Speaking In Tongues - My Testimony

Before passing judgment, please hear my story and pray about it. I really appreciate that. God bless you.
I used to consider speaking in tongues DEMONIC. Over time, God revealed to me more about this phenomenon until I was left convinced that the "Charismatic" speaking in tongues is for today. (I think it's important to judge by the fruit of someone or something.) In this video I share about that journey.

@@avpink531 To speak in tongues( one spiritual language) you need to seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Once the Lord answers your prayer ,and fills you, you must then surrender the bodys' " most unruly member" your tongue to the Holy Spirit until He enables you to speak in " tongues". Go to a Pentecostal church and tell them what you want. They will pray with you until until it happens. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. This is real !

It’s sad that a lot of “believers” don’t believe in the Holy Spirit living within us, demons, speaking in tongues, etc.. These people will never reach their full potential in their walk with God. When we speak in tongues it is our spirit speaking!! One of the beyond amazing gifts from God.

Aaron, it’s now 2024 and I’m grateful I found your video. 15 years a Christian this year and I’ve always struggled to accept that the gift of tongues could be for me. I’ve been turned off by public displays of speaking in tongues because deep down I believe it is an intimate gift not meant for show. And I’ve desired this gift as a means of being more intimate with the Lord in prayer (which is my weakest area). Listening to you today gave me hope and desire to go back to the Lord about this and ask. Praise God, by the humility and truth in your voice, you convinced me and convicted me. So, thank you. Maybe tonight is the night I ask again for this precious gift.

people think it's just something you start doing, but it comes upon you and the Holy Spirit did it through you right? They say "God doesn't force you to speak in tongues." But if you surrender and ask for it then He will do it through you I want to believe.

Hey brother Christopher. Thanks for your comments. The way I understand it praying in tongues is like this: 1) It is available to each believer, but only through the baptism/in-filling of the Holy Spirit. 2) We have to ask for it. 3) When we pray in tongues it is not exactly the Holy Spirit doing the praying, but our own spirit/spirit man (1 Cor. 14:15) and the Holy Spirit guides our praying and it is always spot on in the will of God (Rom. 8:26). I didn't know much about the baptism of the Holy Spirit or tongues when I asked for tongues. I didn't ask for the baptism of the Spirit, I just asked God to have me speak in tongues because I know I couldn't do it on my own. I knew I needed God to give me something I didn't have before. Don't be discouraged because you don't have tongues yet! Brother, keep seeking God for the gift of tongues and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. You may need to stay in prayer for a while and shut out all distractions. You may begin to feel a tingling sensation in or near your mouth or lips or jaw. I think the Holy Spirit does that for us as a sign to open our mouths in obedience and ask Him to let the supernatural prayer language flow out. I join you in your prayer for tongues! May the Lord give you your godly heart's desire for more of Him. Blessings

Moritz A. Thank you. You are on the right path my brother. I know that your ministry is very powerful and you are doing very well. You are a breath of fresh air. I was at the hospital a few months ago while my Aunt was in the ER. and as I was leaving God said to go and pray for that man in the wheel-chair. I didn't want to because I already walked out but he was speaking to my spirit. So I went back in asked the lady at the front desk a question and then turned straight to this man in the wheel chair. I told him I had to pray for Him, and he said "I have been praying to God to send somebody for me and you just came here." While I was praying for him, he began praying in tongues and the power and spirit was there all over us, I asked him to pray for me to receive tongues and he began prophesying over me and said my ministry will deliver many people and set them free. Don't listen to your family or your friends or the devil. I was shocked at all that he said. But after this my brother in the Lord was telling his wife what this man said to me and when he repeated what this man was saying to me the Holy Spirit fell on her in great power she could barely talk. she told me it was confirmation of what this man was saying. Be Blessed and Keep ministering and sharing the Word of God you are doing wonderful.

