An uncle of mine was a door gunner on a Huey in ‘Nam and took a round from a PKM in the back while rescuing his best friend. His friend was finished off by that same burst from the PKM. Doctor said he would never walk again and he said, “To hell with that.” and now walks like a champ with just a cane and a limp. Strongest man I’ve ever known.

The game even includes only having 18 rounds in those 20 round mags because the guys would never fully pack the mags because the springs would get fucked and cause failure to feed problems.
@SmoocheeWallace
@SmoocheeWallace 3 года назад
what the fuck, I didnt know that was the reason! Thats so cool, not the mags jamming but the attention to detail.
@Patriotusa44
@Patriotusa44 2 года назад
I don't think that's entirely true. It really was because of trying to put in a full 20rds into a gun with the bolt closed, it would need more persuasion to get the mag to click into place. It is why modern 30 rounder mags are usually loaded with 28 rds. The Vietnam era 20 rd magazine was made for 20 rds. The designers aren't stupid. Why would they do pretty well with the design of the gun itself and then just half ass it on the magazine? Look up Small Arms Solutions and his video What Happened to the M16 in Vietnam. He says that exact thing.

Arma is one of the few games that is consistently played (In the MilSIm Units at least) by Prior service veterans. It is in a way a game to play when you feel like being back in the Army for a few hours without re-enlisting for years. Most milsim missions consist of walking for hours and talking about military service followed by 15 minutes of gun fire.

Yeah, the Vietnamese, especially Ho Chi Minh and his Generals were largely incredibly competent leaders. It's especially astounding when you consider that these leaders all learned their craft almost from scratch. They learned from text books and war diaries and humiliated the French first, and eventually the US as well. There was this pervasive belief in the US Armed Forces at the time, mostly among the top brass; that the US' Army could defeat any small nation through shear Economic Might alone. It makes sense to a degree, I mean that's what World War II taught Generals and Political Leaders in the West (Russia learned the blood price lesson). The issue of course is that at that point, the US Army had almost no real experience or frame of reference as a Nation fighting to defend their own borders. The closest the US got was the War of 1812, and perhaps technically the Civil War. The US was entering into a culturally very different nation. The terrain was not exactly suited to combined arms in the least, which significantly hindered the United State's capabilities. The situation facing the US Forces in Vietnam at the time was such that commanders felt they had little to no choice but to send Squads on Patrols into areas where NVA were suspected. Not to go in and clean them out, but to instead serve as bait to draw the NVA into the open. At that point the Patrol would call in artillery and / or air support to try and kill as many of the NVA as they could. In the long run this ruined morale, and ended up giving many soldiers a sense that their commanding officers considered them nothing more than Cannon Fodder. That's why you hear about Fragging happening so much during the Vietnam war. Nowadays, the top brass in the US Forces are a little bit wiser these days. - First we have the whole "Hearts and Minds" initiative. This, in part, includes actually educating soldiers about the culture they're about to get thrown into. The rest involves several programs and initiatives to provide food, medical care and other services to those affected by the war. Sure, this happened to an extent in Vietnam, but nowadays it's considered a far more integral part of any foreign Campaign. - Then there's generally knowing how to fight Insurgents far more effectively than previously. That's more or less what Vietnam was, at least in tactical style. Proper counter-insurgency tactics play a key role in modern conflicts, many of those lessons were learned in Vietnam.

My father was in the Vietnamese communist army, but he was too young to fight in the Vietnam war. He was a Laotian that happened to be living in Vietnam, and got into their special forces as a radio operator as part of a sapper team. My dad is fluent in Laotian, Vietnamese and French and that helped him a lot at the time. As a special unit, he told me they had freedom of choice to pick their own weapons and he chose the m1 carbine because of how heavy his radio was. He usually didn’t talk about his experience, but one night when he was drunk with his friends, he told me during the sino-Vietnamese war, they took heavy casualties. The outpost was in a remote mountainous area, and there was heavy rain. So they were unable to evacuate the bodies from their camp. He had to sleep near the dead bodies for a few days. He was wounded in the leg during a firefight and medically discharged. Of course he moved to the states back in the 80s. I guess that war messed him up and he hates communism.

You can also play this content with other mods and make it even more challenging and realistic. My group uses the ACE3 Medical system combined with KAT Medical, so when someone goes down you absolutely have to employ TCCC effectively if you even want a chance to get them back up. ACE3 adds many different types of wounds, anything from minor abrasions to large crush wounds, punctures, avulsions, bone fractures, lacerations, etc. KAT Medical also expands things further to include features like airway management. As a lead medic, you might regularly have 2-3 guys working on one patient applying tourniquets, splints, checking vitals, performing CPR, setting up IVs (saline, plasma, Blood - make sure it's the right type), checking for airway obstructions, applying hemostatic agents for clotting while packing wounds, then wrapping them up with elastic bandages, etc. The way we prefer to play: if you have a severe wound, you must be moved to a higher level of care to get a "full heal" before you're able to be reinserted back into the fight as a "reinforcement". And that depends on MEDEVAC / CASEVAC / transport availability. The challenge of managing a mass casualty event, compiling ACE and MIST reports, throwing together a 9-Line, directing LZ operations for extract, etc. just adds a level of game play that simply doesn't exist in any other game. Arma 3 can be played just about any way you want to play it.

