Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

It would be a good video yes, however the sound barrier creates a threshold of sorts. Once you pass it controllability and handing goes down duratically

They have done something similar to this, the issue was the "window of opportunity" for them to shoot each other was non-existent, like in a half frame they had passed each other without being able to aim. [it was in the dogfight series if i'm correct.]

Okay, first off: MVP Scrapman, not for the build, not for the planning or the driving or some of those jaw dropping shots. For sportsmanship. Straight up, how do we keep and make this fun for everyone. More engines? Vehicle changes? Whatever it takes to keep things feeling like it's fun and people can enjoy themselves. World needs more of this. Secondly, for pure explosions back in the test map, but with hover craft and quantum rudders.

How about adding a small timer to the logic. If you go below the speed limit a timer starts adding up. The timer does not reset once you go above the limit again. Once the timer hits a total of 5 seconds you explode. This gives a little buffer and extra tension

This is probably the best (as in easiest) way to provide wiggle room. I was trying to think of something using the arithmetic block, but that only being able to compute an input by a constant instead of two inputs rules out using a series of speed sensors in all directions and vector math (pythagorean theorem) to find the true speed. I think I would rather see a set delay rather than a cumulative one if they were to try something like this on Race Island (especially the new Grand Prix circuit).

​@@WhitzWolf92 A delay would be a good consistency buffer, but cumulativity would be an interesting tension factor. I think a combination of both would be most fun and consistent.

You really need to add a buffer between the activation speed and the explosion speed, otherwise any tiny fluctuation at the activation speed can instakill you

Also, with two extra speed sensors (one for front-back, left-right, up-down), and a little bit of pythagoras (find the hypotenuse between the left-right speed sensor, and the hypotenuse between that and the up-down sensor) you can get a measurement of your total speed, so drifting/tilting in the air won't unfairly kill you

​@@MrKoalabeere yeah I don't think you can take the root of something. But I guess you could make the required speed the quadratic of the actual speed required. It would take a ton of logic blocks for not that much gains though. So not really worth it. I honestly think that only counting forward velocity makes the challenge more interesting anyway.

Hmm... *Video idea:* Tank battle but you can only use crate dispensers as cannons. You can add pistons to increase their velocity and make them more destructive. Rules: -Only one cannon. -200 blocks max. -20 powercores (cannon included)

with the new collision physics crate dispensers do no damage unfortunately, no matter how fast they go. They do push pretty hard, but that's it.

@@ledocteur7701 good point. Before this update, i had a big tank with crate dispensers and pistons, and it ANNIHLATED every vehicle it faced. I tried it now, and it's pathetic. Basically no damage. ;(

Two ideas: Reverse speed: Go too fast and you explode! (This one's simple but it could be fun.) Rounds-like speed: If you win, you increase your speed threshold, but your opponents do not.

Would be fun with boats. But once you are below minimum speed you have 3 seconds to get back above before the explosion. On the high seas that could make for some tense moments.

I want to see this again, but with a minimum weight and set part count for the initial designs that decreases each round as the minimum speed goes up. You have to design your vehicle to slim down gracefully while losing mass each round that speed goes up, making turning more precarious.

🚨 VIDEO IDEA 🚨 You could put the speed sensor on a mechanism of two servos, one turning in the vertical direction and the second one attached to it in the horizontal one. Behind it, still attached to the mechanism, add 4 speed sensors, 2 for vertical, and 2 for horizontal speed measurement, and set them all to detect any speed at all. If any speed is detected, the servos and with them the one speed sensor are positioned in a way that the sensors don't detect any speed. That way, the speed sensor responsible for the explosion is detecting airspeed rather than "forward only" speed, allowing for drifts and jumps.

Big fan of this one. Should give the explosives a small delay to avoid the small bumps that kept happening. Something like a 1-2 second “fuse.”

smoke indicator is cool, but i think it's better for it to show that you are close to critical speed, so you can see that you are about to explode

GG. You should set the activation speed 5mph higher than the trigger speed. If they're both the same, there are times when the bomb is activated and the speed drops slightly, causing the car to explode. By having a 5mph buffer, this is almost impossible to happen.

