The banter is (more than) half of the fun. IMHO, having the stairs at the entrance defeats the purpose of having the entry point up high. Ladders would be better. Mobs can walk up stairs, but they cannot climb ladders. Then again, you could have half the height in stairs and jump the rest. (My bases tend to have built-in jump locations to force me to raise that skill.) (Edit) I don't think any structures in BF have bees - only in Meadows.

Flint spears, as you later observe, are amazing at the very beginning of the game. Arguably the best weapon of the meadows. Knives are also nice, and have their advantages, but the sheer flexibility and power of the flint spear is just sooooo goooood, especially given the cheap price of manufacture. 4:02 Waffles: "Now let's get arrested." Me: I don't think I heard that properly.... 5:22 Waffles mutters, while on fire: "... every time". Me (smiling): Never change Waffles. Never change. 5:51 Waffles (and me as well): "Oh boy! I have no real knowledge or experience of editing, but I imagine that kind of thing would qualify as a "pro move". 16:07 Oh look. Utter chaos, heralded by a massive understatement, punctuated with death by announcer's curse. Yet more Quintessential Waffles & Glitchy. Or maybe Glitchy & Waffles. Either way, I love it. 20:00 This whole extended sequence was just great. The excitement, the shock and frustration at the miss, and then the jubilation of persistence ultimately rewarded at 21:18 ... Great stuff. 24:36 Perfect illustration of one of the spear's few downsides: the huge radius of noise it generates. Your thrown spear kills the deer (nice shot), and alerts the boar who immediately charges you. Now, what gets you in trouble is when that boar has buddies nearby in the brush who ALSO hear the spear and the three of them become guided piggie-missiles intent on kicking your unarmed viking butt. You are absolutely right when you say that it is really nice to have a second weapon when using a spear to hunt. Also, early in the game you should not throw a spear at an apparently lone boar in thick underbrush. It's a trap.

I dare you to try spear+tower shield combo. It's a hidden OP combination that elevates those two weapons together. Just spam throw while menacigly walking towards an enemy with your shield raised, not worrying being vulnerable while picking up the spear

I never use a shield, except maybe vs bonemass. I find that every-time I could block, easier to just evade or roll, and less stuff to carry around constantly, with limited inventory. Also yes, spears all the way! I love getting a flint spear and start hunting trolls for blue armor as my first thing. Ya can easily kill em just spear and nothing, as long as you rested, stam regen is enough.
