Daniel, thanks, this helps a lot. Like many photo concepts, slowmo seems backwards in that slowmo comes from high FPS, not low FPS, like aperture high numbers let in less light, etc, etc. Really appreciate your teaching approach on every topic.

Hey Daniel! I would suggest that it can also be valuable to teach people about filming at the correct shutter speed/shutter angles before even starting work on the edit. The reason why you should always aim to keep your shutter angle at 180 degrees or 1/48 if you're filming at 24fps (or 1/60 if filming at 30fps etc.) is so that you can achieve a natural amount of cinematic motion blur. If you set the shutter angle too small, it can make the video look too crisp and choppy (eg. 90 degrees = 1/96 if you're filming at 24fps which is wrong) and it can be headache inducing the smaller that shutter angle becomes. The part where it can really catch you out is when you're filming in slow motion. If filming at 120fps you don't want your shutter to be at 1/48 even if your final project deliverable is at 24fps. You will need to film at 1/240 or in other words a 180 degree shutter so that the slow motion footage doesn't have too much or too little blur when retiming to 24fps. A good rule of thumb is to multiply the framerate by 2x and use that as the shutter speed, like so: 1/(framerate x 2). There are certain exceptions to this rule especially when going with certain aesthetic looks, but that is for more advanced cases and would also include techniques such as variable speed ramping or eliminating light strobing caused by powerline frequencies.

Daniel, I have different clips filmed 24fps in different moments with the same camera when playing a motion picture with realtime music. When I try to bring them together In a 23.967 fps clip, it requires me to change speed from 23.25 up to 24.44fps of some of them to fit properly along with the motion picture. What may be happening?

@Daniel_Batal
@Daniel_Batal 3 месяца назад
By ‘Timeline Settings’ do you mean Project Settings? If so, it depends. If you match your project frame rate to your footage (which I highly recommend), the projects settings won’t change anything. Now, if you film at 60 frames per second and then change your project settings to 24 frames per second, yes. You’ll be telling the software to chop your footage into a smaller frame rate than it was filmed at and that can impact how slowing down the footage might appear upon export.

Yes... but there are several RU-vidrs selling their videos that using optical flow, their 24fps videos look wonderful in slow motion, a true miracle, a sensational thing... And at least for now that has never been and is not true... 24 will always be 24, 30 will always be 30, 60 will always be 60, 120 will always be 120 and so on... And miracles will always be with God! Each one has its limits and rates for Speed Up and Slow Down... Do these options even help more?... yes, they help but it's not the miracle that many RU-vidrs are selling out there...
