Why does the "man" with a mustache react like a women, and the beautiful lady on the left react like a man who's been through years of war? She's awesome....
Fun Fact: Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have both revealed in interviews that they both had crush on each other during the making of this film. However they have never acted on it due to timing, one or the other would always be in a relationship. To this day they remain the closest of friends. I wish they do more movies in the future.
I cried the 1st time I watched that scene, because his face says it all... and his fear of what is going to happen to his partner was present even in his death. Then the pure anger and grief of Jack later.
Oh wow you are lucky I wish I got to live in an era with such nice cars yeah I'm like half of those cars in this movie aren't even from the 90s, but cars you see in the 90s are so hot. Like the 80s cars.
Keanu has never been sexier than he is in this film. There's just something about the way he carries himself as this character, and the buzz cut and that tan, he's just......good lord that's a handsome man.
yes!... He is a handsome man in general but I always refer to him in this movie as my "husband keanu" LOL...I was in elementary school when this came out and had hearts in my eyes then lol
The confidence, DEFINITELY the confidence. He fits playing a cop so well, it shows courage and capability and makes you feel like he would take a bullet for you
What a perfect action movie. Exciting, funny, so smartly written, hasn't aged at all. And Keanu and Bullock have amazing chemistry. It stands alongside Die Hard as one of the most entertaining films ever.
While watching the confused reaction to the UHF camera feed is the first time I have seen its age. It was such a non-digital world at the time. Doesn't bother me but WOW reactions make me feel old 😂
Except the bus jump scene which 30 years later is still unforgiveable man... I was 5yo when I first saw the movie in 1995 and even I knew that physics doesn't work that way 😂
“Oh that’s cool they have the hostages there (at the medal ceremony) nice touch” Me, who has seen this movie a dozen times: Oh yeah, I have definitely noticed that before 😏
@@jkhoover And totally understand. I'd put Stallone as a better actor, but if strictly talking "action"...I like T1, T2, Predator, Commando, etc over the Stallone Rocky's/Rambo's/etc.
In the original draft Harry was the man who put the bomb on the bus. He was forced to retire after Jack shot him in the leg, and Denis Hopper's character died in the opening. The script was changed after Jeff Daniels was cast as Harry. They believed that Jeff Daniels was "too likeable" and audiences wouldn't believe him as a bad guy.
@clevelandcbi There are nods to it. "I got a medal, too, Jack. I got medal, then a pink slip and a "Sorry about your hand." Only in Harry's case it would've been."Sorry about your leg."
Keanu Reeves in Parenthood is brilliant too...I think that and Bill and Ted were my introduction to his acting. Speed is one of my comfort films. I love the out of this world chemistry, and then the bond between Jack and Harry. Ahhhh it's just so good.
36:50 The interesting thing is that they REALLY JUMPED this bus. Obviously a stunt rig without passengers. What they used CG on was that there was actually no gap in the road in the jump shots. They added the gap digitally.
I still love the fact that they accidentally did the jump for real, IE they cleared the 50 foot distance the gap was supposed to have and they weren't even trying to.
There were plans were Jeff Daniels' character didn't die and he would serve as the antagonist or something which I don't know if it would've worked. I will say his death scene in this film as the camera pans to his face realizing it's over just gut wrenching.
in the first draft, Harry was going to be the bomber and Dennis Hopper's character was only going to be in the opening before being killed off Harry was to retire after being shot in the leg by jack and after the first bus explodes jack thinks that the bomber was back before later on being revealed to be Harry
"The Los Angeles Metro Rail is an urban rail transit system serving Los Angeles County, California in the United States. It consists of six lines: four light rail lines (the A, C, E and K lines) and two rapid transit (known locally as a subway) lines (the B and D lines), serving a total of 101 stations."
The Director and Keanu were the only ones who knew that the Baby Stroller coming in front of the Bus was going to happen.... Sandra was kept in the dark about it that is why Sandra gave that raw/real Shocked and shook-up Reaction.
Yes! Can't believe you haven't already seen this classic. Such a great action flick. Really hope you follow up young Sandy in her 1995 thriller THE NET - she is beyond adorable in it!
@@LarissaFay 100% one of my all time Sandy B films. Also love Murder by Numbers - though it has a bit of a yuck factor. Love her character in it though.
Really? I thought they really don't vibe much. Two different personality types that don't mesh. Which is a natural thing and not wrong or bad. Just saying it didn't work for me.
When Sandy B and Keanu were doing the promotion circuit before the movie was released, Sandy B was on Ellen and Ellen asked her if She and Keanu dated. She replied that they had not but that she had a major crush on him throughout the filming. Keanu was on another talk show a few days later and the host of that talk show played back that part of Sandy B's interview for Keanu to see and then asked Keanu if he knew that Sandy B had been crushing on him. His reply was that he had no idea until just now but that he had been crushing on Sandy B as well during the filming. Unfortunately, neither one of them realized that and they were both too professional to let those feelings possibly risk the chemistry between them that the movie really required.
No, Ellen did not even have her show yet. They said that on Ellen many years AFTER the movie was released. It was in the 2000's when they were on Ellen and said that.
@@brendag5263 Yes it was. I never said it was on Ellen before the movie was released. I said they were on the promotional circuit. I have no idea what Sandy B was promoting but if I remember correctly, Keanu was promoting "John Wick 3".
@@brendag5263 My mistake. I knew it was way after the movie was released. It was late at night and I probably wasn't thinking about what I was typing. I knew I had seen the interview on Ellen and I was correct about that so give me a break. My comment was correct, the timeframe was a bit off but that does not take away from the fact that what they said is correct.
