Hi everyone! Everyone has been asking how Wyatt has been since we've brought London home from the hospital. And really, he has been great!! Wyatt is just the sweetest big brother to London.
So updates:
-Back to pre-pregnancy weight but still weak AF
-I chose the Mirena IUD, cause ummmm AMENorrhea (no periods)
-Wyatt = best big brother
-London is growing chunkier everyday
-Wyatt's speech is significantly improved even before we were able to get scheduled for speech therapy

I'm at almost 3 years with my Mirena and about 16 months, with no periods at all. Even the periods I did have post-insertion were barely there in comparison my natural state. Plus, my hormone-related migraines completely resolved. I am overjoyed with the "side effects". It sucks that I'll have to take it out in order to get pregnant in the future...lol

I have been super busy and have missed a lot on RU-vid. I can tell a HUGE difference in Wyatt’s speech. Seriously, he has improved. It happens so quickly. You guys are doing the right thing. I noticed you asking him specifically what he wanted when he said he wanted “more”. I noticed Stan say “I asked you a question.” You guys are encouraging communication and using his words to express himself and to communicate to you. Great job. Baby London is precious. So happy for you.

When I first got my Mirena I literally bleed 24/7 for 9 months. I considered getting it removed. Then all of a sudden that stopped. Now my periods are virtually non existent. Im glad I held out a bit longer!!

My son is also two years old and he has a speech delay. He hasn’t had his hearing tested yet but he has his first evaluation with a speech therapist in about a week. He has had words in the past like car, hello and up but they have completely disappeared. It seems like he can’t figure out how to place his mouth to make certain sounds, for instance he has never purposely said mama, and can’t produce the mm sound. So when I ask him what a cow says his response is Ooooo instead of moo, and for cat he says eeeow instead of meow. He only has around ten understandable words. His comprehension of words is fantastic, he correctly identifies most of the letters of the alphabet and loves counting and can count backwards from ten..... but the severity of his speech delay and his losing words that he use to be able to say is really scary.

Londan and Wyatt are so cute!! I love watching your videos. I got my IUD in about 3months ago and are having horrible side effects.....Weight Gain, Acne ( never had acne even when I was a teenager). My obgyn thinks I should wait 3 months more but I hate it😭😭😭

The hormones level out in about 6 months that’s why we say try to wait. Did you have similar effect with other birth control methods?

Miranda Yellowhorse I started residency when Wyatt was 8 weeks old. Looking back, it seems so crazy and I can’t believe I actually pulled it off on so little sleep. But you’ll be amazed at what you’re capable of.

How do you feel about having 7 weeks off? I'm in the UK so we are entitled to up to a year, but i'm hesitant to take that much time out of training

I'm glad someone said this. I've had the Mirena IUD since 2015 and I swear to beans I've gained almost 70 lbs in that time.

@@drjennale I can't believe you actually read this! Thank you!! I have an appt to see a new doctor on the 20th of this month, a woman. I will be talking to her about this and my concerns. I also have PCOS which is the main reason I'm on birth control in the 1st place.

Many people experience heaver period bleeding with the copper IUD. My goal is to have no periods!

@@drjennale yes I have copper IUD and had heavy period in the beginning with mine but it has worn off tremendously. I'm going too look into the one you have. I have been experiencing a ton of UTI while on my cooper IUD I have had it almost 2yrs. Have appointment coming up soon with OB to discuss just wondered is it common?!?

Hi Jenny, may I ask did you go ahead and have the mirena? If so, how was the insertion experience? Did you have a coil or IUD in the past prior to conceiving? Or which contraceptives did you previously try? I heard it is more challenging to insert an IUD in nulliparous women. A personal opinion from a female gynaecologist I spoke to was not to go for intrauterine contraception prior to having children as it can somehow disturb the stability of the uterine lining. Any thoughts? Thank you so much.

I have only been on oral contraceptive pills prior to getting the IUD. I only experienced mild cramping. I have inserted IUDs in many nulliparous women and all of them tolerated the procedure really well. The copper IUD works by disturbing the uterine lining and preventing implantation. But your uterine line is contenting building and shedding. Should not affect further pregnancy

When I had my Mirena put in I was at the end of my period. The dr recommended that as the cervix is open a bit. It was easy and painless

I’m currently on the mirena, I’ve only had about 2 months going on 3. I had the nexplanon prior. But so far, I haven’t had a cycle at all. I haven’t really experienced any weight gain, I’m currently in the process of losing weight. It’s pretty hard to lose weight I don’t think the mirena has an effect on me maintaining the weight. But other than that I feel okay and normal on the mirena! I did here prior to getting the iud people will always try to tell you the horror stories lol

Hi Jenny, I have a question.. So I am about 7 months postpartum with my third child and my third c-section...(my last baby was 14 years ago) so its been awhile..this was our suprise baby!!..our oldest is headed off to college next week! Anyway..im 38 years old no complications with any of my pregnancies..I am RG negative so I receive Rhogram shot...but after this last pregnancy they diagnosed me with RH sensitization.. What risks are associated with future pregnancies? When is it safe to try and conceive again? My clock is ticking..but we want to give little man a sibling since the older two will be leaving the nest in a very near future.

