without understanding, as St Paul says.

Yes, I ask people to ask themselves that question. especially when they quote scripture to edify confusion and chaos such as that. God is not the author of riddles, mysterious languagues, unknown messages. He communicates cleary, openly seeking the unification and edification of the entire body! Not once in one passage of scripture do we have examples of a human having "fits" or body siezing in speaking tongues nor prophesy! When it is mentioned IT IS cleary outlines AS Demonic in origin!!! I am perplexed at the level of argument that ensues at this topic. Reason constitutes reason. There is none to be had flapping like a maimed bird!!

I have enjoyed many of Fr. Ripperger talks on video. I do have to say about in the end here, Fr. Ripperger says slaying in Spirit is "psychological" My experience is many times going to Fr. Diorio's healing service I have been "slain" in the Spirit. It wasn't something "psychological" I stood before him and he prayed, touched my forehead and I went like an ironing board, fell straight back, felt light as a feather. I didn't try to brace myself from falling backward, or stumble backward. One cannot fall backward stiff as a board so to speak. One would hold back worried about cracking their skull. It was an authentic "slain in the Spirit" where the Holy Spirit came upon me. Also St. Paul says to pray for the Gifts of Spirit. I have been involved with Charismatic Renewal for many years.

Its given in the Bible Mark 16 : 17 that those who believe are given the power to cast out demons and speak in tongues. So, I started asking God to give me the gift of Speaking in Tongues. It was in 2012 I started asking and I got it in 2018. I had to wait 6 years but it was worth it. God not only gave me the gift of Speaking in Tongues but also to sing in tongues 1 Corinthians 14. When I speak in Tongues the peace that I feel is immeasurable. Later on I started asking God for the interpretation of tongues and in 2021 I was given that gift also. No I didn't go to any Pentecostal church to get it God gave it to me in my bedroom as I was crying out to him for this gift. Since our church doesn't encourage these gifts so I told no one in my church. But to those people who make fun of speaking in tongues please remember that its a gift of the Holy Spirit and in Ephesians 4:30 it says " not to grieve the Holy Spirit. @Colin Sheehan I believe it is still true that "by their fruits you shall know them" Mt. 7:20. If people who exercise charismatic gifts as part of their Catholic faith are able to live authentic productive lives which means holy lives without sin or at least minimize them considerably and avoid grave and mortals sins compared to their previous lives, then why judge how they practice the faith? "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines." 1 Cor. 12:7-11 Dr. Mary Healy is not the sole expert in this field you know. We also have the likes of Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa who has been and still is Preacher to the Papal Household for 3 terms now. I believe Dr. Ralph Martin has the same mind as well. There a lot of reputable personalities who have this mindset so you can not discount the possibility that there is at least some truth to the claims of the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church. One of the most convincing evidence is the amount of changed lives as a result of it.

The more we set the truth free- the angrier people become- coincidence? I think not. Yes, speaking in tongues is a real phenomena, have I witnesse a true "gift" of speaking in tongues OUTSIDE of a demonically oppressed person- NO. I have witnessed countess incidents of glossalalia, and the Catholics I've encounted swear by Gods grace its TRUE... By all things holy- the current practise of asking for and speaking in tongues is a BOLD FACE LIE OF DEVILS!!!!! I speak and understand and can identify multiple ACTUAL languages, God remove the scakes ftom the eyes of those decieved! Sr farah, ofs, osde

@@SwordsofSaintMichaelOrg good to hear this sermon by Fr. Chad and the much you highlighted here. A lot.of catholics have really been left in the back as regards the understanding of the tongues in the bible especially 1 corinthians 14 which seems to be very difficult to understand and a lot of people has been led astray by false teachings.When you say you speak in tongues and understand what is been said, is it that you spontaneously speak and understand another country's language that you never formally learn? Please could you buttress futher.

I always felt as though something had happened to me because I did not speak in tongues. As I heard people speaking in tongues, some appeared to me (not knowledgeable on the subject) that they were more like deamons, but I was reassured that this was biblical so I did not question any more. I am still trying to digest the video, and will watch it again because so many priests (renewal priests) have spoken about this as a gift of the Lord. uhmmm speechless still but at the same time relieved.

