@@Isaac-wl6wu so she started me off with a prayer asking the lord to recieve. She then said ok i want you to say ahhhhhhh kind of like to start you off (because you have to yield your tongue to the lord and let the holy spirit flow through you). She then said as you're doing that, i want you to move your tongue and lips around. I was a little skeptical but i did it. As i was doing it, she started to speak in tongues and suddenly, i couldn't control my tongue, mouth, or lips. I was speaking really fast and the holy spirit was all around me i could feel it in the room i was in. That's how she taught me :)

Like in Acts 2:6-8 6 And at this sound, the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? -Each of the people, from other different countries ,who were in the room heard the people speaking in tongues in their own language. So if there was a spanish speaker, they head what was being spoken by the tongue-talker in spanish; if there was a Swahili speaker in the room, they heard what was being spoken in Swahili. The speaking of the tongues and the interpretation at the upper room was a miraculous thing that the Holy brought about in the upper room. -If the language was necessarily a human language, why did Paul say this: 1 Corinthians 14:2 For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious AND 1 Corinthians 14:14 Therefore, the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. 14For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. -Also, any foreign language to the untrained ear is nothing more than a bunch of babbling. It makes no sense unless it is interpreted or you learn the language. Try sitting in a bus full of Arabs speaking Arabic.
Great testimony, Nathan :) I received the gift of tongues on August 21, 2015, at 8:30 am, during my recovery after getting out of the hospital. Spontaneous, sudden, unexpected. I had prayed to receive for years! God bless you, my brother!
Alissa Catron this is a great question! I had the same thought as I tried to grow in my understanding of the gift of tongues. But what I’ve found once the gift was “reignited” in me is that You can absolutely pray in tongues at will. I know some people who had a whole vocabulary of tongues sort of downloaded to them when they received the gift, but for me I kind of started out like a baby. I had a tiny little baby phrase that I would just speak over and over, but then the more i “worked out the muscle” it began to grow into a bigger language. And now it even changes when seasons of my life change. It’s very interesting haha I hope this was helpful. When you Ask for the gift of tongues, you may just be given a tiny phrase. That’s okay! Just be faithful with that little and the Lord will expand your prayer language from there 😊
Nathan Griffith wow thanks for the quick response. I actually have known the lord since I was 15, I’m 28 now, but never spoke in tongues until last year! And it was a phrase too. But I had been praying at will, and when I would be in deep worship it would erupt out of me and it began to develop the more I exercised the gift. I told my pastor about it and he said you can’t pray at will, so I sorta stopped, but had such an urge at times to do so. Hearing your testimony sorta solidified in my mind that you can at will. Alissa Catron wow that is amazing! I’m so glad that I could be an encouragement to you. And I’m so glad that this gift has started to come alive within you! I’ve had many people and even leaders in the church try to give me “words of wisdom” concerning this topic who didn’t really understand the gift of tongues like they thought they did. I’ve had to push through those discouragement’s and forgive them and continue on in my journey. So I definitely know what that’s like. Keep fanning into flame the gifts you’ve been given! Work those muscles out! I’m proud of you and encouraged by you, Alissa! 😊
I’ve been praying and hoping for it but I feel like I just speak and try to form the first syllables but I don’t think or know if it’s the Holy Spirit either way can you pray for me please and thanks for posting this it’s very encouraging
