In episode 26 of FGP Prep Book, we develop a love-hate relationship with a very special, Speed Yellow, 996 Carrera 4S, which puts up a bit of a fight during its comprehensive mechanical refresh.
This is my yellow C4S and I asked Luke to get it back to 'factory fresh' as this isn't just my weekend toy but a car I intend to own forever. Luke and Ollie did an amazing job and I couldn't have been happier with the result, it was certainly worth every penny and was ultimately great value for the car I got back. I live around 5-6 hours away from FGP and there are a lot of decent Porsche specialist's a lot closer to me but it just goes to show the trust I have in the guys. Also, the communication over the 4 or so months the car was with Luke was second to none and I was kept updated at every step which is refreshing to say the least. Top guys and highly recommended!!!!
Perfect social media combo of education, entertainment and promotion of FGP, a case study you guys should lecture! My 996 C4S will be booked in to you later this year for a tickle. 👍🏻They are stunning cars. You’re doing a great job of rehabilitation
Cheers to the owner for doing an antiretroviral refresh on the 996. I did something very similar to my 996.2 AeroKit. While the price to do this can get a bit staggering, in the end it’s all worth it!
Nice ya chaps I myself have a 03 C4S Iris Blue w/ gray interior with the red S on the rear which sets it off It was fun watching you hit the corners and watch you buddy face smile. Around Bend Oregon out!
Great work and video. Big fan of the all the quirks in the video too - gives a good feel of all the behind the scenes banter and open culture of the shop.
Another great video Luke. Interesting, informative and entertaining. It just cements the reason that my car comes to you and will always come to you even though we are over 3 hours apart at Porsche speed!!
I’ve watched many a RU-vid vid on the 996, this is the absolute best one I’ve seen. Absolute cracking job on a stunning C4s. Thumbs down brigade must be jealous Ferrari owners 🤪
Guys I have been following you for nearly a year. I just landed in Spain from Australia 3 days ago . I’m looking for a 996 or 997 and I’m going to bring it straight to you (when the covid restrictions allows ) for a complete service like you did on this fellas. I would be mad not to . You know your stuff and it’s been a learning lesson for me. Excellent and watch out for a booking from Dr Tony . Cheers .
Exquisite piece of work and a fine example of true affinity with the heart of the Porsche marque. If I ever get my third Porsche 911 I can’t think of anyone else I would want to work on it although I’m 200 miles away. Thank you and good luck for the future🙂
Impressive stuff. Having been to various different dealers and specialists since taking mine on in 2007 it would be fascinated to see how she got on with FGP. :-)
Not that professional in my opinion. Chatting rubbish, let's go pick up some girls and sniff my gym armpits. Didn't look like a test drive to me, more of a 'look at us driving someone else's car for RU-vid likes'.
@@MrDemontrigger fair comment. Personally I found the work done to be excellent the video very interesting and confidence inspiring. The banter just shows personality, which i don’t feel detracts from their service.
@@MrDemontrigger Hi MrDemontrigger. I'm sorry if some of the comments made in the video offended you. We are not actors, and are certainly not playing up to the camera "for likes". We make these videos simply to show people our work, and like to have fun while we're making them. The moment we stop having a laugh in the videos will be the moment we stop enjoying our work - Which is something I hope will never happen. Thank you for watching.
Nice job on a beautiful C4S. Love how you also painted the front spoiler and side rockers. Often thought about this for my Polar Silver C4S. Would have liked to heard your thoughts on that decision.
Awesome vehicle… great job and very entertaining video. Wish I could find a shop with this kind of care and customer attention in the US. Keep it up guys!
When I tuned into the video, I thought a pair of rich kids bought a 911 with Daddy's money, now they are gonna spend more of Daddy's money to mod it but I was wrong. Fair play to you guys you putting the hard-work wish you a lot of success for the future. Next time the Boxster needs something I'll head over to you guys...
Another brilliant vid (watched them all) and great insight. I emailed FGP a month or so back re getting some work and upgrades on my 996 C4S but didn’t hear back. A shame. Booked in with another specialist in Herts... Keep them coming.
This very car was reviewed by JayEmm On Cars. Very positively, with one exception, the MO30 suspension, JayEmm found too stiff for use anywhere other than very smooth roads.
Now that was a good video Luke! It's like you and Ollie are best mates. Paul is so lucky he did not go with the Olins. I just saw Esysman do a video about them. He has them on a 911 and was advised to park it and not drive it even to the shop. They supposedly do separate at the top mount and of course crash the car. Hope to see another video like this soon. Cheers!