@@JesusisHere777 Thank you for your words of validation and for sharing that testimony! God bless you. That's powerful stuff. God has got you marked out for something amazing. When I read your testimony there I was reminded of how Simeon prophesied to Mary the mother of Jesus. I'm also reminded of how Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, prophesied when his tongue was loosed and he could speak plainly again after many months of having been made mute by Gabriel. (I read these passages just recently so that's probably why I thought of them. But they're kind of similar to your story!) Recently, I've been hearing God through His people on RU-vid giving prophetic words. God is positioning His people for big things and we're entering a glorious season with promotion. (With promotion and repayment for God's faithful people, I really want to just go lower and lower still in humility and not become puffed up with what God will entrust us with.) Just in very recent days I've gotten to listening to Doug Addison, Nicole Samudio, and Inez Marrinan. God has spoken to me through these people and I thought I'd share this with you. I really haven't seen much of them, so I don't know much of what they're about except that they love the Lord and are sharing what they believe God has spoken to them. All that to say, they may be worth checking out for you if you haven't already. (I'm new to prophetic things like this.) Let's loosely keep in touch. I look forward to hearing what the Lord will do in, for, and through you in days to come. I really see Him using you in the love and supernatural of God. Blessings

Well what I have learned about speaking in tongues is tongues are about human languages when God made different languages from the tower of Babel he made different tongues , in the Bible we are called to preach the gospel to all Nations, people and tongues (languages) at Pentecost when they started to speak in tongues, they were speaking in different languages and everyone heard it in there own language, the gift of tongues is speaking in a language previously not learned, that's why Paul says we need an interpreter to be with us so when we speak to someone in there tongue everyone else may know what we're saying (example: if you spoke Spanish and I never knew Spanish but while trying to talk to you about the gospel I instantly start speaking Spanish that's speaking in tongues unlearned but a friend can interpret it to others)

According to the original Greek, that the N.T. was written in, the word "tongues" is defined as " another language" and " a language", Both singular. It is the " unknown tongue" that " No man knows" Paul spoke of in 1Cor.14:2. If no man knows it then it's not a language native to this world.

The “tongues” Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians are producing today is an entirely self-created phenomenon. It is non-cognitive non-language utterance; random free vocalization based upon a subset of the existing sounds (phonemes) of the speaker’s native language, and any other language(s) the speaker may be familiar with or have had contact with. It is, in part, typically characterized by repetitive syllables, plays on sound patterns and over-simplification of syllable structure. One of the more noticeable results of these processes is that no two ‘speakers’ will ever have the same “tongue”. With respect to the modern phenomenon, what Pentecostal/Charismatic Christians are doing today, 150 years ago, did not exist as a part of the Christian tradition. People believe something to be supernatural because they can't explain it otherwise. There are, of course, many things in religion which must be taken on faith; they can neither be proved nor disproved. "Tongues" however, is not one of these things. It is something very tangible; it is a phenomenon which can be (and has been) studied and analyzed. There is absolutely _nothing_ that “tongues-speakers” are producing that cannot easily be explained in natural and/or linguistic terms. Conversely, when it comes to something spoken, there are absolutely no Biblical references to “tongues” that do not refer to, and cannot be explained in light of, real rational language(s). Modern tongues is just another _tool_ , like chanting or meditation, etc.; a way by which one may establish a closer relationship with the divine and strengthen one’s spiritual path. In this respect (i.e. as the _tool_ it is), it can be quite powerful one to accomplish these goals, as attested by many of those who use it. Most people who use ‘tongues’ are very keen on describing the ‘experience’. Indeed, for those that use it, it is very psychologically fulfilling. It’s almost like primal screaming. When people practice ‘tongues’, they feel a sense of sweet release in that all stress can be gone after the experience. People can describe the experience, but in examining the “mechanics” behind it, not so much. When a person has experienced tongues, s/he is absolutely convinced as to the ‘scripturalness’ of his/her experience and the correctness of his/her doctrinal beliefs - this, despite the overwhelming scriptural absence of anything remotely akin to it. Mind you, I'm not doubting or questioning the 'experience'; as mentioned, glossolalia as the tool that it is, can be very powerful. It is important to note however that this same statement can be made for virtually any other culture that practices glossolalia. “Tongues” is to some Christian believers a very real and spiritually meaningful experience, but consisting of emotional release via non-linguistic ‘free vocalizations’ at best - the subconscious playing with sounds to create what is perceived and interpreted as actual, meaningful speech. In _some_ cases, I would argue that it is clearly a self/mass delusion prompted by such a strong desire to “experience God” that one creates that experience. Known by many different names, “tongues”, or more accurately “glossolalia”, is practiced by many cultures and religious beliefs from all over the world; it is relatively new to Christianity and certainly not unique to it. As an aside - there are many reports in the tongues-speaking community of people speaking in tongues and having it understood as a real, rational language; however, every single one of these stories is anecdotal at best. There is typically very little detail provided about both the speaker and hearer(s). Some reports border on urban legend (particularly the ones where the speaker is supposedly speaking Hebrew/Aramaic). There is no actual documented case of xenoglossy - anywhere. Being a linguist, I honestly wish there were; that would be fascinating, but there just isn't.

