This channel is about painting converting and kitbashing miniatures for your warhammer & d&d games, Age of sigmar, warhammer 40k games and Necromunda in a Grimdark Grim Dark Style most of the time. I will paint more Space Marines, maybe even Space Wolves, Sisters of Battle, Stormcast Eternals, Eldar Aeldari, Age of Sigmar armies too cities of sigmar, more chaos space marines, painting scale models or miniature busts in the future. I won't lie, I was skeptical until the final wash and clean up at the end. Was like magic how every step finally just solidified and formed into the final product. I love the paint job! Been looking for something simple to get away from my sparkly clean space marines. Awesome step by step

Every time you streak and grime a model I physically shake my head without even thinking, has a cool effect but just seems so wrong.

Ok, the oil wash is what really did it for me. I had not thought of doing the two different washes, it really makes a huge difference! It really gives it some nice gradients, textures, and finishes, nice job!

Thank you for this tutorial! I tried using just Dark Angels Contrast and found it to be much too dark. The addition of using Vallejo's Green Ink is a great idea.

Hey mate, just wanted to tell you that I was absolutely stunned by your overgrown Necrons and since I started getting into the hobby with Necs about a year ago I decided to adapt your paint scheme. It has been super fun and got me to experiment a lot more with kitbashing and different stuff to put on the models, so thank you for that! Just so everyone knows if you are brushing the dark angels green on you will need 2 coats! To get that level of darkness over the white

So this is a minor adjustment, but if you apply the streaking grime and then immediately get a brushfull of spirits you can wick the grime off the raised areas in a single step, same with the oil wash, and get the same result without waiting for anything to dry or having to speed up and slow down twice.

Yeah but it gives a different look, you can use grime thinned as a pin wash too, its super versatile!

Not sure why but when I tried to wipe the grime away, it would also strip the paint away

This is why I add varnish. I would let your paint and varnish layer dry overnight before using grime. You may have been a bit too rough too? I just dab the grime with the cotton stick, don't apply too much pressure. Hope that helps. For those where it's come off...if its in spots you could attempt to save it by adding chipping effects?

This is one of my favourite tutorials! Definitely going to give it a whirl for my green wing. Also, I know it’s not an airbrush tutorial, but how do you like yours? I’m looking at buying an airbrush myself and it was one of the ones I had thought of. What can you say about it?

Its great! Airbrushing is a massive level up to the painting side of the hobby, makes paint jobs smoother and quicker. The iwata ones come with warranty too so if it breaks it should be covered :) glad you like the tutorial

Hi pal just found your channel and its really inspired me to do space marines. ive got 4 zenithal primed ready to try blood angels, ultra marines, dark angels and black templars. Its a big thing as i haven't done space marines in 25 years and didnt want to get back into them when i started painting during lockdown. Gridmark is the way for me to get into them. I'm not 100% sure but I wanna say doing the oil wash reactivates and further removes the streaking grime from the previous step does it not? I would think you have to do a varnish in between those two steps to keep your grime work in tact? I've never done both of those washes together so I'm genuinely curious.

The grime darkens the entire model and adds a dusty effect. The oil is more of a recess/pin wash. I do slap it on but it runs into the recesses. Once cleaned up there is a definite appearance of the two colours and effects.

I subscribed after the "blibbidi blidi - bop!" decal thing. Although - it looks like your matte varnish went frosty/cloudy? Luckily the oil step seems to have remedied that so the end result is pretty great!

Yeah the frosting is forgiving with this technique. Unfortunately it was a tad cold when I did it! Can't tell afterwards though :)

Did you drop any type of medium in your airbrush for the ink such as Flow improver? I haven’t had a chance to experiment with Inks yet, but I know contrast paints can act like them, depending on which one you chose. Do you think instead of using the green ink, the new green contrast paint called Karandras Green could be subbed out instead of the ink? It looks like a close match to the green ink, I have to see it side-by-side just to make sure though.

I didnt use any medium or anything, just fresh out of the pot. You don't have to use the same paints as me, the method should still work no matter what colours you choose. In the other space marine videos I did I didnt use Inks, just Contrasts. If in doubt you could always do a test model

Superb finish on this, can I ask what product youre using for the zenithal, I've never tried the technique until now and just wondering if its specifically a primer? A standard white acrylic paint etc. Thanks, love the video

Yeah the zenithal is just white paint. Molotow White is what I use

Glad you liked it. The Vallejo stuff should work the same. Careful with Inks as using spirits can remove the ink. Varnish is a must

@@SlayerMiniatures It did work, but I did not like the finish color so I added a green wash, this time the color was spot on, so nice, but had trouble with the xpress reactivating, I'm just doing the first part, black, zenithal, green, zenithal and dry brush and green I will change the last step and test with green/dark green tint and a final wash of green wash or black wash.

Looks really good. Disclaimer:I don't paint, so I know nothing, but here's a question anyway. By the time you've done the white drybrush, is any of the green contrast layer still showing through? It's hard to tell from the video image. If that first layer of green is lost, could the layering process be rationalised? Thanks and regards

Thank you, glad you liked the look. In answer to your question after the white drybrush the green is still showing and then when adding the green ink it blends into the dark green. Without the dark green base it would be light green to black...it wouldn't look right.

Hello a question if you might. When you use the white spirit, I assume you have dubbed the cotton bud into it? Do you use much of it or like just touch it? How do you avoid the white spirit not damaging the paintjob? Thanks!

Hi christos, I use dry and wet cotton buds. It doesn't really matter how much you have in the bud. I spray the model with a varnish after all the base layers...which should be shown in the video. The varnish protects the paint from the spirit.

Like I said in the video it would be about 30 mins. If I did a whole army it would be more efficient so quicker per model in time.

Nope. Completely different. Games Workshop paint is all acrylic, water based paint. Oil Paint works completely differently

ya know what would be helpful, but no one ever does -- weigh the mineral spirits and oil paint -- saying "about that much" doesn't really mean much. Using a kitchen scale so you could say it's 2:1 or whatever would be A+++
