With Sorcery, it's pretty much disappeared at our local store as they pulled dedicated game nights once their box stock and singles were gone. There is now no way for them to make income from the player base, so they are better off catering to players who will bring them a consistent income stream. They may bring back dedicated nights when AL comes out, but if its the same as Beta, it will be a flash in the pan and then phased out after a couple of month for Lorcana, FaB and Magic.
Glad you connected the 90s comic crash and the parallels to the CCG markets today. Sounds like Warlord is keeping their oars in the water for the long term. Those comic and Elf Quest videos were excellent.
Back in the day I used to think Adarymy was the most brain dead of Warlords, but I guess this video proves otherwise. Deck knowledge definitely helps. Still good to see some Warlord being played. Was a fun game. Keen to see how it goes with the new version.
Another way of having something perpetually in stock while being collectible is to have base level "game pieces" always available, but having collectible variants for those who want to customize their decks also produced at a much rarer level. That would allow those who want collectability to get it, while allowing players easy access to the game.
Whoa, right at about 1:00:00, is that basically (MIT) Forrester's classic "Beer distribution game"? People ordering demanding more than they need so that they can get the lesser amount that they really want?
Retailers are speculating but they are also creating value for the eventual consumer by providing opportunities for chance encounters with new products, expert advice, and (ideally) a community of players. They also used to provide access to product back in the days when direct sales were logistically difficult. Speculators that provide no other value to the consumer are a problem specifically because they're extracting value by making the experience worse for the consumer. This feels awful. However, (and I don't know if I buy it, but) there is an argument that they might be providing value to the publisher/artist by allowing them to disconnect the negative customer sentiment that comes from charging the price the market will bear from the source of the product. If Taylor Swift charged the same prices as the scalpers, fans might pay but lose respect for her. Letting the scalpers find the "real" price puts all of the hate on the scalpers and lets TS market on the back of how fast tickets sold out.
I chose not to buy the Skeleton Crew shirt and regretted it. Now I need a "Team Covenant: Ride at Midnight" shirt. I wouldn't make the same mistake twice.

This comes down to print runs vs demand. Why is Warlords focused on Draft packs and not getting the cards into as many hands as possible? The Booster pack draft format is fun but is it worth the MSRP Markup? I can't afford to collect the game and would like to play but buying booster is something I don't want. For a TCG like Warlords shouldn't there be a Living Game Format? A Kickstarter LCG set with 3 of each card with a different border color would be better/cheaper for players, Right? I mean the Draft format cards with a different border would be worth collecting more while the LCG border would be worth less? Letting everyone play in tournament with any card would help the player base and than the Market.
Warlord was an LCG for a short time if I recall correctly. When Phoenix Interactive took it over from AEG there were no more random boosters. It died. 1v1 LCG just don't last in any meaningful way. I wish they did but the lack of a 2ndary market and virtually no financial incentive for a store to put time and energy into it means they just can't exist when you expect to go to retail. The only way they seem to limp along now is as kickstarter or subscription services to a small but loyal fanbase.