You have made a thought out attempt to explain speaking in tongues But you can't explain something spiritual through logic, philosophy, or by comparing it to hearsay accounts explaining it by the actions of non christian religions. The fact that it has occurred in these pagan based religions only confirms it existence. Is it any wonder that these ungodly religions should imitate it to bring the actual, real manifestations into question. In the original Koine greek, that the N.T. was written in, the word " tongues" is defined as " another language" and " a language". According to the correct interpretation of the English word " tongues" it is a singular language. Paul describes it in 1Cor.14:2 as the " unknown tongue" that " No man knoweth" between a born again Christian and God. If " No man knows it "then it's not a language native this planet. As an example, in Acts ch.2 when the apostles recieved the Holy Spirit they all were speaking the same spiritual language all believers today speak when born again. Three times in chapter two the men in the crowd said " How HEAR we them speak in our languages?" The miracle for the men in the crowd wasn't that the apostles were miraculously speaking in their individual languages but that they understood what the apostles were saying in one language in their individual languages. God gave them the interpretations as a sign. In Acts ch.2 three times believers recieved the Holy Spirit and in all three instances the first thing that happened was that they spoke in " tongues" Acts ch.3, 10, and 19. Could you really stand before God and tell Him that you never saw sufficient proof that when a believer recieved the Holy Spirit that they spoke in " tongues"? There have always been believers that spoke in "tongues" from Pentecost up to today. Persecution of the children of God was continual. According to Foxes Book Of Martyrs all of the apostles, including Paul were martyred by the end of the first century except for the apostle John. From persecutions by Neros' Rome, by the Roman Catholic church and even by prorestants they were hunted and killed with their writings destroyed. Jesus said " Narrow is the way and FEW There be that find it". That's because seekers were diverted by false teachers and preachers that gave them a counterfeit form of Christianity more to their liking but not in line with Gods' plan of salvation for man. By teachers who themselves hadn't recieved the Holy Spirit with the biblical proof of speaking in " tongues". The blind leading the blind. And when they were confronted with biblical proof concerning the initial sign of recieving the Holy Spirit their fleshy pride wouldn't let them humble themselves and admit that they were wrong.

@@robertnieten7259 Due to length, this will need to be done in 3 parts - Part 1 - Glossolalia predates Christianity by millennia. It is the phenomenon of modern tongues-speech that has ‘borrowed’ the concept. The word ‘glôssa’ in Greek, when it comes to something spoken, means simply ‘language’ and refers t real, rational language. 1Cor. 14:2 is perhaps *the* quintessential verse used by many to “evidence” modern tongues-speech in the Bible. Let’s paraphrase this verse into a more modern English. To do this, you need to get rid of the added “unknown”, use a more accurate translation from the Greek, and a more modern rendering of the archaic “tongue” - Once done, we have something more like this - “He that speaks in a language isn’t speaking to others, but only to God; no one hears [him] with understanding; nevertheless, though he’s praying in the Spirit, he’s speaking mysteries.” The whole passage is talking about real, rational language. Let me use an analogy - If I attend a worship service in “East Haystack”, some remote town in the US out in the middle of nowhere, two things are going to be evident: one; there’s only going to be so many people at that service (i.e. there will be a finite given amount of people there) and two; the chances that anyone speaks anything *but* English is pretty slim to nil. If I start praying aloud in say Lithuanian, there’s no one at that service that’s going to understand a single word I’m saying. Even though I’m speaking a real language, no one _there_ will understand my “tongue”. That does not mean or imply that no one else understands Lithuanian; just no one at _that particular service._ In this sense, therefore, I am speaking _only to God,_ since he understands all languages. To everyone at the service, even though I’m praying in the Spirit (as defined in my original post), to the people listening to me, I’m still speaking “mysteries” - i.e. even though I’m praying as I ought, no one understands me; no one has a clue what I’m saying as no one speaks my language. When one looks at the original Greek, the verb which is usually translated as “understandeth/understands” is actually the verb “to hear” in the sense of understanding what you’re hearing someone say. The verb is *not* “to understand”. That part of the verse is more properly “no one hears [him] with understanding”, i.e. no one listening to him understands what he’s saying. There is _nothing_ in this passage that suggests modern tongues-speech nor is there anything that even _remotely_ suggests that the speaker does not understand what he himself is saying. The Greek bears this out; it is the _listeners_ who do not understand, *not* the speaker - no matter how hard modern tongues-speakers want the speaker to also not understand…….it just isn’t there. As far as the Pentecost narrative goes, The phrase “in their native language” modifies the verb “speaking” in verse 6, not the verb “hearing.” The apostles were speaking real, rational languages.

