Saturday 24th September while most of Victoria was focussed on the 'G' to see the outcome of the AFL Grand Final, the rest of Victoria was in Gippsland focussed on 'K' (3K's actually) - K100, K 183 & K 190, a triple headed run to Traralgon.
For a small group of us, bunched together on a bank high above the line near Moe, we had the honour of witnessing the art of steam driving at its best. Links on one side of the lead engine broke and fell to the ballast, and it was some time before the crews had made the locomotive safe to move. During that time a light drizzle descended on the scene, making the rails greasy.
Although I have edited minutes out of the sequence, the drama of the remaining two locos picking up the train with the added 104 tons of the lead loco is remarkable. Listen to the musical composition of the locos (loud) and witness these machines and their masters creating a true symphony of steam!
(I still don't know who won the Grand Final.)
