If your NB1 or 1999-2000 Miata runs like crap or dies this just might be the fix you are looking for. Follow these easy step by step instructions to replace the Cam Sensor connector, a common problem with NB1 Miata's.

Thank you for this info. We run a 99 in Lemons and haven't had a issue YET. I will get this connector replaced before we do so we wont have issues at the track. BTW we own a screen printing and embroidery business and can do those shirts for you😏 I dont think to are far from you.

Check out the kit from Ballenger Motorsports if you're not already familiar with it. It's not cheap but is easy to install and SM legal. The only downside is I believe you have to run their sensors as the pigtail and sensor are one piece.

Another informative video, Al. Thanks. Anything electrical just scares me off, because I don't understand it. When the need arises for one of your cars, can you do a video to check for example if it is the battery, the starter or the alternator that is broken? I'd like to know where you put the clamps of the multimeter and what do you measure for each application. Is it Voltage (and at what setting), is it Amps or Ohms, etc? I know that's really basic, but I imagine there's other noobs here too. Thanks.

I've been chasing a hardstart/misfire problem for weeks. Ended up changing the cam position sensor. Fingers crossed this is the solution

Make sure you replace that connector they have caused me many sleepless nights. Also try and use only a factory sensor. Don't even get me started on those things.

Thank you for the explanation. You said you found out it had a 4:10, what is the easiest way to determine the ratio, i.e. 4:10 vs 4:3?

Well you really need to pull it and count the teeth. I could tell on the race track because all of my shift points were delayed. It also had no pull out of the turns and I fell back from the pack out of the turns. It started to catch them at the end of the straits. So yeah 4:10 gears. It should have 4:30. Good news is it is a torsen. I could tell since it didn’t have any wheel spin on turns

My 99 has developed a thing where it hesitates around 3,500 in gear driving

My NB is having a issue when i start it it’ll turn over, and run for 5-30 seconds, the rpm’s will go up to about 2k and down to about 500, and the car will eventually die, i adjusted the timing, it was off by a tooth, but still the same issue, ordered this part, hopefully it’ll be my fix

Would this be the issue on my 03 uk spec nevada 1.8? It doesn't start from cold and then it will all of a sudden start with no issues this could be after 2 minutes or 20 minutes then once the engine is warm and I turn it off it won't start again but it will on the 2nd or 3rd attempt guaranteed. It's driving me mad.

Good vid. I'm struggling atm. Mk2 1999. No engine management light. No sparks. No fueling. Power to inj fuse and resistance on fuse. Check the other room/engine/1a/b fuses has resistance. So my next step is power to ecu? Everything seems fine tho. But still cranks but no spark no fuel won't start any ideas?

It could be that the ECU can not ground everything. It’s all related what ever it is. I know if you leave one of the ground wire off on a miata, when replacing the engine it has those same symptoms.

Mine too.in my cam and crank sensor test, the 0 and 5 volts would alternate staying at 0 and 5 volts every few passes with a wrench. Both sensor failed the test the same way.

@@htrobertsyo did this fix it for your friend. I’m having something similar going on. Car will stay on and drive fine but then it will stall/ shut off. I’m able to restart it just after a few minutes. Seems to happen more on hotter weather

Im having a crank no start on my 2000 nb I Have good fuel pressure as the pump and filter is new, and i have good pressure after the fuel damper. Its a crank no start with a spudder while cranking, i can get the car started with brake cleaner in the intake but when the alternate fuel runs out the car dies and back to crank no start with spudder (backfire like). Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having problems with my UK 98 nb1, crank pulley wobble and what seems like ignition break up around 3k rpm but changes when i move the sensor, any ideas?

I would try a cranksaver first. I have used them a couple of times and they work great

Hi Al ! I am having similar issues to what you are describing with my 91 miata, the car stalls when hot, I already replaced CAS, Coil Pack, Fuel Pump, plugs and wires and the problem is still there, do you happen to know if this connector causes issues on NA Miatas too ?

My 2002 1.8 doesn't want to start and has turned off once while driving. Check engine code is p1345. My friend fixed this issue for me by cleaning the cranck position sensor and now the issue is back after a week. Could this be a cam connector issue or do i need a new cranck sensor?

Cam / crank sensor or so called distributor at back of exhaust bank . Will need a timing light to set adjust . Let me know if it you need help

@@MazdaTech-dt7dq I don't understand which sensor you are talking about. My cam sensor is at the top of the valve cover. Passenger rear side. My crack sensor is at the bottom front of the engine looking at the crank pulley. Also a little update. I fixed the issue the same day I posted the question above. I just set a proper distance between the crank sensor and the pulley. Yesterday however it left me stranded 120km from home. I thought the sensor was faulty and I'm stuck for good. But after setting the crank sensor a little bit closer to the pulley (didn't have the feeler gauge with me so I did it by eye) the car turned on and no check engine light was there.

Hummmm as I think back I can not remember replacing it and it fixed it. I’ve replaced them with an original Mazda just to be safe