@@robertnieten7259 Part 2 - One of the main tenants of some Christian denominations is the concept of “Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues”. This is seemingly evidenced in three places in Biblical texts; Pentecost, Peter’s meeting with Cornelius, and Paul’s encounter in Ephesus. On closer examination of the texts, and taking into account both the historical backdrops and linguistic landscapes of all three scenes, what we discover is that the only “tongues” people were speaking were their own native languages; real rational language(s) - not modern tongues-speech. Each of these examples would take a few pages to explain properly; so, for the sake of brevity, I’m considerably simplifying and summarizing the below. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit gave the 12 apostles (yes, 12, not 120, but that’s a story for another day) what in the Greek text is “apophtheggesthai” - usually translated as “to give utterance”. This is not, however, the most accurate translation of this Greek word, but it’s the one that has come to be the more or less ‘de facto’ rendering. This word is from “apophtheggomai” which is best translated as “to give bold, authoritative, inspired speech to” (don’t go to Strong’s and look it up - “Strong’s” is a _concordance_ , not a lexicon; there’s a _huge_ difference). It refers *not* to the content of the speech (i.e., the language), but rather to the *manner* of speaking. In each instance where this word occurs in scripture, the person's speech is bold, authoritative, and inspired and it is always, by the way, in the speaker’s native language. In short, the Holy Spirit did not give the _language_ of the utterance (i.e. the content), it gave the _manner_ in which it was uttered. The Jews present at Pentecost, as we are told, came from three areas: Judea, the Western Diaspora and the Eastern Diaspora. “All nations under heaven” is an idiomatic expression - Acts II: 9-11 tells us where those visiting were from. Jews from Judea spoke Aramaic as their mother tongue. I don’t think there’s any argument there. Jews from the Western Diaspora spoke Greek - all those lands had been Hellenized for centuries and Greek had long displaced indigenous languages. Eastern Diaspora was different - no Hellenization and countries had their own languages. Though people in Jewish communities in these lands spoke the local languages in varying degrees of fluency, it was never their ‘mother tongue’. For Jews in the Eastern Diaspora, the language of ‘hearth and home’, the language they were “born into” was Aramaic. This language was one of the things that set them apart as being Jewish. Many lands, many places and people, but only two languages; Aramaic and Greek; and of course, the apostles spoke both. Something to think about - In the entire Pentecost narrative, not one language is ever referenced by name. Why do you suppose that is? The “list of nations”, as it’s called, of Acts 2: 9-11 is simply that - a list of countries, lands and nations that tell us where these people were from; *not* what language(s) they spoke, as most people assume. The miracle of language at Pentecost was making the God of the Jews accessible to all people and moreover, not having to do so in one prescribed language; namely, Hebrew, the sacerdotal language of Judaism. Jewish religious custom and tradition demanded that any teaching, praying, reading, prophesying, etc. dome from the temple (where the apostles were) be rendered _first_ in Hebrew, then followed by a translation into the vernacular. There even existed an ecclesiastical office for the individuals who did these translations (called the ‘mertugem’). On Pentecost, the apostles broke this tradition and “began to speak in ‘other’ (i.e. _other_ than Hebrew) languages (Aramaic and Greek), as the Holy Spirit kept giving a bold, authoritative, inspired manner of speaking to them. The apostles, by help and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, did away with this cultural and religious tradition, and addressed the crowd in Greek and Aramaic; the mother tongue of the attendees, instead of the culturally and religiously correct, and expected, tradition of Hebrew first, then translations into the vernaculars. Doing this from the Temple where they were, broke a slew of cultural and religious taboos. The shock to the crowd was that they did not first hear the expected and culturally correct Hebrew first, then vernaculars. Further added to the crowd’s reaction was to hear Galileans (the “country bumkins” of their day) speak so boldly, completely inspired, and with such authority. To suggest, as the apostles did that the God of the Jews was now available to non-Jews and in any language, completely dispensing with Hebrew altogether was tantamount to heresy; hence also part of the crowd's reaction. In addition to the above, according to the Pentecost narrative, there were around 3,000 people who were baptized on Pentecost. If these 3,000 were 'baptized in the Spirit', I would think that at the very least, according to some Pentecostal/Charismatic beliefs, they should have starting “speaking in tongues”. Yet *nothing* of the sort is recorded. Certainly 3,000+ people “speaking in tongues" would at least merit a sentence or two in the narrative, wouldn’t it? If one argues they were not baptized in the spirit, but only in water, not only would the apostles have been violating a slew of work prohibitions on a high holy day (and would not likely have been allowed to do such a thing), considering one of the main focuses of the day was about being baptized in the Holy Spirit, that would be a rather anti-climactic ending to the narrative, wouldn’t it? No xenoglossy, no modern tongues-speech, just real, rational language(s). There was a language miracle at Pentecost provided by the Holy Spirit; just not the one most people assume. And of course, again, when the apostles received the Holy Spirit, the only tongues (read ‘languages’) spoken were their own.

