The late 1980s are marked by the return of Mercedes-Benz to the racetracks: The star is initially worn by the Group C racing cars. Towards the 1989 season, the Sauber-Mercedes C9 was given a silver livery, clearly identifying them as Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows. The new racing cars take eight victories in nine races in 1989 alone!
