I find that if i havent pumped in 3+ hours that i get a third let down around 28min which then has me going til 35min to get it all out. However this third letdown never happens if i pump less than 3 hours apart. Thought id add this in for anyone who like is an under supplier (i was one until i figured out my pumping and that i needed 4 liters of water a day instead of 3).

Is that pumping 15 to 30 minutes each side? This will be my first time pumping next month and learning.

You’re typically pumping both sides at the same time :)

Can clogged milk ducts effect how much output my 4 week-old and pump gets?? Because lately I’ll pump for about 15-20 minutes, and the flow will slowdown or stop, so I take everything off. Then I hand express to make sure it’s all out and still get quite a bit… which isn’t a lot, like less than an ounce but more than a few drops. And even though baby gets little hiccups and has swallows while nursing, he still seems hungry even after 30-45 minutes. I’m pretty sure I’m clogged, more on the right than the left, bc usually my left breast gets significantly more, and when I hand express I mostly dribble rather than spray. Then I do feel little lumps in my breasts. One morning my right breast even felt painful. I don’t know why my baby isn’t fully emptying my breasts when he seems so hungry, maybe we need more practice with latching?? I’ll say sometimes it takes a handful of tries to get him latched especially after bottle feeding a few times. So annoying I don’t even mind the clogs as much I just wish my baby was getting everything he needs so I didn’t feel the need to pump or go to formula as much as I do ): Especially because I know I’m making milk! So frustrating. And no I’ve never had an issue with oversupply. I’ve never pumped more than 3 or 4 ounces in one breast and even that has only happened like once in a day, NOT after nursing.

Btw I know was able to spray when hand expressing but lately it’s been more of a dribble. Haqaa and Epsom salt + warm compress kinda help but I don’t think it’s fully unclogging.

It does sound like there’s something not quite right here. I recommend you meet with a lactation consultant to get a full picture of what’s going on. If you end up needing pumping help, let me know.

Hi! Im 4m PP. Already doing a combination feeding( BF + Formula). Have started pumping 2 days back to increase supply and slowly wean off formula. He feeds only on one breast usually, im trying to build a supply in the other breast where he doesnt feed. Have been pumping 9 sessions per day for the past 2 days, the average output of the sessions has bren only 5 ml. Is that normal? When can i see a significant change. How long does iy take?😅😅

5mls per session is a bit of a red flag. Something isn’t quite right. You should work with a professional to get an evaluation I think!

I have a hard time getting all of the milk out from the milk ducts under neath, what helps with that? I typically have to HEAVY massage even after a power pump.

Sounds like something may not be quite right with your pumping routine. You can force milk out with heavy compression, but that’s a sign the pumping isn’t doing what it should. That can also cause tissue damage and make it harder long term. I help extensively with pumping support in my coaching program for working moms if that’s fitting for you, let me know!

I’m only 23w FTM, but would really like to get your feedback on Phillips Avent Breast pumps. I’ve watched most of your videos, but haven’t seen anything about this brand.

I had that problem of having raw nipples and everything touching them hurting. I realised that it was because my nipples were rubbing the flange after a few minutes of pumping, because my nipples end up filling all the space after a while, regardless of the flange size. I fixed it by covering them with a tiny drop of oil, and never had raw nipples again :)

I'm going to test this. No matter how much I took the size of them, and which flanges I am using, my nipples always seems to rubb after some time. It's like they have their normal size, and then just became the size of the flanges after 5 min no matter what.

Yeah that was exactly my case, I think it's called elastic nipples. I hope the tip helps you too!

I saw a lactation consultant the first two weeks postpartum and she told me I have an oversupply. Now baby is 10 weeks and I mostly breast feed, but when I pump I just pump once or twice at night while baby is sleeping because I get full and engorged. I pump 5-8 minutes and get 4-7 oz and then I stop because my breasts feel comfortable after that and I don’t want to fully empty and worsen my oversupply. So I haven’t pumped 15-20 min since she was 2 weeks old. Is that ok? I go back to work soon in a few weeks too. I was hoping my supply will regulate soon by 12 weeks so I don’t feel so engorged, but my breasts fill up so fast.

I still don’t know if I’m pumping incorrectly but it’s all a new learning experience for me. No natter what I still believe I can’t store or produce much and could only pump 1oz. all together within those 25 minutes.

It depends on so many things, how far postpartum you are, if you’re also feeding at the breast, the time since last expression, your milk storage capacity, your current milk supply etc 😅 let me know if I can help!

@@NewLittleLife I’m just going on 3 months postpartum, now even having the little guy refuse the breast sometimes. Combo feeding is what we’re doing since I can’t give him enough! I’ve tried everything since I don’t want to give up just yet🥲