@@robertnieten7259 Part 3 - Peter and Cornelius - A Roman soldier’s “household” typically consisted of his immediate family, a retinue of fellow soldiers, and numerous slaves. His relatives, like Cornelius, would have presumably spoken Latin. Educated Romans would have also spoken Greek over Latin. Fellow soldiers also spoke Latin, but as Roman soldiers they could have come from just about anywhere in the Empire. Likewise, and especially, his slaves. For these latter two groups, Latin and Greek would have likely been second/third languages. In short, though his fellow soldiers, and his slaves, spoke Latin, it may not at all have been their native language(s). His slaves almost certainly not. Like the soldiers, their native language(s) could have come from anywhere in the Roman Empire. In Cornelius’ household, we have several people who comprised a multi-lingual group. We must also surmise that most of this company also spoke Greek in varying degrees. From the narrative, we know that the incident is reported from the perspective of Peter and his group, and “They (Peter and his company) heard them speaking in languages (“tongues”) and praising God”. From this, we can deduce two types of speech here: (1) speech that Peter and his group understood, and (2) speech they did not understand. Considering Peter and his company report in the narrative that they knew that some of what was said were praises to God, it must have been said in a language they knew (likely Greek, but possibly some recognized Latin). Some of what was said however, they did not understand because it was foreign to them. Peter and his company did not speak, nor apparently recognize, those languages. When a bi-lingual or multi-lingual speaker utters something suddenly/spur of the moment in an emotional outburst (not to be taken with any negative connotations), the speaker will _always_ revert to their native language. That’s just a known fact. These people here were in the same situation and reverted to languages Peter and his company did not speak. Hence, as far as Peter and his company were concerned, they began “speaking in tongues (read “languages”)”. The reference to the situation being just as it was on Pentecost is a reference to the manner in which they were speaking (i.e. declaring the mighty works of God in a “bold and authoritative manner”), just as the apostles did on Pentecost - it has nothing to do with what language they were speaking, but rather the _manner_ in which they were speaking, that was the same as on Pentecost. No modern tongues-speech here; just unrecognized real languages. Paul in Ephesus - Like Corinth, Ephesus was a cultural melting pot. It’s quite possible, and given what happened based on the narrative, quite probable, that these individuals were not native Ephesians; thus, not native speakers of Greek. Again, there are two types of speech referenced here: one that Paul understood, and one he did not. We are not told what the native language of Paul’s new friends was. It appears however, that both these people and Paul conversed in the ‘common tongue’ of the day: Greek; a language Paul understood. When Paul baptized them, they may have simply been, out of joy of receiving the Holy Spirit one may assume, expressing themselves in their native language; one that Paul was obviously not familiar with. The fact that they began speaking in a language unknown to Paul, further lends to the idea that these believers were not native Ephesians. No modern tongues-speech, just the unnamed native language of these disciples. In all three cases, the only “initial evidence of tongues” is these believers’ own native languages; understood by them, but not always understood by those hearing them. Zero modern tongues-speech here folks. What people are doing today did not exist in the Christian tradition until relatively recently in time. Modern tongues-speech is what it is; non-cognitive non-language utterance. There just isn’t anything you’re producing that cannot be explained in light of relatively simple linguistics.