This is definitely fun to watch. Something that might work better to reduce the escalating insanity factor (which is, I admit, a lot of fun to watch) would be to go up in 5mph increments instead of 10... but it might not be necessary now that everyone knows what kinds of vehicles do and don't work very well with this challenge.

What if you did a fuel system with planes? So, you can only use thrust for certain amounts of time before you can only glide. I think that'd be neat.

I'd love to see a normal race with crate cannons, maybe beachballs instead since crates push quite aggressively. They can only be front facing, so it's a risk-reward of trying to block the person in front without blocking your own path.

It could be cool to see you come back to this idea but add a lives system with the accumulator some how where falling below the speed threshold adds 1 to it then you can set how many lives you guys get each round

This one was really fun. I think it would be amusing to have the vehicles be bigger, say like 150 blocks. Bigger targets, weirder designs. Whatever point requirements to get to similar speeds here.

Y’all should have a challenge of who can make a rotating launcher that can make a glider or bullet (with seat) fly the farthest, preferably a vertical spinner. A block limit would also stop them from just making it longer

Race idea: How about a *Speed*-style race? Build regular cars with no weapons or sabotage. Do a few laps to set an average speed for all cars. Set up sensors based on that average. If a car slows down too much (e.g., spins out or gets nudged), it gets eliminated. Use a course with turns and hills, and the last car remaining after the laps wins.

Should definitely try this but with Tron vehicles. So not only do you have to watch out for walls blocking you, but also your own speed so you're not caught having to make a tight turn.

You should do another one part 2 with position based weapons, 1st place gets the weakest, 2nd moderate, 3rd gets a good gun, last place gets a blue shell

The random explosions when you start are because even a slight turn as you hit the speed limit will take you back under the limit in forwards speed

Video Idea - can be done with land air sea and space. players make their vehicle afterwards either but choice or a dice roll , you have to either mesh the front or back of what you made with someone else's creation (basically chopping things in half) and make it functional then you battle it out.

i'd be interested to see a dogfight or tank battle with the crate launchers. the new impact damage should make it so the crates arent a one shot anymore, at least against ground vehicles

Idea: large planes vs missiles that are purely kinetic. Meaning - no explosives, and no power cores in the front of the missile, so it's just impact damage

Crate gun battleships, increasing speed and weather conditions as the game progress, final on the ocean map. 300 blocks, 40 cores, no other restrictions.

Opposite of this, plane battle where your engines cut out if your speed is above a certain threshold, like maybe 100. I think that would cause a lot of weird maneuvering, since you are only limiting speed given by the engine, but you could still go way faster by climbing and then diving to gather speed.

Hey scrap man I think to help with the cars exploding while turning because the sensor only detects one direction would be something like a tank cannon stabilizer where you can turn the tank independently from the cannon while the cannon and still aim at its target maybe it can sense the change in direction and keep the relative speed consistent and reduce just randomly exploding because the sensor sees something different than what the game is showing

Hi Scrapman (one with planes next?) Please can you do an Isomometra race. An Isomometra is a hover jet that only has downward thrusters and no vertical stabilisers. You can find mine on the Workshop. It would be nice to see 1. A race around an island 2. A speed limited race with cannons and blasters 3. Combat with emp's only

You could fix the problem with exploding when your car is drifting by adding more speed blocks on more axis (ex. left and right) and connect all of them to an OR logic block. It wont be perfect because it's still not calculating your exact speed but it's still better than using only one sensor.

What could be done is to add 2 more speed sensors pointing to the sides, so there would be 3 speed sensors connected to a summing block, resulting in the real speed of the player

i recomend an alteration to the rules that could help make better vehicles? exclude the power core and part usage of challenge required parts to give more room for parts by allowing those couple more slots and also the couple more power cores that get used up by those challenge specific requirements

How would you build the arena in Trailmakers? I guess you can use a mod to remove the block limit but even there I'm not sure it would work very well...

@@theofficialbeep A problem you'll definitely get is that we can't damage only a single block, especially with the new damage update. Your weapon should only make huge holes on your arena. I think it would work a lot better with a previous version of the game.