Dear Dr jenny, this is my ultimate break from studying for exam at med school.. As a future doctor I'd like to ask how do you manage to juggle your job and personal life? Oh and how long is maternity leave in the US? I'd love to hear. Thank you, and your children are sooooooo sweet!!!!!!!

In the US, by law you are guaranteed 3 months of unpaid maternity leave. In residency, I am only allowed to take vacation and sick days (3 weeks), any additional weeks will be unpaid have to be made up at the end of residency. I choose to take an additional month to make that 7 weeks. Stan and I make a good team. He helps me balance work and family

Only 2! But who knows, I might get amnesia and forget how horrible I felt during pregnancy and try one for another one. Highly doubt it. I’m just getting the mirena because I don’t want periods! Or else Stan would get a vasectomy 😅

How do you know the difference between if he will grow out of it or to get therapy? My son has a speech impediment too and I’m thinking about getting him therapy but my mom thinks he’ll grow out of it

Wyatt was evaluated and they said that he was below average on his speech development. It was good we started him in therapy so he can catch up with others. And even though he qualified for speech therapy, it took months for us to even get him an appointment with a therapist! I personally don’t think there is any harm in getting your son evaluated.

No, I was low risk so did not require additional screening after delivery

Amanda Cosnett yes I did have GDM with this pregnancy also. I am at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes in the futures (recommend screening every 3 years) but currently have no other risk factors. Hemoglobin A1c beginning of pregnancy was 4.3

@@drjennale so you had GD that was diet controlled but they didn't monitor baby's blood sugar after birth? And you didn't have to do weekly biophysical profiles starting at 36 weeks? That's what they're making me do and my numbers are fantastic and only diet-controlled.

Amanda Cosnett yes I was diet controlled. They did monitor baby’s blood glucose after birth. Normal x3 then discontinued. Additional monitoring even with weekly NST is not indicated if you’re diet controlled GDM according to ACOG guidelines (American college of obstetrics and gynecology). Addition monitoring is required if you are on medication like metformin or insulin.

6 years with Paraguard and it's the only BC I can stand to be on. Unfortunately no periods is not a side effects with Paraguard. lol

Whats good for baby constepation from a doctors prespective?

Depends on how old the baby is. If they’re breast fed or on formula. Exclusive breastfed babies can go up to 10-14 days without a poop. As long as they’re gaining weight then it’s not to worry about. If it really is constipation. I recommend bicycling baby’s legs or massage baby tummy. I recommend against rectal stimulation because it can make it worse!

Common side effects are similar to other birth control like weight gain, headache, breast tenderness, acne. Vaginal irritation since it’s inserted.

Do you have any tips for avoiding infection of an IUD? I had Mirena for about 3 years but took it out because I had 24/7 UTI symptoms that wouldn't go away with antibiotics. Having it taken out got rid of the symptoms immediately and permanently... But now I'm 25 weeks pregnant.

Yes!!! I have mine for almost 2yrs and I have gotton yeast infections and UTI as well. 😩 I have appointment coming with my OB to talk about it.

@@alexandralawson9578 the doctor tried to convince me to not take mine out and said that some people just get the symptoms their whole lives but it just felt right to me to do it... Don't let them talk you out of it if you've tried everything else.

And the uti symptoms are unreal and so bothersome at times. I'm not planning on another child for at least a yr and was not wanting to remove it until then but with the way I feel I'm leaning to wanting it out! 😩🙆‍♀️🤷‍♀️

And completely honestly, we did not try to avoid this pregnancy haha, so I'm sure you'll be fine with avoiding it until you're ready! I'm just not totally sure what could be the cause of the infection to know if an IUD would be a good choice for me after this pregnancy.

With regards to Bacterial vaginosis that results due to mirena iud.. What do you suggest to do? I know No douching because it makes it worse. Any suggestions to trying to fixing it?

BV is likely due to pH imbalance and not the Mirena IUD. Your doctor can prescribe a medication. Or you can eat things that help create a more acidic vaginal pH like apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut, kimchi, probiotic

I have the one that goes in the arm and am Interested in getting it out and getting a non hormonal birth control is the copper IUD the only one ? I think I should add that I am a breast feeding mom my baby is turning 11 months

Yes the copper IUD (besides sterilization) is a non hormonal birth control method. Any birth control that is progesterone only like the Nexplanon (one in your arm), Mirena and Kyleena IUD, and Depo shots doesn’t affect milk supply. I took oral contraceptive pills and still breastfed Wyatt until 14 months. I did notice a slight dip in supply when I first started. But still safe to take.

No, women in other countries who have babies and breastfeed consistently don’t have periods as compared to those in the US without birth control
