I recently started to nature journal and have become interested in more closely examining what I see. I'm about as far away from being a math wiz as one can possibly be. 😝 Your video was so cleanly and clearly explained; I actually got it. I even found the 'ln' function on my phone's calculator and actually got the same numbers. Thank you so much for this video. With this how are things counted in real world? For instance if there is a patch of strawberries that all originate from the runners of a single plant is that a single individual or is each rooted node counted as an individual? Or with colony forming trees and shrubs are each stem counted even though they may originate from the same individual? What is a typical sample area used? Is it say 100x100 ft or an acre or the whole parcel of land whatever size it is? How are bounds of differing ecosystems determined? Like if there is an acre parcel of land but a large part is forested and another is meadow/prairie and another section is straight lawn. And then what if you want to compare the interior parts of those ecosystems with the edges where they meet where presumably biodiversity would be highest. I’m interested in trying to determine the index for some of the patches of forest and lawn around my area and compare invaded and non invaded communities amongst other things so if any of these questions can be answered or directed to a source article or such it would be greatly appreciated.