Hi Werner, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We actually discovered the fault with the Ohlins when in contact with them regarding supply of the parts. Hopefully they rectify the issue soon and we can do a video featuring the product and what we make of them!
just watching this video just loving what you Boys have done. I am in Sydney and have a 98 3.4 Carrera Manual ... I was considering what to do with the suspension and you have sold the M030 very well ... no need for Coilovers, it would appear. I have the GT3 steering wheel, and the GT3 series 1 split rims ... so I think M030 it is. I note you used genuine Brakes (or Zimmerman) and the pads are Textar, so they work a treat as well. I have the Gundo hack, which I feel is similar to the yellow car. I all, you've given me a lot of inspiration for my car, in a very comprehensive and entertaining way. Thank you !!! Now, where do I get a FGP t-Shirt, to wear in Sydney, Australia??
Great vid boys. Spec now near identical to mine. You probably know the relay that controls the PSE puts it on quiet mode between 25 and 45 kph. Meets some Euro noise laws it seems. There is a hack for the relay that truly leaves it open when “open” selected. It’s a 5 min job. So you may offer that to customers ….
Thanks David. If you want to disable the quiet mode between 25-45 (which is MPH) it is easiest to simply disconnect the vacuum lines from the vacuum units.
That means you can’t have quiet mode at all. This way you get true quiet and true rowdy. Mine sounds very similar to lovely yellow C4S. Anyway. Enjoyed video
Great but its always question of money. The guy who own the car got lot of bucks, see the private plate which cost fortune, so he need result I have 911 but can not afford to replace half of the vehicle. Good job gents!
Are Öhlins worth it for strictly road use? The M030 fitted is too stiff and the car needs a setup with greater compliance to deal with dodgy road surfaces.
great informative video guys lo ts of food for thought would be interested if you could or would recomend place to get brake callipers refurbed and PSE exhaust re-welded. Regards Gary
Great vid Luke and nice to see the amount of work Paul had done. In regards to the GT3 short shift kit, was it a big improvement? I was toying with a 997 shifter so would be good to here your view please pal. Could you post the part number up please? Ta 👍🏼
I've fitted this on both 996's I've owned. Best option out there. You want the factory 997.2 GT2 & 3RS fitment part: 997.424.010.91, mine has AS00 written after it.. pretty sure that's just batch information
@@friendsgreenporsche5234 Hi, I'm sure I saw in the video that it had Kuhmo on, no doubt you changed them out. Michelin are my favourite. I have pzero on my 996 atm, but will change to ps4 or cup sports next. Keep up the good work!!
Interesting with all of the money spent on this lovely machine the customer is happy to have different tyres on the front end which I wouldn’t be happy with on a 2WD let alone a 4WD (happy to be corrected if I’m wrong but they have different tread patterns)
The system is made up of Porsche "PSE" back boxes, which we refurbished, with Top Gear stainless manifolds and standard catalytic converters. Thanks for watching!
Hello Luke. The pandemic has had far reaching effects. I recently had my rear shocks replaced. The Bilstein B4 were nowhere to be found in the States. Huh? Yeah, none. I opted for the B6 of which 2 were found. 🤬 WTF? Just wanted to share that. Also. Being Porsche, they must have been aware of the short comings of those components. No disrespect to them but, come on man. I’ve owned only Porsche for the past 15 years. 5 different models, and dare I say, there is a common thread amongst them.... everything you just covered. Having said that, I love my Porsche❤️. Ya in ya out? Take good care.
Oh yes I forgot to ask you why you removed the spacers? I’ve had a full suspension overhaul and thought the spacers would give an even better stance. The guys who did it and the geo advised not to put spacers on. Be interested in your views 🤔

I got stainless manifolds for my 997 from jdm Honda parts in the Us….came in at £140 for the pair delivered!!!….I honestly thought to good to be true but four years on they still going strong and quality and fitment were spot on.Didn’t even have to pay import tax.
Luke, those old discs weren’t that bad? But I guess if you are refurbing wheels & callipers (they looked the nuts BTW) it makes sense!! Good work anyway
Hi Craig. The old discs weren't too "clever"! There's something oh so attractive about a set of new discs peering through freshly refurbished alloys. The refurbished callipers were the cherries on top!
A great video of a really nicely prepared car, full marks to Luke and the crew. Just one thing though.......use of the "F" word is a bit of a no-no, it's not necessary and detracts from the otherwise excellent commentary.
Hi Mike. They were Top Gear manifolds. To be honest, the different brands of stainless manifold don’t vary in sound too much. They all give some added “rasp” over factory units, though.
@@friendsgreenporsche5234 Thank you for responding, Although my 2003 is a California car and no real rust issues, the fear of snapping exhaust manifold bolts while removing the exhaust scares the shit out of me. Does it help if the engine is warmed up before trying to remove the bolts or is just luck of the draw either way?
@@friendsgreenporsche5234 Thanks for replying n that’s ok m8 as completely understand 😎 Just doing me homework on refurb costs that’s all or to spend the extra n go for something like the newer version 997.2 uve just sold in the mid £30k’s? Lovin ur videos tho m8 n excellent job showing the punters what ur exactly doing and looking n ur garage costs they seem very reasonable 👍