Gods ways are NOT ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). God does things in HIS order. The human MUST start with God's perspective, when anything is coming from Him. Against that backdrop, in Acts 2, "tongues" means "languages". When the "gift of languages" was "given" (not learned), people from neighboring regions could hear "the wonderful works of God" in their own native language. In I Corinthians 14, the word "unknown" is in "italics", because that word was not in the original manuscript. The languages were "KNOWN"; the "mysteries" were NOT. Since we are "FOLLOWING" Christ, for those who supposedly speak in "languages" today, what are the names of the languages, and from what region do they "hail" from?

In the original Greek that the N.T. was written in the word " tongues" mean " another language" and " a language" both mean one spiritual language not multiple native languages.

Sid Roth has so many blatant issues and errors. You aren't seeing clearly if you love everything about him. Also, the gift of toungues was for the Jews and also it is not for Believers. Paul clarifies this in 1 Corinthians. Also, the book of Acts is not a safe place to take doctrine from because the Church was still learning and being established. 1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a SIGN, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: KJV. 1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a SIGN, NOT TO THEM THAT BELIEVE, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. KJV Tongues were a sign for unbelieving Jews during the first century. They ceased existing and are no longer needed or gifted by God because God isn't seeking the Jew per'se because they are blinded by God and cast off for the Gentiles sakes for now. Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that BLINDNESS in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. KJV I have much more to say but I watched the whole video and you do not have the gift of tongues. No one does today and I've never heard a Biblical testimony of recieving tongues. The testimonies just as yours are always contradictory to the Scripture in numerous ways. Also, why do you and these cultists today get so excited about the least of all the gifts. Paul encouraged the Church to pray to prophecy not to speak in tongues. Actually, nowhere in the Bible are you told to pray for tongues. 1 Corinthians 14:23-24 verse 23 is negative and verse 24 is positive incase you miss the Holy Spirit's point here. 23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that areunlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: Anyways, take care and believe your King James Bible.

@@ayhwhruach4277 Scripture never lies. Also, the only time in Scripture when anyone falls down with God is on their face in worship or fear. Never backwards in convulsive unbiblical possessions. Plus the fruits of these movements are completely feeling based minus any facts. You're right that God is tge same today and what you are referring to is not anywhere close to what God has revealed historically or especially in Scripture. These apostates even call their movement "the signs and wonders movement", this is their Bible verse sadly where God clearly describes them, Matthew 24:24 "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." I'm sorry you're being tossed to and fro. Christians must grow up from babehood and you're commanded yo do so, Ephesians 4:14 "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;" In short, trusting and taking God at his own infallible word is how you grow up into the image of Christ in truth and love. Take care.

