In this video I go spearfishing in Hawaii and am once again joined by Aaron from Aarons Animals. We return to the site we spotted the giant tuna in our last video and this time come prepared with chum and bluewater guns. We have one of the craziest shore dive spearfishing days ever and encounter massive tuna and wahoo. That’s a heart breaker seeing that tuna all those times without the right setup. It always happens, you shoot something closer and available then a dream fish swims by when you’re not ready. Keep up the great work 🤙

Sooo much of my wahoo experience is frustrating. It’s not like I get a lot of opportunities either I just dont target them that often. Spend more time on the reef.

Such a heartbreaker man! I've never seen that before where you hook the floatline to ur reel connection point. I've just always hooked it to the butt of my gun. Any tips for next time hunting wahoo?

Captain Jack Spearo I was just being lazy and didn’t want to setup the breakaway. Thought I might do some deep reef with the big gun too. The theory behind not connecting to the butt was that for a really big tuna the reel connection would be under a lot of pressure. Eliminated that failure point by clipping to the connection but gabe up the option to play a fish lightly on the reel. Either way was heartbroken...

Question for you: When I'm hunting at 90ft I can barely grunt, it's literally the sadest grunt you'll ever hear. I feel like I have no air in my throat to do so. How can I improve that?

It’s all flexibility or rather compressibility. The more comfortably you can compress the more air available for equalizing. Keep practicing and be carefully grunting deeper than feels ok because you can get squeezed.

I’ve never cooked the big ones myself but I’ve definitely eaten them. I’ll do a catch and cook with them eventually for sure. Lots of people eat them here and around the world.

Man, that sucks to see all that line down there. Somebody should get some scuba and clean it all up, though don't think someone could get much done with the decompression time that would be involved, and free diving would take forever.

the tourists on SUPs and kayaks are a worry, too! they come zooming thru, often erratically, and don't seem to get what a dive flag, snorkel or head is... :D i get it, though! brand new adventures for them, and they're more focused on staying upright or paddling straight than to watch out for divers! the boats, however.... that's a different story! stay alert and alive! :)

JustNickingAround really try and stay light and nimble on the reef. Hate dragging a line of I’m hunting reef fish. Just kinda impractical. I know scuba guys do it and some people might clip a small gun or three prong to the float but I usually don’t.

Hey Greg I do what we call “hands free” there’s some stuff online about it but it’s pretty difficult to learn. Most of the guys I know that do it have done it since they were kids.

Sorry but please be more conservative. I'm glad you are eating the fish but there are bigger Joe louis out there. Another thing to remember is "teach a man to fish, feed him for a life." . . . "Teach the world to fish, your fishing grounds for your true friends and ohana disappear." Sorry to say but it's true. Ask an "ole timer." Don't want to hate but just want to conserve some of the grounds for future gen. I personally would love to have a million subscribers but we got 1 life ... just make the best of it! Be safe aloha!

Actually better to shoot smaller fish as long as they are within the legal size limits if they are a regulated species. The bigger the fish the more they are able to reproduce! Leaving the larger fish and taking the smaller ones will allow for quicker population restocking. A 14 Inch omilu can produce 49,700 eggs while a 27 inch omilu can produce 4.27. MILLION eggs. That’s 86 times more. So harvesting a 27 inch omilu is like harvesting 86 14 inch omilu. Aloha

No offense or anything but before taking people out diving that aren’t from here (which I guess includes u as well) u should educate them on legal size limits of fish so they aren’t just shooting anything. Opelu kala need to be At least 16 inches. There are also size minimums for many other reef fish. Aloha
