Wow! Super report. Loved all the various bikes. This is the first time that I've seen this and I'm so surprised AND impressed that there is this kind of a regular event that's been going on for more than a decade (correct?). Great report again. Quattrovelo and Mulsanne are just beautiful. I need a velomobile that has two-sided rear fork, because i favor direct drive motors. I might have to build a new rear fork if i would buy one of those commercial velomobiles. Two of the most beautiful velomobiles, Veloschmitt and Aventybike from Poland, sadly did not join the Spezi show.

Hey Gary, Been waiting impatiently for this edition, and then my Internet connection goes down just as it comes out! :-(. REALLY impressed with the production, looking slick and effortless, which goes to show how much work DID go into it! Glad to see the eCvelo at the show: At one point the Challenger was made in the UK, based on the ICE Sprint. I tried to contact them, but got no response :-(. Good to see it is still being built :-). SO many fantastic machines! What to look at buying ? I think I have found the right one, then along comes another. Thank you all for giving me lots to chew on, I think I will have to watch it again!

Hi Gary, Thanks a million for this SPEZI 2017 report, as I was unable to come this year. Haven't yet seen all of it but I think you covered the general atmosphere already, very well and and you are always your bright jovial yourself. Enthousiasm is sorta oozing from you! Kudos! Interestingly STEPS by Shimano seems to make (pardon the obvious pun) great steps in recumbent land. HP Velotechnik, ICE, AZUB AND Hase already last year or so. Honza (AZUB) said that they liked the NuVinci hub with thr Steps so next time you could "interrogate" him why he is favouring that hub. I especially like the interview with Harald Winkler and his Stirling motor. He is one of an awesome constructor! Next year your are hopefully doing an item about the guys from Velomo.eu, What Patrick & Steffenthey are doing to "lighten" trikes and developing new Quad-ways is very newsworthy. The bamboo recumbent was also a great item. That is one great lady, that made that bike! Thanks to all you guys at Laidback Bike Report again and keep up the Good Work! Cheers! Thanks for the amazing production! I never took a close look at trikes and recumbents. So as far as trikes what is the better weight distribution two or one wheel up front?

+Jeff Morgan thanks! I guess it depends on what you want out of weight distribution. In terms of traction the delta (2 wheels in back) might technically be better but the vast majority of trikes sold are tadpole (2 wheels in front) configuration. You really need to ride some different models and styles to see what works for you.

Thanks for making a well-shot, informative and interesting video, it's the first one of yours I've seen. It does make me want to take a ride over there next year on my bike and camp along the way - especially after seeing those guys who'd ridden from the Netherlands, etc to get there.

I wish that trike manufacturers would take into account standard (32.5") door width. The ICE trike is 33" wide and the only way to bring it thru a standard door way, is to turn it on it's side and carry it thru. When you have panniers on the back, that means you have to take everything off the trike to carry it. It is a pain. 32" is ADA compatible. Anyone who lives in a big city, must bring it in at night to avoid having it stolen. Please start thinking about where people live and build them to accommodate doors.

Is it possible to have a backpack designed with padded pockets that the Hailong packs can fit in.. These could be made of kevlar to protect them when they are off the bike..

Gary. Hailong battery packs (downtube shark packs). I ride a recumbent trike. There are times that I would like to carry extra packs for range. Backpack or more accurately, back of seat pack, made of kevlar to carry extra heavy items like these expensive hailong batteries would be ideal. Recumbent trikes/bikes are a challenge because the rider really cannot use a backpack like an upright rider. The pannier/bag/cooler market in these areas is really overlooked and untapped. I would also like to find a good (Yeti) pannier to keep things cold, with capacity to carry food/drink/medications. Ortlieb attempted a rack mounted cooler that looks like a carpeted box speaker. (the problem is: 1) it is an eye sore 2) it doesn't lock shut 3) you cannot put panniers on/off without removing the cooler/trunk. Good quality Cooler/Panniers would be great. And a way to carry extra battery packs is critical on a tour. But..all the options are lacking.

If that podbike is aloud on bicycle lanes in the Netherlands I to go back on the lanes myself. If scooter is banned from the bicycle lanes this thing surely is a danger on them. It's cool but not on the bicycle lanes.
