The Laidback Bike Report is about people. Bent riders ride interesting bikes, go to interesting places and have interesting stories. That's the basis of our monthly webcast. Sure, we'll talk about products and have tips and tricks for you but each month our show is built around an interview. We'll continue to get the personal side from folks adventure riding around the world. We will delve into the minds of industry leaders, shop owners, and event organizers who are hoping to attract your attention with their wares. We'll get them to turn their cameras around and show us their surroundings, facilities, or latest prototype. This is how we hope to make our show worthy of your precious time.

We do this broadcast live so that you can have your comments made and questions answered on the spot. This is an interactive endeavor and is not complete without audience participation. Please join us every month as we bring you our very best attempt at the Laidback Bike Report

That sucks that you got hassled by the cops so much and that people would call the cops on you. I've never called the cops on anyone. On my velos (Alpha 7 and Snoek) I put big lettering which says "NO MOTOR TRICYCLE 100% HUMAN POWERED" . And I asked a cop why he stopped me, and then I think he put out a bulletin so that all the cops knew it was legal, and I almost never got stopped since then. I've had two scary bicycle accidents, but both were on small regular bicycles and neither would have happened had I been in my velomobile. Velomobile seems safer.

I find hub motors great, unless it gets steep. Here a middle motor is more efficient and does not loose power so much.

Electric unicycle needs a bigger wattage motor to make it a safe validable vehicle with no cutouts because you overpowered it...BUT now the damn euc companies have gone waaay beyond that with new models that can now do 100 km/h.... I don't condone this, as they should only be riden no faster then 40 km/h...sadly, the crazy euc riders are doing 70-90 km/h on a regular basis...

i also have the cyclone trailer but did not like that its not in center behind the velomobile so i build my own tow bar. now the trailer is inline with the front wheels. went a week touring with it. its very handy but loaded to mutch gear. next time no trailer or not loading the same amount of gear

How is hand powered electrical in nature other than the "electricity" of bio-electric signals powering ones muscles?

Just briefly, first I recommend world wide everyone, to seriously consider setting up a local IRL social meetup group - this benefits all, so many these days with anti-social (as I call it) media suffers extreme isolation, loneliness and mental health issues (especially young, extreme examples exist). We need to break free from virtual and meetup in real life. But now to the bitter truth: created myself Cycling Activity Group Finland. I don't do PR here for this one, rather, I want to help others: simply copy-paste all content if you like, I don't care (as long as you use own local information), and setup your own local group ride community. So, it's unfortunately, definitely not, easy. Remember FB is considered a no-go for many these days, especially for new gen. But on the other hand, FB is a terrific easy and good reaching platform for social events. Problem is, we live in a phonezombie virtual online folk disease culture: many believe the groups are online groups where to chat. You need to underline, the group is IRL real life not online activity. The immense work behind sharing and spreading the group can be tough - just a warning. After you have PR shares on 100+ groups and sites you begin to feel exhausted. In many countries - like Finland - the social culture is different from USA and southern Europe; it can be extremely difficult to reach people. Some good ideas here like bike shops were mentioned. Youth centers, immigration groups, foreigner groups, health and wellbeing, family, local town or city groups...if you don't do PR for your group no one knows it exists. Very important is to make people understand, your group is not an extreme sweat-blood-sports group: this is the most common perspective on cycling groups and truth is most of them are (99%). You need to scream out it's not about extreme sports. Hopefully we could start off a world wide discussion here now and develop this together. It's easier said than done.

Why was a two wheeled recumbent unstable? It makes no sense to me, because it's like a normal upright bicycle but with a lower centre of gravity. Am I missing something here? I have an HP Velotechnik Street machine, and it sticks to the road at high speed whilst cornering. I found that the front tyre can become a bit twitchy over 55km/hr, so you have to firmly hold the handlebars - not stick out your leg!

On rides, let the riders know there will be stops to regroup which can be helpful for newbies. Then, when everyone is together, it's important to give them a few minutes to catch their breath- the waiting riders have had that time, the later arrivals may have been working hard to catch up!

This is my favourite design velomobile. I think some extra drag and weight is worth the ease of access, storage and stability. The impact that regen hub motors could have on rider comfort due to reduced overheating, better hill climbing and reduced wear on decent through regenerative braking. Grin in Canada have some very exciting news on this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ourirh_pOSs.html

PLEASE!! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!! STOP using the line “thanks for having me”, it is utterly demeaning, not to mention a very stupid master and servant type line, and VERY unLefty. do refrain from using it in future, you will be a better person for it. Remember! language is a virus.

I've been designing and building electric vehicles for 20 years. The ElectroVelo, my thumbnail image Was completed in 2011 and I still use it to this day. I have a range of 260 km pure electric, more if I pedal. The number one thing to consider when designing an electrical vehicle for the road is the law. In most places in North America 4 wheels is not allowed unless it's a mobility scooter. There must be pedals and that must be speed restricted. As for financing for production that's difficult. Most people in North America still consider anything that doesn't have a large energy footprint to be a toy. For those who want or need such transportation it's often beyond their ability to afford. Government programs are trash and in my opinion are for those builders, producing inferior products. All the best to the young woman trying to make a difference. My advice is design a really good vehicle for yourself that is easy to repair and upgrade. Use it all the time and provide a positive example for others. We are fully entrenched in car culture and that's not going to change anytime soon.
