Reminds of my job as a flight attendant: I had many opportunities to stay in the cockpit for landing. My best memories: Hong Kong and Quito. Great job, fantastic memories.
Perfect video work!! No shaking, or excessive talking, no stupid music track. Just totally beautiful scenery and awesome views!! Loved it! Gonna share it, a lot!!
Agreed, my favorite takeoff and landing videos let the scenery be the star of the show and the ambient aircraft noise lets me feel like I’m there. No commentary or music needed. Thanks for the kind words and great feedback!
l You're lucky! I passed through during that fucking SE Asia war for all of an hour and fell in love with the place. It was 85 degrees in early February, totally an alien concept to this Northern Easterner, the air was warm and fragrant and the view was unbeliveably beautiful. I always hoped to return .
I was stationed at Hickam AFB for 3 years and in all my time I don't ever recall seeing landings in that direction. Very rare approach. I used to go to this neat little area right on the perimeter fence next to 8L. It was about 100 yards from the hold point on the runway. It also had a clear line of sight all the way down where planes would turn into final approach. The great thing about it was that it was on base so nobody was ever there to bother me or get in the way. I loved it there and sure do miss it.
@@Adamweber518 it was. If you ever go back look for a little patch with dirt roads off the left side of 8L as you land. It is an area used for field training on base that was rarely used. Nice and tucked away.
I have had the pleasure of landing on this same runway but in the opposite direction 08R and 08L many times during my flying career with the USAF. Many many beautiful memories of Honolulu and Waikiki.
I love any landing in HNL. I've done this westward approach twice and love the views of Waikiki and Honolulu. The pilot has to do a sudden twist of the aircraft right before landing to do a final line up. It's a fun approach.
Very unusual approach. The prevailing trade winds mean you usually come in from the west (Kapolei) side and land that way. I was raised in Hawaii and have been back and forth to the mainland a million times and I may have taken this approach that is in the video once or twice
Man oh Man,I want to come back to my ole home in EwaBeach, whiched I lived back in 67 to 70 and My Dad was in the navy and we were very lucky to lived there.Good job on this Video and you shoulded waited a little more aftered the annocement of arriving in Honolulu.
On Feb 11th. 2017 at 4.27 pm..the moment of your landing...my father died in Honolulu. His birthday is tomorrow. I dont think your post is a coincidence nor that I saw it today. You have allowed me to see in pictures the location of his entering a world more real than this one. thank you.
@@Adamweber518 It just popped up on the day before his birthday during hard times. I take it as an omen..a good sign. He loved Hawaii...and would not want me to avoid it. Aloha brother
For some reason the algorithm is recommending this video from 2017 to a lot of people lately. The comments are fun to see! Several have noted they’re still looking for the “spectacular” part of the landing. While I agree that was probably hyperbole I do think it’s a pretty cool approach. I still haven’t landed this direction since this day in many trips back. The spectacle was referring to the approach and not the actual touchdown but I probably could have worded it better. Anyway, thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the unique views of Waikiki and downtown Honolulu!
For me, I am more the type that wonders when the last time the volcanic crater seen at the shore at 0:10 erupted. Same for the one that can be seen popping out of the middle of the city like at 01:50. Probably thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years ago. Certainly not recent.
It’s definitely much less common. It was the first and only time I’ve ever landed this way. I don’t normally video landings and all I had was an iPhone but it was special enough that I felt it was worth sharing!
Landing on the reef runway from that direction, allowing different view of Honolulu is extremely rare...Some would call it, more unusual than spectacular.
I can’t disagree with you there. Usually we’re just passing through Honolulu on the way to another island. But the North side of Oahu, away from the city, is pretty great too.
I feel silly telling you this but airplanes frequently travel across time zones, hence the use of the term "local time". What I'd like to know is why gate agents always say "last and final boarding call". Isn't "last" redundant when you say "final"?
@@sean2015 Passengers should know it is local time. People could be travelling from many different origins. What do those passengers expect, that the flight attendant will go to each seat and tell them the time in their homeland? Also no, last is not redundant when you say "last and final boarding call" cuz they said last before final, so it is the word final that may be redundant in that context.
That's one beautiful place always wanted to live there...but from what I've been told...Honolulu/L.A/NewYork/Boston/and Chicago are cities that only the "ELITE" and "VERY" upper crust...lol,can afford to live there comfortably. 🙁😕 Meaning to maintain a home/apt/or condo is just to expensive for the average, not bad but decent income earner to afford.
I had to move from Hi recently because of the cost of living there. Rent prices were just getting ridiculous and the price of food and other basic needs was unbelievable. I repaired automobiles for a living and mechanics don't get paid very much there. I miss Hawaii very badly being born a raised there and sometimes I feel like going back even if it means going homeless. But not really a good ideal. Hawaii has changed so much in the past few decades but it is still very beautiful.
@@bryanthompson4323 I know you enjoyed it.A place I never been..but just no I would love it.I think "ALL" major American cities are just too over priced.I understand what you're saying. In most cities I was told that to live comfortably you should be at least making over 66,000 a year
$5 gallon of gas or milk be damned lol. It's a beautiful State (biasly speaking as a Native Hawaiian😉), but it's cost of living is horrendous. I transferred from UHManoa to LSU and saved literally $20k in student fees and living expenses. My parents, divorced, were both Anesthesiologists that even with their double income, had some tough times, especially when 5/7 of us started or were in High School. Lol.
Been to Honolulu several times as well as a couple of the islands. Indeed a great place to visit as well as retire. BUT have to be honest… just could not except the hateful attitude of some of the Chinese and Asian people there. It was so bad so will never visit again.
its rare to land to the west on the coral runway and also get low level views of Waikiki and downtown.. those are usually done on departure given the winds 95% of the time.