It sounds like you have the wrong Idea of speaking in tongues is. It is speaking in another langue where others know what you are saying and you can know what they are saying. Gen_10:20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations. Gen_10:31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. Isa_66:18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Act 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Act 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. Act 2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? Act 2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Act 2:9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Act 2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Act 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. Act 2:12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Act 2:13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

Hello brother. Thanks for your comment! (Did you watch my whole video?) I've heard so many great testimonies of tongues and its different facets over the past several months! Thank you for your interest, by the way. I know that God wants to show us all more of His fullness. I think it's vital we don't put God in a box--He is too big for that. If you want to hear more about tongues, please read this comment. I put some stories in here. Thank you for your time. Here are some revealing stories/tidbits: Surprise Sithole, an African pastor, speaks several languages he never learned--God gave him the ability/gift. He can share the Gospel with people of other languages. (1 Cor. 12 speaks of a gift called "diverse tongues" or "kinds of tongues." Maybe this is that, or an aspect of it.) I also know of an African sister who's received multiple languages from God. She also preaches to people to whom she otherwise could not verbally share the Gospel! Glory to God. There's a testimony video I saw of a teenage brother sharing how he, being on the mission field, received emotional news about a relative's death. He went and prayed in tongues to the Lord, crying out to him. Unbeknownst to him, local people listened in. I believe this was in Nepal. So they asked him after a while, "Where did you learn to speak Nepalese?" He hadn't realized that he was speaking in their language! He asked what he was saying, and they told him he was speaking to God about the pain and the whole situation. This cheered this brother up! God was moving. (This was a YWAM-Youth With a Mission testimony. I tried, but couldn't find the video again.) David C. Hairabedian, a brother who spent nearly 20 years in prison, has many incredible testimonies. One such testimony about tongues is what I want to share. He was with two people, one was a man who knew Hebrew fluently, the other knew Spanish (and could pray in tongues). They were praying, and the Hispanic brother spoke in fluent Hebrew for a bit. He also didn't realize it. Mel Tari, author of "Like a Mighty Wind" (in which he shares about the great Indonesian Revival of the '60s), has an incredible testimony of tongues. In his church, in 1965, an almost exact reenactment of Acts 2 happened. He and others were praying in the church, and there were tongues of fire above their heads. Glory fire was on the church so that people came rushing to put out the fire. People literally spoke in diverse languages: English, German, French, Hebrew... They were from Timor, Indonesia. They hadn't learned these languages. You can check out these stories for yourself. Either they are liars, lunatics, or they are genuine and telling the truth. Thank you for your time, brother. This comment became longer than I anticipated. God bless.

Not in the Bible dear. When we are baptized by the holy spirit we receive an unknown tongue for communicating directly with God, aka praying in the spirit. Why do you think some at Pentecost accused the apostles of being drunk? They were all speaking in an unknown tongue. Those who heard EACH in their OWN language were part of the supernatural experience, EACH given the gift of interpretation that EACH heard THEIR OWN language, aka DIVERSE TONGUES. Until you encounter this supernatural experience of the baptism of the holy spirit, you will never understand what the Bible is saying. There are various types of tongues and the Corinthians knew which tongues Paul was referring to and when.

The word "tongues" has been misunderstood in Acts 2.It wasn't multiple believers speaking in multiple earthly languages, it was more than one believer speaking in what Paul refered to as the " tongue of angels".Three times in Acts ch.2 it says how " hear" we them in our own language. The miracle for those in the crowd was that God allowed them to understand what the apostles were saying in an angelic language in their language. In 1Cor.14:2 Paul said that" he that speaketh in an ( unknown) tongue speaks to God not man for No Man understandeth him" If "no man understandeth him" then it's not an earthly language.

Brother, you're so hung up on these "tongues" you don't even understand, nor will they truly edify since you don't even know what you're saying or who is speaking. When you should be praying for the gifts mentioned first; wisdom (so you can apply what the Word says), knowledge (of the Word of God), faith (having faith in Jesus Christ our Lord), healing (to the glory of Jesus), the working of miracles (to the glory of Jesus), prophecy (to the glory of God and the edification of the hearer), discernment of spirits (to be able to identify false doctrines, or if demonic spirits are behind something, to the glory of Jesus, and the edification of the one being reproved). I love you as a brother, listen to God when he reproves you. For whom the Lord loveth, he scourgeth. Divers kinds of tongues, means many kinds of languages. This means God's Spirit is the one responsible for all good things and God by His providence can give you the gift of being bilingual or trilingual or whatnot, so you can reach more people. In my case I am fully bilingual in Spanish and English. I can't say I'm great at interpreting though, so I don't have that gift of the Spirit per say, but I do have a close friend who worked as a Spanish/English translator in churches here in Honduras. So let it be clear that every time the word tongue comes out, you can safely translate it language, and these are only inteligible languages, not babble people can't understand, which is confusion. And we know who the author of confusion is. Satan. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. The verses you read in 1 Corinthians 14:1-4 are a rebuke to the most carnal Church in the entire New Testament. Paul is criticizing them for not prophesying and edifying the Church. Instead they are as barbarians speaking in UNKNOWN tongues. That means gibberish. This is not a passage of Scripture supporting your error. It strongly rebukes you and others. I'm sorry for you being tricked by all of this...

