I got the spectra S1... and recently got handed down a motif luna and i LOOOOOOVE it. Spectra is just not as strong especially for an exclusively pumper. The luna is like an upgraded version of the spectra. Highly recommend.
Thank you for the video! My sister-in-law really likes her Spectra but I was leaning toward the Motif after reading reviews (and I like the design more, so that’s a bonus) so this comparison between the two was super helpful.
Great video! I had a spectra s2 last time, but my new insurance doesn't cover it without an upgrade fee, but it covers the Motif Luna, so I decided to go with that. So excited to use it!

I got both and I like the spectra. The Motif I feel don't get me empty. I literally got done pump with the Motif and went straight to the spectra and got another oz.
I had an spectra S2 with my first kid and currently am expecting with #2, I am debating between these two pumps. I like that they are both portable but am really undecided with which one to go with. This video is great in comparing these two products so thank you very much!

I keep seeing a lot of comments on how Moms preferred the Motif over the Spectra.... did any Moms regret it? I'm stuck between these 2 & would like an honest opinion from someone who's tried both... I'm a FTM & would really appreciate the feedback 😅

I have a Spectra S2 but just ordered the new Motif Luna last night and I’m super excited! With a closed system, how often do you recommend washing the tubing?
You shouldn’t need to wash the tubing at all actually :) it shouldn’t come in contact with any milk. Let me know how you like the Luna compared to the Spectra!
Just an FYI for the mmHg the stronger pump is actually the one with the lower number (counterintuitive for sure). So the Spectra actually has a more powerful pump at 260 compared to 280 mmHg - if I’m remembering the numbers correctly. Not by much, it’s pretty nominal honestly.

New Little Life by Allison Not to toot my own horn, but being a PhD chemist I work with vacuumed distillations often, where mmHg refers to the amount of pressure/atmospheres in a system. 0 mmHg would refer to the perfect vacuum, and 500 mmHg is less of a vacuum, also interchange vacuum for suction in reference to the power. Please see the article linked here for further reference. It’s easy to misinterpret as it’s not commonly used and seems very counterintuitive. Ok, I had a feeling we might both be right, just talking about two different things. I asked an expert (admittedly, this is not my area of expertise) and here’s what they said. Hopefully you understand it a bit better than I do! “Technically you’re both correct, but you’re talking about two different things. She is talking about absolute pressure which is measured from a perfect vacuum (0 PSIA) in which a lower value indicates a more perfect vacuum. This value can never go below zero since zero is the perfect vacuum. For chemistry purposes this would be more important since most physical equations to calculate reaction pressures, ideal gas laws, etc. use absolute pressure in their formulas. However, you’re talking about differential pressure which is not measured from the perfect vacuum but from a fixed reference pressure, which inherently probably isn’t known or published my pump manufactures. Instead they publish the pressure differential which is the change in pressure cause by the pump. Since these pumps are providing suction the differential would be negative, for example going from 15 psi (~ atmospheric pressure) to 14 psi would give a pressure differential of -1 psi, and converting that into mmHg would give you a value of ~ -50 mmHg. The negative sign is dropped since it’s simply representative of a differential and the manufactures are talking about suction so the sign is understood. Therefore a higher differential pressure represents a higher force being applied over the suction area and therefore probably a more effective pump. Higher pressure wouldn’t always be better in this case since the human body can be harmed by high pressure differentials but I’m sure the pumps are designed with that in mind. Eventually you’d have too much suction and cause damage.”

Can you explain the suction a little more on these two? Do they both have a “suck, suck, suck, release” type suction or is it the “in, out, in, out” style suction?
Do you have any thoughts between the Motif and the BabyBuddha? I've heard such great things about both but am a bit anxious about the Buddha being too strong... but then I read people love the Buddha due to the strength. I used S1 with my son 3 years ago. I also have the Willow this time around to try so I don't need the portability as I did last time. I would love your thoughts!
I haven’t tried the baby Buddha yet! Maybe I’ll break that one out this week :) I’ve also heard great things about it. If you already have a willow though, I’d go for the Luna I think If you’re getting a second pump. It’s such a work horse pump and a good contrast with the willow. If you ever wanted to do like a big pumping session and seriously empty, the Luna would be what I’d use. Then willow for portability and on the go. That’s my thought :)
Can I use medela flanges, bottles, parts for the portable motif luna? I have a spectra s2 from last time and I used medela parts for better fit. I need a 27 flange. Thanks, great video!
My Luna pump suction doesn't seem to be working even on the highest setting. It's only 4 months old and only used it the first two months. Any ideas of what could be wrong?