Many years ago I had seen a lot of people speak in tongues at prayer meetings and in fact the first ever time was on a visit to a friends church . The lady spoke In this beautiful pleading language and I actually was deeply blessed by it as there were two interpretations given and though both were different in approach they both said the same thing in essence . It enabled me to see the real from the fake as I had seen both before . I was camping and walking around praising God and suddenly a language came into my vocabulary and I was slightly embarrassed and was not completely sure of it all . It was a deep praise language but it also has an intimacy that I cannot express between me and the Lord . It’s like I know why I’m doing it and I know what it is but I can’t express to you what it is as it’s too elaborate . Years later at what would become a more common aspect of my life’s ministry I was at a public deliverance meeting when demons started jumping around the room into women out of another woman ( Jezebel ) . I had much experience with this demon but had not identified it previously but now I knew what it was and the demon in this lady beside me looked at me and I just spoke in tongues at this devil and rebuked it and the look of fear that came over it I will never forget . I only utilize it in meetings rarely perhaps 3 times total in the last 5 years . As for the demons reaction they truly hate it and get afraid . It is my intimate language with God and I occasionally share it with others however I want to abide in good order and not cause a stumbling block to someone . I likewise have received from God the interpretation of what others have said in tongues as God has given me the ability to decipher the language . I will say though I keep this private and as well I will say I see what I consider human effort tongues so as to say people generate sounds to make themselves look a certain way . I say this cautiously as I don’t particularly like when someone speaks in tongues out of order and unless it’s for their private worship and I hear it . There is some chaos out there but likewise those that think everything is of the devil have poor discernment also based on fear . I agree with Father R that extreme caution needs to be applied . All of scripture used in context will give a good understanding of what is out of order . I’ve heard demonic tongues also and we often silence the demons as they are trying to enact a spiritual element into the room by speaking in an evil tongue . God Understands all language at once and He created most languages at Babel . I think when we are contrite and seeking God humbly and we are willing servants it is common for God to instil additional grace to those he chooses . I myself am called to minister to the broken and the afflicted and this was a calling that God placed on me when I was young . The devil tried to detour me through disappointment and through hypocritical behaviours of those supposed to be Godly . I became afflicted with rebellion but God led me to safety . I have no fear of any devil , I hate demonic evil and the ways of the devil and I know the means to which he is able to corrupt people . This has allowed me to minister effectively for the Lord and His children . Many are afflicted with demons, all sin leads to cohabitating with devils but there are weaker and stronger devils based on their assignments . Many cannot read the bible as a direct result of demonic bondage and thereby they walk in ignorance . If your struggling with the word of God and your finding it hard make sure you read John 6 and know that the miracle of Christ’s body and Blood is what gives you life . You need this to be strong and able . You need this because Christ told us to receive of Him in this manner . Rebuke all sin and leave unholy friends except for purposes of evangelism . If this troubles you greatly then it’s the devil . You can come against him in prayer to God and open rebuke to the devil . What did Jesus say to the devil ??? He said “ it is written “ He quoted scripture and told the devil to back up and get out of the way . Get behind me Satan is what Jesus said . You are allowed to speak to the devil if you notice him . Don’t be afraid of him as he is a master of intimidation . I’ve had demons threaten to kill me and they tell me how much they hate me . I refer them to Jesus and say to them “ look at Jesus right now and tell me what He says about what you just said “ , they look down in defeat and say “ He said we can’t touch His fighters “ !!!!! You are protected in Christ if you hate sin and want to serve for the Lord , God is with you do not fear anything but God . The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom . Jesus loves you and wants you free ✝️

Comet Halley , was the demon sugarcoating the story such as to deceive wherewith they complained of the one women’s submission to Christ and how she loved her Lord that it was maki g hard work for them . She kept praying and seeking God and the demons were complaining that they were going to get in so much trouble from Satan and so they had planned to kill her but could not because of her Lord . Was that sugar coated ? Where does one enter the realm of thinking that every outburst is a lie ??? I believe you have not been witness to the humiliation demons are exposed to by having to submit to Christ . He is there also and this is not an isolated satellite type process . Jesus is with us and loves when we do what He asked . Mark 16 as well as many other indicators describe the requirement .