I'm afraid you are mistaken."Speaking in "tongues" is one spiritual language and is a result of the Spirit baptism which is when we recieve the Holy Spirit. We pray in our language and the indwelling Spirit prays with us and for us in His language. It has never been earthly languages. The miracle and testimony for the hearers was the Spirit allowing them to "hear" in the language what was being spoken , in what Paul calls" the tongue of angels".

Paul was explaining that the unknown tongue was useless for teaching or conversation with other believers. But he encourages the believer to pray and sing in the spirit - unto God.

Nowhere in Acts do you find the term "Baptism of the Holy Ghost" in connection with speaking in tongues. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is related to salvation and not tongues (1st Corinthians 12:13). There is NO command in the Bible to speak with unknown tongues. A person who does not have the Holy Spirit is not saved (Romans 8:9 and 1st John 4:13). A wicked generation seeks a sign (Matthew 12:39). The tongues movement of today is NOT Acts 2 tongues, but the CARNAL tongues of 1st Corinthians. The tongues of the Bible (in both Acts and 1 Corinthians) were always understandable, known, established, earthly, languages; not indiscernible sounds and utterances as used by the Charismatic Movement today in modern times. God always initiated the miracle of tongues in the Bible, not men (Acts 2 and 10). In sharp contrast, men initiate the false tongues spoken in Pentecostal churches today. The gift of tongues in 1st Corinthians was simply the usage of known languages, which some didn't understand, so Paul told them not to speak in foreign languages in multi-lingual congregations unless an interpreter is present. Notice that the gift of tongues in 1st Corinthians is different than the miracle of tongues in Acts 2. In Acts 2 Peter spoke in Greek, but at least 16 different nations heard each man in his own language.

Hello brother/sister, thank you for your comment. Did you watch my entire testimony? (I share important info in it, for example that I used to consider Charismatic tongues demonic. I hear your concerns, please know that.) I believe every true Christian is one who is born again, with or without tongues. I am concerned that some Charismatic brothers believe non-tongue speaking Christians are lost, likewise that some non-Charismatic Christians say that all Charismatics are lost. I think we need good biblical balance and maturity. From my understanding--and I don't intend to debate, just sharing--there is a difference between the Holy Spirit _IN_ us and the Holy Spirit _UPON_ us. When we're saved the Holy Spirit comes inside us, and He seals us, like Ephesians says. When we're baptized in the Holy Spirit, He comes upon us (Acts 1:8). Luke 24:49 says that we're clothed with the Spirit, and this gives us dynamus (power). I would ask that you hear me out in the video. I want to be authentic, an open living epistle, read and known by all men. Thank you for the interaction. God bless you brother.

You will find that every time baptism of the holy spirit is mentioned in scripture it is accompanied by a sign, always speaking in tongues and/or prophecy. The Bible is straightforward when you have the baptism. The indwelling of the spirit we receive upon initial acceptance of Christ is not the same.. If you spent time with God seeking truth and reading the Bible instead of repeating lies taught to you by scribes, sadduces and pharisees you'd have received the baptism already. LOVE GOD WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART, MIND AND SOUL.. This isn't easy to begin with but if you can put God first for a few weeks, night and day, He will baptize you and you will speak in tongues. Then, with the Holy Spirit leading you, putting God first will become second nature, you won't have to try any more and you'll be qualified to understand what the Bible actually says.

Acts 19:2 ...“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” Obviously it is possible to believe and be born again and subsequently receive [more of] the Holy Spirit, otherwise Paul wouldn't have worded it that way. Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” This shows that there is a point in time where it makes sense to pray for the Holy Spirit.