Arma is a ton of fun when people take it juuust seriously enough. Some people go way too overboard with how serious they take the game and it can kill the fun, but keeping units organized is almost always a must. People that are super into role playing for this game tend to get mad at me when I'm intoxicated on a weekend and volunteer to be a squad leader or higher, though.

"no acogs, all they had was something taken off of a hunting rifle" Incorrect, Vietnam was actually the war that saw the first use of an early version of a red dot sight, it was a called the Armson OEG which while pretty uncommon for regular soldier use, would have definitely been used by spec op guys. Give it a Google.

Not needed, We have spoken to the guys. They almost never had anything extra on their rifles. They didn't hold up well in the jungle and weapons were damaged so frequently it was easier to use an AK. That sound also blended in with other gunfire sounds during a potential engagment.

The only problem with this mod is something that developers can't do sht about, that is the fact that players will use headsets to communicate. In RL, low-tech warfare in jungles have a challenge of it's own, that is to communicate. Jungles are very muffed but, yet, "silence-ish" enough to let any fart bein heard (and smelled) a few hundred yards away. One of focuses in SIGS course is to teach how to sound like the jungle and don't sound like anything else. Until the late 90 or early 2000's, personal radios were like alien-tech in South America (probably in Vietnam too), but even nowadays our recruits have to learn the old ways, because in jungle environment you can't rely even in modern equipment... so, still aim with the irons, learn to aways have an eye in your comrades hands/faces and don't let the jungle eat you. Thanx for this video! Cheers!

Guys, when it comes to content, you always deliver. To piggyback on your recent SCP react vid, if you want to see a game that blends a military FPS with paranormal elements, check out a series called F.E.A.R. It’s incredible.

my grandfather was usmc stationed in the An Hoa pronounced "An Wah" that village is actually in the game, sadly his combat base isnt in the game. but he was there as a machine gunner during the Tet Offensive. he said the same shit, you cant see the enemy most of the time (besides the tet when they ran 10ft up to him) he said you can smell them in the jungle, he also said the same thing, when you get ambushed you shit your pants, youre shaking, you lay down and just start shooting blindly, he says your not even looking, youre just shoving your face in the ground to get lower. they all smoked weed nobody gave a fuck. it was a free for all on what weapons you can take with you, hed take his m60, or a thompson, or 2 m2 carbines sawed off to be pistols. m79 grenade launchers, but he said most of the time the enemy was within the safety det range on the grenades so the 40mm would just go into the enemy, theyed run and blow up as soon as they got out of that range. for some reason im the only one he really told this shit too. he mostly just likes to talk about hookers and smoking weed when he was in vietnam tho. he also laughed about butt stocking little kids away because they would run up and steal shit out of your pockets, sometimes putting hand grenades in marines pockets. south koreans had a base near him outside the an hoa village, he said they were fucking brutal, they would waste civilians if one guy shot at them from the village, and the south koreans would cut off everyones head and put them on their chest which he took a lot of pictures off. and americans 100% put skulls on spikes outside their base, and dudes would have ear necklaces. vietnam seems like fucking hell on earth.
@nightlandz1291
@nightlandz1291 3 года назад
he also said out of his base alone they would be 300 american KIA a month. when he first got there he was scared shitless for a couple months, wondering wtf he got himself into, he says after awhile you lose that fear and give 0 fucks to point where if you get shot at most people dont even care to take cover or go prone, they just laugh and shoot back while the new guys were eating dirt. then the last month when youre about to leave youre scared shitless again. only to come back home to fucking liberals calling you baby killers. and "White Room" by Eric Clapton was their jam

Clarification: "S.O.G. Prairie Fire" is D.L.C. (downloadable content) for "Arma 3"; you need Arma 3 in order to play Prairie Fire; it is not a standalone game. A3 is a sandbox and it is highly modifiable. If you never use the first-person (you can use third-person or even a top-down) perspective and never fire a weapon, you can still have fun in Arma. There are mods that make wind and temperatures affect ballistics, add a relatively in-depth medical system, add turbulence and the possibility for air resistance to rip off wings, add the ability to drag bodies, or add vehicles and guns, etc.

What would happen with snorers in this situation? I mean, if you're sleeping getting ready for a mission in the middle of the jungle, surely snorers would compromise you? Some sound like an Apache helicopter taking off.

Glad to see yalls take on the game. Was an honor to meet you that night in the Zoom call Jason. Semper Fi brother. I was honored to be a part of this amazing team and got to lend my voice to the DLC. Was so glad to see the actual vets involved with the story and so many military vets involved in the development. Rob, Sav, Sam, myself, and many others served in their respective nations militaries and lent their love and passion to this project. It is something to see vets making games based on their experiences instead of all the same old "Hollywood" gameplay that we have been fed over the years. Keep up the great work guys, loving it.

I love your videos but you should maybe invest into personnel microphone that you stick onto your shirt so the quality of audio gets a little bit better. Edit: im dumb just after writing this comment i noticed you allready have that but i do feel either the settings of these microphones are not good or the microphone itself it has a weird effect on it so that you can hear you sre sitting in a big room or something