The New Testament talks about groups of people praising God and praying in tongues at the same time. Paul says he prays more in tongues than anyone else. It’s a prayer language! The other gift of tongues like a prophetic word needs interpretation. Sadly we don’t experience a lot of New Testament gifts of the Spirit in today’s Catholic masses. Furthermore Paul admonishes the church, that is everyone in the church, to strive for the gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. Why is Father Ripperger not teaching about that? We need more Holy Spirit, more gifts of the Spirit, more praying in tongues, not less.

True, Catholics do not "experience" tongues in mass as mass is liturgy not a sensate flow of feeling. This striving for the "gifts" is great however most here misinterpret Fathers point. He and I both speak directly from experience in the Office of Healing Deliverance and Exorcism. It is not right ordered to seek that "which is outside of Gods will for us. When we reject what we have been given to boldly pursue what we believe is a better "gift", or percieve as to be "special" this is where the problems and demons have a field day. We do have great holy people with prophecy and tongues, they are humble enough not to brag. Pax Christi.

I fasted the whole day, prayed my rosary, and decided to pray quietly. All of a sudden I realized that I couldn’t pray in my usual way. I started speaking in tongues all of a sudden. In fact I couldn’t stop it the first time I spoke it. In fact I don’t understand what I’m saying but I noticed that the words change based on what I’m thinking about. I’ve been asking God to take it away if it’s not from him. Paul mentioned that he prays in tongues more than everyone else. I’m not sure if he understood what he was saying or not. Only God knows I guess.

I have never had any issues with respect to ‘prayer in tongues’ I live a consecrated holy life married to one wife and we have six children, one married, so now seven. My prayer life without experiencing The Love of God, the gift of tongues and a deep love for our Lord Jesus Christ would be whimsical at best. With respect I can’t fathom how Father Ripperger can tear up my experiences with such an opinion and share it with others like that. The gift is certainly edifying for me yet I certainly don’t hold tightly to it as I realise love, faith and hope are indeed truly the point of living in Christ Jesus. And I have no issue with The Holy Bible, the sacraments of the church or praying the rosary ❤️💨🔥 This has been my experience for 40 years. Oh and I have completed postgraduate qualifications in Catholic theology. He Who IS God does do as He pleases - Psalm 135.

Two dimensions: only one Church. One cannot oppose 'hierarchy' to 'charism,' any more than one oppose the work of the Incarnate Son to that of the Spirit who pursues it and actualises it. The Church is one indivisible reality: her visible and sacramental institutional dimension is inseparable from her invisible dimension, to which the many and varied charisms of the Spirit belong. Echoing the Church's Tradition, Karl Rahner, S.J., rightly points out that: The charismatic element belongs to the essence of the Church just as necessarily and permanently as the hierarchical ministry and the sacraments.' charismatic reality is an integral part of the Church’s very structure; it is not a kind of subsequent accretion, as if the institutional Church needed regularly a bit of‘extra soul’ and an injection of dynamic power. This is an interesting position on the gift of tongues - but how does Father Ripperger reconcile this perspective with 1 Corinthians 14:13-19? "Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray to be able to interpret. [For] if I pray in a tongue, my spirit* is at prayer but my mind is unproductive. So what is to be done? I will pray with the spirit, but I will also pray with the mind. I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will also sing praise with the mind. Otherwise, if you pronounce a blessing [with] the spirit, how shall one who holds the place of the uninstructed say the “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? For you may be giving thanks very well, but the other is not built up. I give thanks to God that I speak in tongues more than any of you, but in the church I would rather speak five words with my mind, so as to instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue."
@UriasThePious
@UriasThePious 4 года назад
I don't see any tension between the two. Fr. Ripperger says authentic tongues need to be natural languages, which is what is the verse assumes when the need for an interpreter is mentioned. He also emphasizes that such tongue speak is not a turning off of the mind. Fr. Ripperger also emphasizes that. So I'm curious to know what the conflict lies exactly?