The 105 freeway in LA was still under construction during the production of the film, so they were able to use it to their advantage, pretty great timing lol
other films that Sandra Bullock did in the 90s that you guys should check out: Love Potion #9 (1994); The Net (1990) Sandra Bullock has been one of my favorite actresses since I was a kid and Speed contributed to that. thanks for the reaction, Roxy and Andrew! 😄
I remember everyone laughed at the concept of SPEED when the trailer came out, but EVERYONE was blown away by how not only thrilling, and fun it was. The fact it had a solid plot with characters (even the secondary ones) we ended up caring for. The chemistry between Keanu and Sandra was totally legit that it helped make it real or even possible.
I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called ''The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down.
Not sure when she did The Net but I think it was around this time. Must watch. Love that film, Sandy B is great in it. About Speed 2, it's not one of the worst movies its just that the choice of the vehicle didn't work out, plus the absence of Keanu so we didn't get his and Sandy B's chemistry.
Couldn't stop the train because when bad guy shot the conductor it damaged the panel. The big red button Keanu hit and it sparked was the embrake button but didn't work that whybhe speeded it up to jump the track
If you guys haven't already seen it, another suggestion for a great action movie with an amazing cast is the 2004 movie "Cellular", which stars Chris Evans, Jason Statham, William H. Macy, and Kim Basinger.
I think Sandy did 'A Time To Kill' around this time too. Her role was small compared to the leads but she got a lot of praise for that performance. If you havent seen some of her lesser known films you gotta check out: While You Were Sleeping 28 Days (Personally I think this is the best performance of her career) Devine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood and Hope Floats
I love Dennis Hopper everywhere between Easy Rider to My Science Project the best movie he was in was blue velvet oh God you got to see blue velvet guys you want to see Dennis Hopper it his best yeah💜💜💜
For about 3-4 years of my life around the year 2001, this is the ONLY movie I owned lol ... I can't even imagine counting the number of times I've seen this movie. And I can still watch it over and over.
Fun fact: John Mctiernan was considered to direct this but turned it down as he thought it was too much like his movie Die Hard. He would then recommend his DP on Die Hard, Jan de Bont to direct, and the rest is history.
I love that you guys appreciate just how awesome this action movie really is. It's on the short list of "classics" such as Die Hard, The Rock, and Speed for sure!
There were at least two missions in GTA games inspired by this movie. Literal bus in the very first game and a limo drive in GTA Vice City. Also, reportedly, Keanu Reeves made the jump from car into bus by himself, no stunts.
29:13 First off, IF that was a mom, it is her fault for not looking. Second, watch Jack's instinct to take the wheel when a civilian, Annie, puts her hands up.
This is not just one of my favorite Keanu Reeves movies, but also one of my favorite action movies, and also one of my all time favorite movies. I first watched this when I was 11 and just yeah it's been my favorite since
One of my favorite movies of all time. I saw this in the theater with my cousin and when they were going to have to jump the gap on the freeway we both were holding each other’s hands so tight and believing they were going to make it. It was movie magic because in real life they would have went right over the edge. 😂 the birds you see in the gap were added in post and when the bus lands the gap they land on a complete road the gap is digitally added.
I grew up with this movie. My VHS worn out because I watched so much as a kid. Here and there as an adult. Getting kind of teary eyed seeing it on this channel. Thank you.
I love this pairing. Although Tara is my favorite. But Roxy and Flash always give great reactions and amazing humor. Thanks for the video guys. Love the channel.
@@roxystriar You and Andrew are a very close second. I love watching your takes and reviews. Your videos are as good as almond M&Ms. Keep up the fantastic work.
Trivia- originally Alan Ruck was supposed to be killed getting off the bus. Audiences didn't react well to that and it changed. On the plane- as you noted, clearly marked as a freight plane and it was being towed. No one would be onboard, and we see the towing vehicle intact in the shot. They're telegraphing "no one onboard or killed" pretty hard. $35 million to film ($75 million today) made $350 million.
I was 12 when this movie came out. It was one of those surprise great iconic movies. Still holds well to this day. Watching it with you guys as i make and eat breakfast was exciting, and yet you guys reminded me of all the nostalgia of living in the moment of the release of this movie. My living situation, me thinking i was bad ass on my bike or roller blades having the action theme song playing in my mind. Every commentary you guys had of this movie's greatness made my eyes swell up. Im a sucker for great things being made or accomplished and that stands the test of time and handed down to generations that will have the same acknowledgement and respect. Mix that with pop culture and nostalgia and i turn to spaghetti.
Love this movie!!! Pretty sure Sandra and Keanu only did Speed and The Lake House. They had such great chemistry I wish they had done more movies together.
I hope you'll react to Speed 2 Cruise Control. This movie gets a lot of flak (deservedly), but still worth a watch once, especially if you like ocean and boats.
I can't believe Dennis Hopper actually pulled that trigger. If the gun had the bullet, Keanu Reeves would have been dead in first ten minutes of the movie.
Los Angeles has a light-rail system that is at street level or elevated for most of the lines, but once those lines that are going to Union Station in Downtown L.A. get within about a mile of downtown, it goes underground for a few stops, then it goes back to street level once it gets about a mile out of Downtown. Great reaction, great classic movie!
the main problem with speed 2 is no Keanu and nobody liked Jason Patrick trying to replace him, but it does have one of the biggest most expensive stunts of all time!
Definitely, what you said about River Phoenix. He (Keanu) would usually spend time with River constantly but went away to film this and he died during filming and Sandra has said that Keanu stayed professional but you could see something was lost, that he was inconsolable... The fact that he still turned in this performance is amazing and I despise anyone who says he's a bad actor. A few times he's been given a role he didn't fit as well but that was less on him, more on casting or writing (or in the case of Dracula, whomever taught Winona the British accent but skipped on Keanu lol)
