I remember well the time of the death of King George VI. With friends I was at the Busselton Western Australia outdoor Picture Gardens (night). In those days we all stood for the National Anthem (God Save The King) before the movies commenced. Soon after the movie started it stopped with a hand printed message projected on the screen "The King is dead, long live the Queen". We were all stunned and found it all difficult to believe. As a mark of respect the movie was not continued. The girl who was to later become my wife was to play in a tennis match the next day and they were unsure whether they should play or not. Those were the days!

I was hoping to read about someone who may still be living and may had of remembered the death of King George VI and changeover of the monarch and the crown to the then Princess Elizabeth and has since lived through her entire reign, now being passed on to the next generation. What a blessing to have witnessed three monarchs. God bless the royals.

I didn't know that the National Anthem was played before films. I only knew that it was played at the end of the cinema's daily programme.

He was a week away from death, but it came too soon. They did not expect him to pass that quickly.

He had a horrifically awful case of lung cancer. He looked like death on wheels.

Yes, the King still walking around and briskly up and down the stairs definitely did not look like a man on his deathbed

Considering that it was the DOCTORS who told him to smoke to help with his stutter, you can't really be surprised when they got that wrong too.

He died from a pulmonary thrombosis in his sleep. He had lung cancer and it’s commonly accepted that he died from that, but he didn’t.

It’s unbelievable we saw our beautiful Queen in black and white and now in a totally different 4K era, we watched her funeral. I’m only in my 40s but the pace of change is incredible.

"It is good to see His Majesty looking so well." My grandmother watched this same footage and remarked to my then-ten year old dad, "He hasn't got long to go." So sadly she was proved right.

Only standing there looking at her taking off, he looks like death. I've only seen still photography of him at that time and he looks like a man who didn't have long to live. Maybe you haven't seen those photographs.

He had lung cancer (unknown to him, which was policy in those days) but he died from a coronary thrombosis, a blood clot that moved to his heart, probably soon after he fell asleep the night he died. He was found the following morning by his valet. However, I think the bright, chirpy voice on this is a bit of an attempt to distract people from the King looking very unwell. I think we all know how it works, if someone tells people enough someone looks very well, sooner or later they do somehow, at least in peoples minds. It’s not a deliberate attempt to deceive, it’s more an attempt to distract.

Winston Churchill wrote a card which was attached to his wreath in tribute to The King on his sad and premature demise. It read “For Valour” . How correct and true ….. Indeed a very brave and courageous man whom suffered dreadfully but never failed in his duty and commitment . How things have so changed , how The Monarchy changed under the influence of Louis Mountbatten and a Queen of sustained naivety , the results today being so obvious and clear.

And a few days later , this goodly King was dead. At the time , Chips Channon said amongst other things and I paraphrase - what an absolutely unnecessary premature death . I think Channon felt that he should NOT have been spending so much time outdoors in the bitter cold , engaging in strenuous activity which is largely what happened. Whether that caused the huge and fatal embolism , who can know ? RIP KG VI .

Churchill had more trouble climbing those stairs than the King, but he still lived more than 10 years with cigar in mouth at all times. Some people are just lucky.