@@UriasThePious I think the conflict is that St Paul states in 1 Corinthians that speaking in tongues is praying with your spirit but not understanding what you are saying in your mind ( unless someone can interpret - another gift).Father Ripperger says that this is not the case, you either have to be speaking another language that someone can understand or that you understand what you are speaking. Many peoples e experience ( including my own) is that praying in tongues ( a gift I did not ask for by the way) and not understanding what I saying can be beneficial to prayer. I use it a lot on my own. I do not believe I am possessed by an evil spirit ( of course I could be wrong). Satan counterfiets the spiritual gifts, so possessed individuals do speak in other languages, but it is also a genuine gift given by the Holy Spirit.

I think that's beautiful. There are many, many Catholics---priests, religious, and lay people -- that pray in tongues and "strive eagerly for the spiritual gifts..." (1 Cor 14:1a) as Paul exhorts us to do in the Bible (the first and foremost Church document) -- see 1 Cor 12-14 (with a proper understanding and context), Jude, Romans 8, Ephesians 6, and more. Fr. Michael Sears wrote a book on this beautiful gift of the Holy Spirit and there are a ton of other wonderful Catholic teachers teaching on it. I believe, with all due respect, that what Fr. Ripperger speaks in this video is extremely misguided & misinformed about a beautiful gift that the Lord intended for all believers to operate in (see Mark 16:17). I would hope that one day he will meet one of the many solid priests and other lay people who are involved in well-run charismatic ministry and be able to come to a first-hand experience of these things to teach from that place, rather than from the place I believe he is coming from in this video, which is one that has little first-hand experience with solid charismatic Catholic ministries and individuals operating in the gifts of the Spirit. I encourage you to check out Encounter Ministries, Fr. John Hampsch teaching ministry, Fr. Michael Sears, Renewal Ministries --these are all wonderful Catholic ministries that teach on, the full life in the Spirit, including the vast treasure that is the gift of tongues.

I find Father Ripperger's talks fascinating. I've always wondered about the charasmatic church and if speaking in tongues was okay. When I was a little girl many many years ago I was taught this was evil. I have attended several healing masses at a Catholic charasmatic church in my city and I want to know if this is okay. I do find it a bit unnerving when they begin to speak and sing in tongues. And I have been slain in the spirit a few times. I went because I was having emotional problems after my mom died and my health took a downturn. I was very depressed because of this and felt I was going crazy and I couldn't sleep. This did help me out of my severe depression. I still suffer from occasional bouts with it and still have trouble sleeping. So I really wanted to know if going to this church once in awhile is wrong?. Unfortunately the audio quality in the video is hard to understand and I couldn't make out much even with headphones. I would disagree with this priest when it comes to resting in the spirit and tongues. Maybe God gives it more freely than he thinks. Even if it is a gratuitous gift. Resting in the spirit is also an amazing healing gift. No! I myself is in Charismatic Catholics Renewal and I join a community founded by a very good Carmelite priest. Our community's spirits are both carmelite and charismatic. The speak in tounge is a gift from God, how can we say God gifting wrongly? It is not a must for everyone to get this gift, even if you can request it from Him with humble heart. But it is very important for us to know not to put too much emphasize on the gifts of speak in tongue etc but to focus on Jesus. So we have to focus on the eucharist and the Church. The gift of tongue and other charisms received by anyone (I believe including the gift of exorcism as manifested by God through Fr Ripperger), are to be used for doing His work and for His glory. We have to question anything that drive us further from God, if it is really from God, or from our selfish nature or from the evil one. Even the gift from God can be wrongly used (just like how often we wrongly used the talents God give us, or as basic as the gift of life?)

Carmelites, if properly formed, will not need to resort to the charismatic movement. The charismatic movement is not compatible with the Carmelite charism. Carmelites seek silence, meditation, and contemplation which is not found in tongues or at any of these boisterous, loud, cacophonous charismatic events so I am concerned this priest does not have a vocation to Carmel but a different order. So many “Carmelites” have been drawn into non-Carmelite movements when all they need to do is go back to their spiritual role models and do what the Order asks of them assuming they actually have a true vocation to Carmel. They have been misled and now are misleading others by using their association with Carmelites to make these charismatic groups appear legitimate. Both the OCDs and O.Carms need to clean this up but too many of the higher ups have forsaken/adulterated the Carmelite methods of prayer for new age (centering prayer) or exciting new methods to spice up their prayer life (charismatics).
